16 UNPAN Announcements Announcements are used to share news between UNPAN Partners and to disseminate information to the worldwide public administration community Announcements should be submitted to the relevant regional page and should have a word count no more than 250 words Announcements should be linked to a page that can provide users with further information Announcements help keep regional pages active Relevant photos should be used aesthetic purposes 16

Announcements specifically related to the UNPAN Partners UNPAN News are published articles specifically related to Public Administration UNPAN Partners should contribute one or more announcements to UNPAN per month 17

18 UNPAN News UNPAN News is used to share latest news on public administration between UNPAN Members and to disseminate information to the worldwide public administration community. There is no word limit for news articles It is essential that news items are properly sourced. For example if the article was found on the internet the web link should be in the source field required in the news module. 18

You can share all public administration news found on UNPAN. 20 UNPAN Events UNPAN Events are used to share latest conferences and training workshops on public administration between UNPAN Members and to disseminate information to the worldwide public administration community. All events should be related to public administration UNPAN Members can benefit from publishing and advertising their events on UNPAN by increased participation and awareness of their event by the public administration community. 20

UNPAN Partners should only contribute events which the organization is hosting or participating in The number of events uploaded per month will depend on how many events the organization participates in or hosts 21

22 UNPAN Documents The UNPAN Library is used to share relevant documents on public administration between UNPAN Members. There is no limit on the number of public administration related documents your organization can upload per month. To increase the impact of knowledge sharing through the Document Management System Members are advised to upload a minimum of 2 public administration related documents per month. 22

23 UNPAN Documents Do I have a different username and password to contribute documents only? I contributed a document last week but after some revisions I now have a v2. Does UNPAN 2.0 have version control? Only one username and password is needed to contribute content to UNPAN 2.0 UNPAN 2.0 does have version control. Users will have access to all versions contributed. Each UNPAN Partner s staff who contributes to UNPAN will have his or her own unique username and password which will be linked to their organization External users will only view the most recent version 23

It only contains experts in the field of public administration. All contributions to UNPAN Expert DB go through an expert validation workflow 27

32 Categories and Taxonomy What is Taxonomy? Taxonomy is a hierarchical scientific classification system. UNPAN 2.0 uses this to categorize and classify documents and content contributions. In UNPAN 2.0 all thematic focus areas will have their own dedicated page where users can find all content under a specific theme. 32

49 Partner Requests from UNPAN-DPADM IIAS Articulate clearly what kind of information is sought Provide a list of specific fields in PA in which information is sought Give information to what kind of information is not sought, in order to avoid similar contributions by different UNPAN partners Cooperate each other for developing mutually beneficial programs and/or projects and participate at IIAS meetings Information sharing Joint activities (panels, seminars, programs, and projects) Information on each new Conference or Training activity in Africa needs to be monitored by CAFRAD and, if relevant, posted on UNPAN Conference/Training Service. To do this we need to hire additional staff such as an assistant of research to work fully on UNPAN programme; Experts to support UNPAN ORC CAFRAD in training and advisory services to implement UNPAN activities and provide equipment, technical support and training are required 49

Update the staff in the sharing of information contained on CD/ROMs As part of its activities, IDEP organizes monthly public lectures on targeted topics. These conferences could be shared in the form of video recordings. In this regard, UNPAN would provide IDEP with the right equipment and knowledge. Digitalize the entire IDEP s holdings constituted since 1960s. 50

55 Blogs A blog is a type of website or part of a website that is usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. On UNPAN s blog, users can find posts related to e-government. Become an author of the blog and contribute with articles related to e-government; Embedding the entries in the blog on your website. 55

56 Del.icio.us It allows users to tag their favorite websites, organize and share them with their network. On UNPAN s bookmarks, users can find websites related to Pubic Administration and other topics covered by our network. Add new websites related to the topics covered by UNPAN; Promote the network on your website; Indicate registered experts and practitioners with interest in the same topics, so UNPAN also can add them in its network and share their bookmarks. 56

57 Facebook It is a social networking website that connects people. On UNPAN s Facebook page we promote some of the content published daily on the UNPAN website and also in other social media, such as Picasa and Scribd. Become a fan of the page; Add news and announcements on the UNPAN website so that we can reproduce those in Facebook; Promote the UNPAN news in Facebook so that we can reach out more people. 57

58 Picasa It is a photo sharing website that allows you to organize your pictures and to share those with your network. On UNPAN s page, we publish pictures from our conferences and events. Share the photos from events and conferences; Embed your albums in your portal and inform us so we can also promote your work in UNPAN. 58

59 RSS Feed RSS (an abbreviation for Really Simple Syndication) is a tool that notifies the users (subscribed to this service) when a new content is uploaded in the UNPAN website. The user can access the new content through a RSS reader (Google Reader, FeedDemon, NewsGator ). Add new announcements, news and events; Use UNPAN RSS feeds on your website, especially documents. 59

60 Scribd It is a publishing and reading social network where users can share and discover original written content on the web. The publications available on UNPAN's account can also be accessed through mobile devices. The users can also download, print and give feedbacks. 61 Twitter It is a social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read other users messages. UNPAN s page on Twitter is used to disseminate the announcements made on the UNPAN website. Become a follower of UNPAN on Twitter and retweet the messages posted by UNPAN that you consider important for your network; Embed UNPAN tweets in your portal; Use #unpan hash tag for your tweets so you can create communities of people interested in UNPAN and also make it easier for us to find and share your inputs. 61
