We currently have a new vacancy for: Assessor Motor Vehicle (Ellesmere Port) Salary range: 23,747-27,472 per annum The opportunity has arisen for an Assessor in Motor Vehicle. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years recent experience, a vocational qualification to at least level 3 or above, A1 & PTTLS are desirable but not essential. You must have an understanding of the needs of the industry or sector, have good communication skills and be willing to undertake training. An enthusiasm for helping others acquire skills and fulfil their potential is essential. This role will involve travel to workplaces to undertake assessments. 2 ASSESSOR MOTOR VEHICLE Job Description Area : Business Development and Apprenticeships. Salary : S6 Hours of Work (Full-time/Parttime) : Full Time 37 hours per week (flexible work pattern may include evenings and weekends) Line Manager : Assistant Director, Apprenticeship & Skills Responsibility for : Training and assessment of apprentices up to Level 3, mainly in the workplace. : Supporting apprentices progress through assessment in the workplace and curriculum delivery. : Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons in line with college policies. Main Purpose of Job: The role will include coaching, mentoring and assessment. The post holder will be responsible for liaison with managers, other support staff, lecturers, assessor-coaches, commercial clients, employers and apprentices. The role will contribute to the achievement of objectives and targets as outlined in the College Institutional Plan and agreements with employers. The post holder will operate in and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement with the aim of providing a dynamic, professional, flexible, effective and efficient service. The post holder is expected to inspire, motivate and raise apprentices aspirations through their passion for the sector that they operate within. This includes modelling and encouraging mutual respect, displaying a deep understanding of equality and diversity, with and between apprentices, colleagues and employers. There is an expectation that the post holder values the importance of maths, English and ICT skills in the apprentice s future economic and social well-being and fully supports the development of these skills within the apprentice s career pathway. This includes providing innovative and engaging training and assessment of apprentices up to level 3, supporting apprentice progress through assessment in the workplace and curriculum delivery in order to ensure that the provision: Meets the needs of apprentices and employers Is of the highest possible quality in terms of apprentice outcomes and apprentice/employer satisfaction Is effective, efficient and provide excellent value for money Reflects the vision, mission, aims and values of the college and employers Is innovative, developmental and sector leading Promotes a culture of excellence and equality 2

3 Is judged as outstanding at next Ofsted/QAA Inspections. It is expected that the post holder will evaluate and improve their own professional practice in relation to the Professional Standards for Teachers and Educators in the Education and Training Sector. This expectation includes taking advantage of the training opportunities that are available within the college and maintaining a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) log in accordance with Awarding Organisation requirements. The post-holder will be a member of the Work-Based Learning Team and will liaise closely with curriculum staff and employers staff. Key Duties and Responsibilities: (1) Reflect the vision, mission, aims and values of the college. (2) Develop and maintain relationships with apprentices and employers (3) Carry out on-site risk assessments to ensure employers have appropriate health and safety arrangements in place (4) Ensure that all apprentices have an effective initial assessment, diagnostic assessment and skills scans prior to commencement of their learning programme and that the results are utilised well in developing Individual Learning Plans (5) Deliver teaching, learning and coaching support, including utilising appropriate assessment techniques in supporting the development of the apprentice s skills, knowledge and behaviours in the workplace (6) Use effective listening, assertiveness and questioning to support apprentices to engage with their learning plans and with assessment criteria and processes (7) Anticipate and overcome barriers to progress and inspire achievement, ensuring that learning is inclusive and supports diversity (8) Undertake appropriate corrective action to ensure apprentices achieve timely achievement of learning programmes if agreed timescales are not being met (9) Ensure that all apprentices have a comprehensive induction, including Health and Safety. (10) Ensure that employers are aware of their responsibilities in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion as well as other relevant legislation (11) Ensure that employers are supporting apprentices off-the-job learning activities and that these activities are correctly recorded on college systems (12) Support the delivery of off the job learning activities including liaison with college staff and employer mentors (13) Ensure that on and off the job learning activities are coordinated with learning outcomes recorded in electronic portfolios (14) Monitor apprentice attendance at college Assessment (15) Co-ordinate the progress of all elements of the programme. (16) Facilitate Initial and Diagnostic Assessment (17) Complete the Individual Learning Plan, where appropriate, including induction records and start and end dates. 3

4 (18) Ensure that the apprentice is registered with the relevant awarding body through liaison with the curriculum area and examinations team (19) Develop productive and inclusive working relationships with apprentices. (20) Assess the apprentice through appropriate assessment methods within required timescales and ensure portfolios and/or E-portfolios are kept up-to-date (21) Undertake regular progress reviews in accordance with College/Awarding Body requirements. (22) Deliver underpinning knowledge and functional skills, where appropriate. (23) Ensure that apprentice achievement is logged and approved by the awarding body (i.e. signed off by External Verifier/Quality Consultant or Internal Verifier where there is direct claim status) (24) Complete all records necessary to support programme completion in an accurate and timely manner, including input into the work-based learning database where necessary. Work Place Assessment (25) Establish the appropriateness of the work-based learning opportunities to ensure their relevance to the learning experience in conjunction with employers. (26) Liaise closely with other staff, as appropriate. (27) Effectively co-ordinate on and off the job learning and assessment activities (28) Undertake vocational assessments in the workplace (29) Deliver underpinning knowledge and functional\basic skills (30) Support students in their studies, preparing assessment records and reports on student progress (31) Contribute to the Course Review and Internal Verification processes and to the Self-Assessment of the Faculty (32) Keep accurate records of work placements Generic Duties and Responsibilities (33) Support and promote a culture of innovation, excellence and equality (34) Comply with College policies, procedures and agreements (35) Contribute to the risk management of the College.
