1 MTANDAO WA VIKUNDI VYA WAKULIMA TANZANIA (MVIWATA) Employment Opportunities Mtandao wa Vikundi vya Wakulima Tanzania (MVIWATA) is a Tanzanian national farmers organisation whose mission is to unite smallholder farmers for common actions on advocacy and economic empowerment. MVIWATA has its headquarters in Morogoro and some regional and district branches. MVIWATA implements various programmes with support and in collaboration with various partners. and the main focus is on smallholder farmers. Currently, MVIWATA has vacancies for various positions at the headquarters and at field level. Suitably qualified Tanzanians are invited to apply. Women are encouraged to apply. PROJECT COORDINATOR (1 POSITION) Reports to: Executive Director Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Technical leader of a cereals production and marketing project 2. To undertake coordinating tasks of the project 3. To backstop field staff for ensuring that the implementation of activities is in line with the project goals, objectives, indicators and time frame. 4. To support technically the team in field in matters pertaining to planning, animation and actual involvement of communities. 5. To promote linkages with local organisations, local government and other actors related to the project 6. To share with the knowledge management personnel and other key stakeholders key lessons and best practices for documentation. 7. To undertake monitoring of the progress of the project 8. To write progress reports on timely basis as per institutional and project requirements Holder of a Masters Degree in Agribusiness, Economics or Rural Development with adequate knowledge of cereals (rice and maize) agronomy. At least five (5) years of proven experience in relevant field and in similar management position Proven ability of project management and team player Objective and result oriented quality Computer literacy skills required MONITORING & EVALUATION OFFICER (1 POSITION) Reports to: Executive Director. Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1

2 1. Design the organisational monitoring & evaluation system (including data collection, tools, reporting and storage) that reflects the institutional results targets. 2. Coordinate implementation of the organisational M&E system and ensure that standard data collection tools and reporting tools are used by all staff. 3. Build organisational capacity to monitor and evaluate processes and results of all programmes and interventions. 4. Provide technical support to staff in data collection, verification, aggregation and reporting and their use for monitoring and assessing programmes performance. 5. Follow up implementation of the M&E system including sufficiency and quality of data 6. Provide oversight of implementation status of various programmes within the organisation. 7. Perform regular tracking and analysis of the M&E data and translation into the results targets that MVIWATA has set for informed decision making and programmes planning 8. Provide analytical evidences of impact and feed into the knowledge management system of the organisation 9. Participate in documenting good practices for knowledge sharing. 10. Prepare periodic progress reports as per institutional requirements Holder of Masters Degree in Statistics or equivalent qualification from a recognised university. At least four (4) years of proven experience in organisational monitoring and evaluation systems Strong skills in computer programmes on data management programmes such as MS Access, SAS, SPSS or STATA. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT OFFICER (1 POSITION) Reports to: Executive Director. Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Facilitate development of overall knowledge management system i.e. policy, strategy, tools and plan of MVIWATA 2. Manage documentation and dissemination of sound experiences of MIVIWATA and its members through publications. 3. Prepare MVIWATA periodic publications and reports, namely, monthly bulletin, Pambazuko newsletter, brochures, annual reports, policy briefs, training materials and other promotional materials. 4. Build the capacity of MVIWATA team at the national office as well at the branches in communication and writing skills. 5. Mobilise information, lessons and knowledge sharing among MVIWATA staff and members 6. Facilitate development of rural information, resource centres and rural reporters. 7. Manage MVIWATA website to ensure that it is uploaded in time and with diverse news and information. 8. Keep records and copies of all materials produced and distributed by MVIWATA 9. Manage relationship between MVIWATA and press and keep track of press coverage relevant to MVIWATA. 10. Develop and maintain the mailing list for effective distribution of MVIWATA publications 11. Organise evaluation of the knowledge management component. 12. Prepare periodic progress reports as per institutional requirements Holder of Masters Degree in Mass Communication from a recognised university; At least 4 years of proven experience in relevant field Excellent fluency in English and Kiswahili both in writing and speaking is a must. 2

