2 ASMR Progress for May 2014: RSPO Recommendation BGA Report on 29 April 2014 Progress as of 29 May ) Implement actions listed in the joint proposal submitted by FOB and Siesfund on 17 February ) Communicated the MOU by translating to Bahasa Indonesia and circulated the MOU to the Regional Head ( RH ) and Estate Managers ( ES ) to ensure that they will implement the MOU properly. 2) Joint program with FOB and Siesfund to enrich 50 ha of the Sungai Sekonyer buffer zone started with the allocation of a specific area and the collection of local seeds for nursery development prior to planting towards the second half year of ) ASMR is also preparing a nursery for the reforestation programme with Tanjung Puting National Park, planting expected to start in July onwards. 1) Continue to prepare for the full implementation of the MOU in June. 2) Continue to communicate with FOB, and monitor the joint program. The FOB and Siesfund s nursery has been collecting local seeds for planting in the next semester. Plans for June includes: a) Meeting with FOB. b) Independent testing of water quality in the rivers of Teluk Pulai. 3) Currently the nursery of ASMR has collected about 40,000 seedlings and will prepare these seedlings to be planted when they are of age which is roughly in the month of September and after receipt of permits for planting in the buffer zone. Plans for June includes: a) Building of the fire watch tower. b) Training on proper fire prevention. c) Dissemination on the planting method of the first 500 metres after the buffer. 2) Prepare an HCV Management Plan, Action Plan and Monitoring Plan. 1) ASMR has uploaded summary of the HCV Management Plan, Action Plan and Monitoring Plan onto the RSPO website by 6 February 2014, as part of the NPP 1) Done.

3 documents. 2) The sustainability team have socialised and prepared instructions of these plans to the RH and ES example; Make boundaries (4x4 m) along the buffer zone. 2) Progress: The results of the peat and carbon stock survey will determine how this boundary will be drawn and executed. Conduct detail survey and produce maps on the HCV location and Sekonyer river buffer zone. Disseminate SOP on the HCV Management and BMP on the mitigation of conflict between human-orangutan. Survey of the HCV location has been implemented, starting from 28 April and is scheduled to be completed by the 29 May Dissemination of SOP on the HCV management and BMP on the mitigation of conflict between human-orangutan - Done. Produce signboards, posters, and other public awareness material on the importance of wildlife. Signboards are on-going. Will be arranging for a poster competition as part of public awareness drive on importance of preserving wildlife. Search for seedlings of local plants and make nursery (for enrichment of buffer zone with plants beneficial for wildlife and community needs). Implement the enrichment. Monitor the enrichment. Nursery, local seedlings and enrichment of buffer zone: nursery has collected about 40,000 seedlings. 3) Reporting format and documents will be prepared by mid May 2014 to improve on communication between ES and sustainability team. 3) Consultation with the ASMR staff on the reporting format and documents has been conducted during the field surveys for HCS, peat and orangutan.

4 c) Continue with management of wildlife species (orangutan) with the Tanjung Puting National Park (TNTP) and the Board of Natural Resources Conservation (BKSDA) 1) Had prepared an SOP-ASMR-MOU-W5B-001 Penanganan Orangutan (2013) 2) Signed MOU with TNTP on the Development of Buffer Zone of TNTP, on 28 November ) We are currently finalizing the MOU with BKSDA on the conservation program, expected to be signed in May ) Have a team of 20 persons doing monitoring and patrolling in ASMR. However ASMR is currently looking for a team leader who will plan schedule, report and monitor performance of staff and provide training and counselling. 1) Done. 2) Done. (Refer to (1) above for more details. 3) Still finalising terms with BKSDA. 4) The team consists of security staff and local community. Currently still looking for a team leader and looking to organise further monitoring and patrolling training for this team. This training will be conducted for the satgas team of NKU too. d) Proceed to execute all measures to conform to the New Planting Procedures (NPP) including a notification of new planting for public consultation. (Refer to (b) above). Done. e) Complete a joint survey with the complainants and the local authority within the concession for the presence of the Orangutans. These surveys should focus on the yet uncleared areas within the license of ASMR, especially near the 1) Had already conducted a joint survey on the presence of orangutans with BOSF at the end of December We will discuss with the various stakeholder if that report suffice (refer to reply (f)(4)). 1) The ASMR internal team is also monitoring and updating on the sighting of orang-utans and their nest from 28 April to 29 May 2014 so as to ensure relevant actions will and are taken.

