1 DRAFT JOB DESCRIPTION Subject to consultation Job Title Head of Learning Support, Ambitious College Team Ambitious College Member of AaA Senior Management Team Job Band Hours Likely to be Band 8, subject ot job evaluation. This is a new role 37.5 Monday to Friday 8.30am 5pm. Flexibility is required in order too meet the varying needs of the College. Reporting to Line Manages Principal (Ambitious College) Behaviour Analysts Allied Health Professionals Direct clinical supervision of Behaviour Analysts Approved By (ELT MEMBER): Vivienne Berkeley Date: 10 June 2015 Role Purpose As a member of Ambitious College (AC) Senior Leadership Team (SLT) work collaboratively with the Principal to lead and manage the College. Develop, establish and evaluate a robust learner assessment system that accurately identifies each learner s needs and informs effective and efficient allocation and provision mapping of Learning Support resources in AC. To lead on the behavioural model of practice for AC across the campuses. As a member of Ambitious about Autism (AaA) Senior Management Team, strategically work with other practice leads in Ambitious about Autism services to ensure high quality practice; a consistent approach to assessment; learning underpinned by the principles of Positive Behaviour Support; and to oversee the supervision framework for Behaviour Analysts and those working towards qualification. Demonstrate the vision and values of AC and AaA in everyday work and practice, upholding the college ethos of challenge and support where all learners can reach their full potential and maximise their engagement in learning. Actively contribute to the shared culture of excellence and capacity building that promotes inclusion and maximises learning and achievement of learners and colleagues. To treat all members of the college and charity community fairly, with dignity and respect, contributing to the positive college ethos and culture. Responsible for ensuring that your own practice is consistent with AC and AaA organisation policies and procedures and for keeping abreast of any changes to these e.g. through reading updated policies or participating in CPD and staff training. Responsible for your own effective professional communication, orally and in writing, to the right people at the right time. Actively engage in personal and corporate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) regularly reflecting on your own practice, working towards personal targets and by participating positively in the arrangements made for performance management/appraisal and clinical supervision

2 Responsible for ensuring that your own responsibilities and accountabilities are clearly defined and understood and for managing your work and working proactively with your manager to that end. To uphold AC and AaA policies to protect and safeguard vulnerable adults in order to secure their health, safety and wellbeing. Responsible for ensuring that your personal use of resources is efficient and effective and actively upholds AC and AaA Health and Safety and Expenditure policies. Assume personal responsibility for implementing the organisation s policy on Equal Opportunities and inclusion for all staff and pupils. Carry out any such duties as may be reasonably required by the College Principal Key Accountabilities & Dimensions Leadership & Management (Teaching & Learning) To ensure outstanding teaching, professional practice and learning in Ambitious College as a result of effective multi-disciplinary working underpinned by a behavioural model of practice through modelling, supervision and monitoring, evaluation and review. Accountable for accurate assessment of each learner s learning (and potential barriers to learning) profile and support needs using a range of appropriate tools and measures prior to admission to determine level of support; and to lead the review of these at least annually in accordance with agreed assessment cycles. Represent AC in LA meetings. In collaboration with the Vice Principal, ensure that all colleagues hold consistently high expectations for all learners, are aware of the stretching and challenging targets set and have effectively planned targeted support to ensure learners achieve their targets. Through rigorous provision mapping, supervision and line management ensure that evidence-based behavioural teaching and learning support strategies, together with positive behaviour support plans and interventions based on functional analysis and assessment, are well matched to individual learner needs and are mapped onto learner timetables to support all learners to access and progress through a challenging curriculum that inspires them to develop the key skills required to be an effective learner and achiever. Be proactive through effective supervision and monitoring and evaluation systems in avoiding cases that present a cause for concern; where there is a cause for concern, responsible for responding in timely fashion, trouble shooting in crises situations to lead and build the capacity of staff to deal with complex or challenging behaviour and learning, and supporting staff with behaviour change programmes. This will also include supporting staff in parents/la meetings when required. Work collaboratively with the Vice Principal to ensure that Continuing Professional Development package for staff is informed by service development needs, is clearly identified, planned, implemented and reviewed. Accountable for the development and implementation of a competency based approach to staff training to ensure that all staff acquire core skills and competencies in behaviour analysis. In collaboration with Manager of Allied Health Professionals, ensure that appropriate means of assessing learners autonomy, voice, choices are used and that the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act are observed. Work closely with families both directly and through other AaA services (e.g. Family Information and Support, Ambitious College) to ensure that interventions have social validity and are effective in supporting families to stay together where appropriate. Responsible for leading the competency based staff training programme and to assess staff competency at regular reviews throughout the programme.