3 Strong writing skills (reports, articles & publications) is a must TRAINING OFFICER (1 POSITION) Reports to: Executive Director Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Develop an overall farmers training programme of MVIWATA 2. Coordinate implementation of the said MVIWATA Training programme. 3. Undertake on periodic basis needs assessment of farmers to reflect the training programme 4. Coordinate preparation and regular revision of training materials to be used in the training programme 5. Organise on regular and consistent manner residential training courses to MVIWATA members and other farmers 6. Manage data base of trainees 7. Share with the knowledge management personnel and other key stakeholders key lessons and best practices for documentation. 8. Organise monitoring and periodic evaluation of the training programme in collaboration with the M&E Officer 9. Prepare periodic progress reports as per institutional requirements University Degree in Agricultural Education and Extension, Rural development, Community Development from a recognised university; A Masters Degree will be an added advantage Field experience of at least three (3) years in farmers training institutions (such as MATI and FDCs) GENDER OFFICER (1 POSITION) Reports to: Team Leader, Lobbying and Advocacy Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Design and oversee implementation of gender mainstreaming policy and strategy in MVIWATA 2. Design and facilitate interventions that aim at uplifting gender equality among the members of MVIWATA and farmers in rural areas. 3. Support the development and implementation of intervention plans to carry out activities that will increase the women participation in organisational activities 4. Devise gender monitoring and evaluation system in collaboration with MVIWATA M&E Officer 5. Participate in documenting and disseminating good experiences and lessons related to gender. 6. Facilitate partnerships with national and international actors in matters pertaining to gender 7. Organise gender events that relate to national and international days such as an international women s day, international AIDS day. 8. Participate in farmers training programme on gender issues 9. Oversee HIV/AIDS mainstreaming activities within MVIWATA 10. Facilitate capacity building interventions on gender and HIV for staff of MVIWATA 11. Share with the knowledge management personnel and other key stakeholders key lessons and best practices for documentation. 3

4 12. Organise internal evaluation of gender mainstreaming within the organsaition in collaboration the M&E Officer of MVIWATA. 13. Prepare periodic progress reports as per institutional requirements University Degree in Sociology, Gender, Community Development from a recognised university; A Masters Degree is an added advantage. At least 3 years practical experience in gender mainstreaming Demonstrated experience in policy advocacy, and social education and training on gender and social inclusion is desired. HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICER (1 POSITION) Reports to: Head of Finance and Administration Location: Morogoro. Main duties and Responsibilities 1. Administer human resource policies and procedures. 2. Coordinate staff recruitment process. 3. Coordinate induction process for new staff members. 4. Assist in coordination of performance management process. 5. Maintain accurate employees records in personal files and human resource database. 6. Administer staff leave and payroll functions including salary changes. 7. Coordinate staff training. 8. Monitor institutional compliance with the Tanzanian labour laws. 9. Administer staff benefits as per the organisational policies and procedures. 10. Prepare periodic progress reports as per institutional requirements Required qualifications University Degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized university; Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar position is essential. Knowledge of Tanzanian labour laws. MICROFINANCE OFFICER (1 POSITION) Reports to: Team Leader, Economic Empowerment Location: Morogoro Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Responsible for the overall coordination, management and implementation of the savings and credits component of MVIWATA. 2. Ensure savings and credits development and other micro-finance programme activities are implemented according to the annual work plan. 3. Identify the capacity building and training needs in micro-finance and cooperative development within the organisation members. 4. Develop and implement plans for capacity building of farmer based SACCOS and similar entities. 5. Provide technical support as per emerging needs of farmer-based SACCOS and their networks 6. Monitor the performance and progress of farmer-based SACCOS and their networks basing on well established indicators and feed into the MVIWATA M&E system. 7. Monitor the progress of MVIWATA credit fund and adherence its regulations and procedures. 4

5 8. Facilitate links with national financial institutions for the purpose of broadening the capacity and functioning of the farmers based financial institutions. 9. Participate as facilitator in farmers training programme particularly on entrepreneurship 10. Share with the knowledge management personnel and other key stakeholders key lessons and best practices on savings and credit for documentation. 11. Prepare periodic progress reports as per institutional requirements University Degree in Co-operative Management and Accounting from a recognized university Postgraduate Diploma in Community Development (PGD-CD) or Saving and Credit Cooperative Societies Management (PGD-SACCOS) from MUCCOBS will be an added advantage At least four (4) years experiences in relevant field FACILITATOR - MARKETING (1 POSITION) Reports to: Team Leader, Economic Empowerment Location: Morogoro Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Undertake capacity building of farmers on marketing of produce 2. Provide market oriented technical support to the farmers 3. Facilitate market linkages for farmers 4. Work with producer and marketing groups and cooperatives in view of improving their capacity 5. Monitor performance and provide technical backstopping to management and leadership of rural markets established under MVIWATA programmes. 6. Facilitate sharing of experience on market access among farmers 7. Facilitate networking with other stakeholders, projects and development partners to strengthen the selected value chains. 8. Participate in training programme of MVIWATA in matters pertaining to market access 9. Share with the knowledge management personnel and other key stakeholders key lessons and best practices on market access for documentation. 10. Prepare periodic progress reports as per the institutional requirements University Degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Economics or equivalent qualification from a recognised university Masters Degree in business or social studies will be an added advantage. At least three (3) years of proven experiences in relevant field Field Officer Agriculture (1 POSITION) This is a position within a partnership project on climate change; the partners in this project are Tanzania Forst Conservation Group (TFCG), Action Aid, Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM), MJUMITA and MVIWATA. The project is implemented in Kilosa and Chamwino Districts. MVIWATA has the responsibility in Kilosa District. Reports to: Tam Leader, Programming Location: Kilosa, Morogoro Duration of contract: Fixed contract of 2 years until December