5 Sekonyer River. f) The company should take necessary actions as described in SOP-ASMR- MOU-W5B-001 Penanganan Orangutan (2013) to address any potential human-orangutan conflicts. 1) Constructing 3 watchtowers in Kumai Hilir, Sekonyer, and Teluk Pulai, during May June 2014 as part of fire mitigation. These towers can also be utilised by the Tanjung Puting NP and BKSDA staff and PT ASMR task force for orangutan and other wildlife monitoring of the surrounding area. 2) ASMR has established a taskforce on the monitoring and patrolling of orangutan, with members from ASMR staff and community from the 3 villages of Kumai Hilir, Sekonyer, and Teluk Pulai. The taskforce has been trained in November 2013, and will be retrained in May 2014, and also as part of implementing the SOP-ASMR- MOU-W5B-001 Penanganan Orangutan. 3) Re-fresher training on the Best Management Practice on the mitigation of conflict between human-orangutan will be conducted at the end of May, with trainers from the TNTP, BKSDA, and relevant NGOs. 4) PT ASMR has conducted orangutan survey in the ASMR area, including Sekonyer area with BOSF (Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation) in December 2013 January The report is comprehensive and was delivered in February ASMR has discussed the recommendations with the BOSF in February 2014 and BOSF has taken into account ASMR Action Plan. 1) The watchtowers are currently being constructed in Kumai, 2 expected to be completed in July and 1 in August. 2) Refer to (c.4) above. 3) BKSDA, TNTP and an NGO will be organising a monitoring and patrolling training for the taskforce here as well as the team in NKU. The date have not been fixed but expected to be around June/July ) From the May meeting, additional inputs arising from the recommendation from BOSF will be forthcoming.

6 g) Prepare a water management plan in Teluk Pulai by taking into account the presence of peat land located in the TNTP territory. 1) ASMR staff and the internal R&D team have just started (28 April 2014) to conduct the 5 th peat survey (by independent surveyor, HCV assessors, Aksenta independent audit and internal R&D team) in the ASMR concession (both Teluk Pulai and Sekonyer) so as to ascertain peat areas and peat profile prior to any land clearing. 2) ASMR will follow the SOP for Water Management System (BGAAGRKS-SOP-04), Management of Marginal Land (BGAAGRKS-SOP-16), Water and Land Conservation (BGAAGRKS-SOP-05), as well the RSPO Manual on Best Management Practice for Existing Oil Palm Cultivation on Peat, by Dr. Peter Lim et.al (2013). 1) The ASMR R&D team is scheduled to finish the overall peat survey and its report by early June The team has been running this survey since 28 April This survey has been closely monitored by a consultant. 2) ASMR will start work on the water management plan in June. h) Prepare a profile of peat distribution and depth in the Sekonyer area and its surroundings to determine the BMP for the peat area management. Refer to (g) above. Refer to the point (g.1), the peat distribution profile will be analysed in early June and its analysis will determine planting plans. i) BAL to do a Land Use Change analysis and prepare compensation proposal submit to the Compensation Panel for review. 1) On 15 April 2014 BAL have been assigned a Compensation Panel. As shared in the BHCV Working Group meeting, all LUC will be overseen by this Compensation Panel. 2) ASMR is in the midst of preparing for the LUC report scheduled to be ready by end May 2014 (due to lack of manpower in GIS department). ASMR is currently finalising the LUC report and will submit to the Compensation Panel in July.

7 j) Submit a progress report to the RSPO on the implementation of items a-i on a monthly basis for the next 6 months and subject to field inspection if deemed necessary. ASMR will continue to submit a progressive report over the next 6 months. ASMR will continue to submit a progressive report from April to September 2014.
