2 Overview An introduction to the course Who is this course for? Our unique cross-sector course provides a structured and supportive environment for managers to assess their current leadership capabilities. The ILM-accredited qualification acts as a springboard to develop the key attributes of leadership: communication, confidence and commitment. This qualification is designed for department heads, directors, project managers, and other practising managers looking to: Develop technical knowledge and skills, strategic insight and practical expertise. 3 Course outline and dates How will I learn? This six-month programme offers a blend of master classes with invited guest speakers, coaching sessions, and a special site visit that extends your learning outside the training room. Taking a fully cross-sector approach, we encourage delegates to consider their industry big-picture, as well as effective strategic thinking and partnership working. You will be tutored in both one-to-one sessions and small groups, and will be fully supported throughout the programme before earning your ILM accreditation. What core modules are involved? Developing a vision that chimes with existing strategy. Communicating and advocating at a senior level. Spotting the right partnerships and getting them off the ground. Understanding difference and the business benefits of an inclusive approach. Tapping into your emotional intelligence and using this to lead teams and motivate stakeholders. Developing and demonstrating your business acumen and political awareness. Using reflection techniques to build on your ability to adapt and act with integrity as a leader. How is the course organised? We hold three leadership and management master classes, each with an inspiring guest speaker whose insights offer a precious chance to understand the ways in which others have navigated leadership challenges, successfully or otherwise. Our programme of speakers has included candid contributions from those who have led companies and organisations in financial services, local government, the creative industries and senior civil service. Previous speakers have included: Scott Beaumont, Managing Director, Google Elaine Bailey, Managing Director, Serco Deborah Cadman OBE, Chief Executive, Suffolk County Council Paul Wilson CBE, HM Chief Inspector of Probation Sarah Hicks, Managing Director (Digital Banking) at Santander Jess Kuller, Senior Vice President HR, Genworth Financial.

4 Masterclasses are facilitated in a way which brings established leadership approaches and frameworks to life, and relates them directly to the delegates own professional experience. Delegates are inspired by each other (being drawn from a wide range of business backgrounds), with space given for sharing challenges, experience and good practice between the group. These connections are long-lasting. Our leadership and management alumni remain part of an important professional network beyond the life of the course. The course includes a half-day site visit to meet a leader who has led their organisation through major change. This session gives delegates a rare glimpse of leadership in action, and a deeper understanding of how leaders develop authenticity and integrity in their role. Strategy and Vision Developing your vision, and the strategy to achieve it Communicating key values and strategies Building Emotional Intelligence and business acumen Getting constructive feedback. Three executive coaching sessions with your course leader Exploring learning outcomes Practical application of learning from the course Developing your action plan

Our course tutor, Mark Lomas, was most recently Diversity Manager at the BBC. Mark has specific expertise in corporate leadership strategy and policy development, employee relations and managing sector-wide diversity initiatives. His other clients have included NHS Trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups, the Law Society, the Bermuda Human Rights Commission, ITV, the Financial Reporting Council, Sheffield University and UKTV. Mark is also currently a tutor on our Appledore senior leadership training programme (ILM Level 7 Award in Strategic Leadership).
