1 JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION Sport and Recreation Trainee College Department Sport Position: Full-Time Sport and Recreation Trainee Tenure: 12 month period only Commencement: 24 January 2018 JOB DESCRIPTION 1. Summary of the broad purpose of the job in relation to the College s goals. (Expected outcome and how it is achieved.) The Sport and Recreation Trainee is required to provide support to the College community under the direction of the Sports Coordinator. He or she will be responsible for the organisation of resources for sporting/music events, assisting with after school sporting groups and administration tasks associated with sporting and music faculties. The role also requires the Sport and Recreation Trainee to complete a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. 2. Reporting / Working Relationships (To whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible and other significant connections and working relationships within the College.) The Sport and Recreation Trainee reports to the Head of Secondary School through the Sports Coordinator. The role requires daily contact with parents / carers of students, staff and students. All staff are ultimately responsible to the Principal. 3. Special Requirements The Sport and Recreation Trainee will be required to hold a First Aid Certificate (this will be undertaken as part of the Certificate III), Approved Mandatory Notification training (this will be undertaken as part of the Certificate III) and a Department of Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) check. Some out of hours work will be required to set up for musical performances/sporting events. A three month probationary period will apply. 4. Extent of Authority The Sport and Recreation Trainee works under the direction of the Sports Coordinator. The Sport and Recreation Trainee will abide by College policy and procedures and perform all duties as requested by the Executive Team. 1

2 JOB DESCRIPTION 5. Statement of Key Outcomes & Associated Activities (Grouped into the Key Result Areas (KRAs), and as major areas of responsibility and activity.) The role of the Sport and Recreation Trainee encompasses activities within the following Key Result Areas (KRAs): Sport/Music Support Administration/Event Support First Aid & Health Services The responsibilities of the Sport and Recreation Trainee in each KRA include: Sport / Music Support Assist Sport Coordinator in the communication and organisation of SESSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival swimming carnivals and other athletic events. Stocktake of sports equipment to ensure adequate supplies for Interschool Athletics. Assist in keeping sports shed and music room neat, organised and in working order. Assist in organisation, management and coaching of school sports teams. Support student learning as directed by teachers. Assist in coordination of school bands and choirs. Assist with organising resources and day to day operations for music/pe lessons as directed by teacher. Assist with after school sporting events such as Net Set Go, Auskick and In2Cricket. Administration/Event Support Administration work associated with sports teams/events (eg preparing team sheets, communicating with team members, preparing uniforms, notifying practice times, reminders to students about upcoming competitions, communicating with parents etc). Learn to use the sound desk for chapel and sports events and assist with the sound and set up for music performances. Assist with administration duties for music events (eisteddfods, concerts etc). First Aid & Health Services Provide assessment of a medical condition within the capabilities of training and qualifications and be able to administer assistance accordingly. Liaise with all relevant personnel within the College community, external agencies and the wider community as the role necessitates. Have a full knowledge and understanding of emergency procedures, College policies and the legal requirements associated with providing a safe environment for students and staff, and then be able to implement strategies to meet all requirements. Document any incidents relating to child welfare & safety. 2

3 PERSON SPECIFICATION 1. Educational / Vocational Qualifications Completion of Year 12. Qualifications in First Aid to a minimal standard of Senior First Aid (Will be undertaken as part of the Certificate III). Approved Mandatory Notification training (Will be undertaken as part of the Certificate III). Department of Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) check. 2. Personal Skills, Abilities & Aptitude The skills, abilities and aptitude of the Sport and Recreation Trainee must reflect the professional management of all aspects of student support and care including the handling of sensitive files and data. These encompass the following: Skills High level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software. Organisational and time management skills including the ability to cope with high volumes of work, changing priorities and meeting critical deadlines. Well developed communication skills (phone, , verbal, written correspondence). Demonstrate high literacy skills. Interpersonal skills that portray a welcoming atmosphere, friendly disposition and helpful nature. Ability to Aptitude Work cohesively in a team environment as well as working autonomously where required. Use diplomacy, discretion and tact as required in a professional work environment. Operate with the strictest of confidence. Provide positive, enthusiastic support to staff, students, parents and members of organisations associated with the College. Achieve objectives of meeting specified targets. A personal commitment to the College Vision, Mission and values underpinning the delivery of a Christian based education to students in the College community is essential. Demonstrate Christian integrity in all things. Have a full understanding of how to securely handle and manage the personal data of staff and students in a school environment. Be a lateral thinker, proactive and be prepared to undertake an innovative approach. Have an interest in supporting others and providing exceptional levels of service to students. 3

Classification Level The position of Sport and Recreation Trainee is provided under the conditions of the Commonwealth Government s New Apprenticeship Scheme.. 6. Performance Standards & Review A Trainee Performance Review is undertaken with the Head of Secondary School to determine capacity to meet the demands of the role; where additional skills training is required and what level of job satisfaction is being obtained. The basis of the Performance Review is utilising the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) identified in Appendix A. 5 PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENTAPPENDIX A In relation to setting goals and managing performance, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are put in place within each Key Result Area (KRA) so that effort can be measured and performance rewarded. Student Support Students are happy with the level of communications and welcome interaction with the Sport and Recreation Trainee. Students respect the direction and supervision provided by the Sport and Recreation Trainee. Sport and Recreation Support General administrative support is readily provided when required, and is of a high standard according to the Sport Coordinator. Deadlines have been met. First Aid & Health Services First Aid qualifications are current and meet the demands of the role. Accurate assessment of conditions is made with appropriate assistance provided. The Sport and Recreation Trainee is calm and follows procedure when delivering First Aid. Students and staff are comforted in the delivery of First Aid by the Sport and Recreation Trainee. General Study schedule has been maintained to complete all study units within 12 months. 5