6 Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1. To be responsible for directly implementing climate change agriculture related activities in Kilosa District. 2. Support smooth communication with other members of the project implementation team and with the Kilosa District Councils. 3. Provide regular communication about the project to the participating villages, wards and District. At all times s/he will treat farmers participating in the project in a professional and courteous manner. 4. At all times to act in a professional and courteous manner and will maintain a positive image of the Project and the Consortium 5. Prepare biannual work plans and budgets for activities under Strategy 3 in Kilosa and will present these to the partners and to the Project Manager for review and approval. Work plans and budgets will be prepared in the format outlined in the Strategic Grant Agreement. 6. Assist the Project Manager and the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in the implementation of the project s monitoring and evaluation plan. 7. Assist the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in collecting data necessary to generate lessons learned from the project and to measure the impact of the project. 8. Apply adaptive management skills in the implementation of the Project Document in order to guide the project towards the achievement of its overall goal. 9. Prepare biannual technical reports for activities under Strategy 3 in Kilosa and will present these to the partners and to the Project Manager for review and approval. Biannual technical reports will be prepared in the format outlined in the Strategic Grant Agreement. 10. Prepare activity reports and submit these to the partners and to the Project Manager. 11. Share photographs of project activities with the project manager for use in materials related to the project. 12. Ensure that project reports and other documents are maintained in an orderly and accessible manner in the project office in Kilosa 13. Ensure that regular back ups are made of computer files related to the project and that backups are kept in a safe location away from the original files. 14. To be responsible for ensuring that his/her computer has up to date virus protection on their computers. University Degree in Agriculture or Agronomy from a recognized university; At least 3 years experience in providing agricultural extension services to farmers and other stakeholders along the agricultural value chain; A proven personal commitment to environmental conservation Experience in conservation agriculture and / or climate change adaptation is an advantage Field Officer - Agronomy (1 POSITION) Reports to: Field Coordinator Duty Station: Mvomero, Morogoro Duration of contract: Yearly contracts, renewable on the basis of performance 6

7 Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Facilitate in innovative, participatory and practical approaches rice and maize agronomy training to farmers on consistent and regular manner. 2. Facilitate establishment and management of demonstration plots 3. Conduct field visits on a regular and consistent manner and provide field backstopping to farmers basing on their specific needs. 4. Facilitate farmers exchange on rice and maize production 5. Facilitate monitoring of crop performance and yield by farmers themselves 6. Provide to rice and maize farmers information on new but sustainable (economically and ecologically sound) technologies and innovations. 7. Help farmers understand and undertake soil and water conservation practices. 8. Facilitate linkages with research institutions, local government and relevant service providers for the purpose of broadening the horizon of farmers knowledge and access to services. 9. Keep quantitative and qualitative records such as adoption of agronomic practices, yield improvement and economic progression for the purpose of monitoring and evaluation of the programme. 11. Share with the knowledge management personnel and other key stakeholders key lessons and best practices on market access for documentation. 12. Prepare periodic progress reports as per institutional requirements University Degree in Agronomy or agriculture from or equivalent qualification a from recognised university with a minimum of 3 years of field experience Diploma in Crop Production with a minimum of 5 years field experience Ability to ride a motor bike will be an added advantage Good facilitation and writing skills Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili. Computer literacy Field Officer (4 POSITIONS) Reports to: Project Coordinator Location: Mvomero, Kiteto, Njombe and Mbarali Duration of contract: Terms of Contract is 2 years renewable on the basis of performance Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Facilitate in innovative, participatory and practical approaches cereal agronomy and market access training to farmers on consistent and regular manner. 2. Facilitate establishment of smallholder farmers groups and networks and provide technical support to the groups. 3. Facilitate establishment and management of demonstration plots 4. Conduct field visits on a regular and consistent manner and provide field backstopping to farmers basing on their specific needs. 5. Facilitate farmers exchange on production, marketing and micro-financing 6. Facilitate monitoring of crop performance and yield by farmers themselves 7. Provide to farmers information on new but sustainable (economically and ecologically sound) technologies and innovations. 8. Facilitate linkages with research institutions, local government and relevant service providers for the purpose of broadening the horizon of farmers knowledge and access to services. 9. Keep quantitative and qualitative records such as adoption of agronomic practices, yield improvement and economic progression for the purpose of monitoring and evaluation of the programme. 10. Participate in network meetings which are held in various wards and villages within district 11. Organize and facilitate meetings of the farmers and market stakeholders. 12. Prepare periodic progress reports as per the institutional and project requirements University degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension or Agronomy from a recognised university with at least 3 years experience Diploma in Agriculture with minimum experience of 5 years Ability to ride a motor bike Good facilitation and writing skills Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili. Computer literacy Essential Competencies for all positions Ability to work in team and complement one another Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work under pressure and complete tasks on deadlines.
