1 Job Description: MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR CLASS NO. 117 PAY GROUP: EEOC CATEGORY: FLSA: NON-EXEMPT SUMMARY OF POSITION The City of Navasota seeks a dynamic self-starter to coordinate marketing activities and event promotion. Degree and experience in marketing, communications, public relations or related area preferred. Ability to multi-task, interface with governmental, community and volunteer groups is essential. Experience with website management, basic photography, event sponsorship development, event vendor relations and social media highly desirable. Salary based on qualifications and experience. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS 1. Reports to: Assistant City Manager 2. Directs: May direct volunteers. 3. Other: Has frequent contact with department heads;; city employees;; local, state and federal agencies;; and the general public. EXAMPLES OF WORK Essential Duties* Develops integrated marketing, advertising, media and public relations strategy and tactics;; identifies city visitor demand, creates promotional material, and establishes needed product. Develop promotional materials, press releases, newsletter articles, etc. Plans, directs and coordinates activities aimed at enhancing the image of Navasota as a destination point for overnight visitors and increasing consumer traffic to the City. Implements comprehensive destination development plan for the Navasota area, secures organizational commitment to the plan from the City of Navasota and community stakeholders. Manage the development of small community events (parades, city celebrations, etc) and large scale festivals that are held many times a year with various types of entertainment. Maintains various social media & online platforms such as: Facebook, twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram, vine, etc. Distribute literature to hotels, Texas Travel Information Centers & other outlets as appropriate.

2 Prepares detailed and complex documents utilizing a variety of software programs Coordinate with various local businesses to develop destination packages that are unique to the area. Maintain Community Calendar and coordinate with Navasota/Grimes County Chamber of Commerce for use in the Chamber newsletter. Help create a vendor structure and multi-level sponsorship packages for various city events and festivals. Identifies short and long term issues through surveys;; recommends initiatives, evaluates alternatives and provides information and commentary relative to deliberations and implements directives. Maintains, strengthens professional and technical knowledge by attending industry conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks and participating in industry development organizations. Coordinates the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers;; utilizes volunteers as needed to promote events. Assigns and monitors work product and appraises effectiveness. Maintain Community Calendar and coordinate with Navasota/Grimes County Chamber of Commerce for use in the Chamber newsletter. Maintain an Annual Community Calendar of Special Events. Maintain working relationships with local hospitality industry, local officials and all boards, committees and community groups that are part of the tourism product, including regional and state organizations. Responsible for creation development and maintenance of Main Street publications, research, promotional items and website Inform press, state, local, and other interested parties of tourism activities. Maintain tracking records and creation and maintenance of a tracking system to determine economic impact of tourism on the Navasota area to gauge return on investment figures. Assist in developing Occupancy Reports from area Hotels detailing number of guests and origination points (via zip code).

3 Attend Council Meetings to take pictures and gather information to be distributed through social media and/or press releases. Develop and present department presentations and reports to City Council and other boards as required. Investigate additional sources of funding such as grants, coop opportunities, and partnerships. Represent Navasota at regional and state conferences and trade shows as time and budget allows. General office duties as needed or as time allows. OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES* Customer Service: This is a front-line position for providing excellent customer service to members of the general public. Personal contact occurs with employees of other city departments within the city, citizens, business owners, volunteers and customers of the department. Service is provided in person or by phone or contact and must maintain the highest level of professionalism at all times. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Job Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to city officials, public groups and/or boards. Problem Solving Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Specialized Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of principles of management, marketing, communications, publicity, and advertising, relative to destination management development. Must be well organized and able to manage several projects concurrently. Ability to meet multiple deadlines. Ability to build consensus among disparate groups and individuals. Knowledge of the operations and practices of local government, including budget administration. Skill in strategic planning. Skill in creative written and oral communication. Ability to manage outside vendors. Ability to assimilate and analyze information from a variety of sources, and recommend courses of action, including alternatives. Ability to plan, organize, and effectively present ideas, concepts, and alternatives to diverse audiences. Ability to identify and secure funding/grants from external sources. Ability to effectively supervise paid and volunteer workers. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns. Includes the ability to build a constructive team spirit where team members are committed to the goals and objectives of the team. Technical Skills and Abilities: Adept at computer programs on a Mac platform including Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint. Able to manage and update event websites using editor interface.

5 Able to use Photoshop or other layout programs to create basic ads/literature is a PLUS. Able to use camera/phone to take pictures, edit and upload for a variety of communications uses. Able to use social media for promotion purposes. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business Administration, Communications or a related field preferred;; and two (2) years or more of relevant experience marketing a business, preferably a tourist destination;; Optimal experience would include extensive in a destination management leadership role at a Convention and Visitors Bureaus or other promotion agency or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