3 Responsible for ensuring through effective planning as a member of the Senior Leadership Team that all staff are aware of and compliant with Ambitious College policies and guidance around best practice in relation to Positive Handling. Responsible for ensuring through supervision and line management that all behavioural interventions take account of the Mental Capacity Act and Child/Vulnerable Adult Protection requirements. Regularly review behavioural interventions being used within the college for contextual fit and effectiveness in supporting learner progress. Responsible for ensuring through supervision and line management that all behavioural interventions are compliant with Health and Safety policies in Ambitious about Autism and that the college environment is well managed and resources used efficiently and safely. Responsible for the agreeing, managing, monitoring, and reporting on budgets. Be an active member of Ambitious about Autism s Admissions panel (Ambitious College). To be a member of the Senior Management Team for Ambitious about Autism. Senior SENCO for Ambitious College. Report to Trustees and Ambitious College Governing Body as required. Leadership and Management (Operational) Responsible, with the Vice Principal, for the effective management and development of college systems that ensure learners make progress relative to their starting point as a result of sharply focussed and challenging targets and effective learning support strategies. Ensure that learners are well prepared for the next stage of their lives by working with the Vice Principal to co-ordinate joined-up working between the Curriculum Manager/Head of Curriculum Behaviour Analysts, Lecturers and Allied Health Professionals. Work as a collaborative member of College SLT to develop the overall aims and objectives of the college, plans and policies for their implementation within the vision, mission and strategic direction set by the Trustee Board and/or the responsibilities delegated to the Board of Governors. As a member of college Senior Leadership Team, ensure staff are effectively led and performance managed. Leadership & Management (Assessment) Accountable for ensuring that all learners are assessed inline with the Ambitious College assessment cycle and framework. Accountable for overseeing the collection and analysis of accurate and relevant assessment and progress data to describe the learner cohort in each campus; support evaluation of each campus s performance; work collaboratively with the Head of Curriculum to inform the personalisation of the curriculum for individual learners; and to support research work in relation to learner outcomes. Analyse learner progress data to identify any trends or patterns between different groups and ensure that effective interventions are put in place to narrow the gaps between performance. 4 Accountable for ensuring that the clinical supervision of Behaviour Analysts in Ambitious College is well planned, quality assured and meets with BACB requirements. Accountable in collaboration with the manager of Allied Health for ensuring that the clinical supervision of Allied Health Professionals is well planned, quality assured and meeting with the expected standards of professional bodies. Accountable for providing direct clinical supervision to Behaviour Analysts and those working towards qualification. Accountable for line managing Behaviour Analysts and Allied Health professionals within Ambitious College. Leadership and Management (Behaviour and Safety) Team Teach: Accountable for staff holding relevant and required certification; attendance at regular refresher training (Basic and Advanced as required); and for leading, monitoring, reviewing and updating practice in a way that is compliant with Ambitious College policies in relation to Positive Handling and the reporting and recording of any restrictive physical intervention to external agencies including Team Teach/ProAct SCIP. Responsible for the accurate reporting and recording of all matters relating to Health and Safety and learners welfare to the Governing Body and relevant sub-committees. Responsible for developing a college wide Positive Behaviour Support approach for the design of behaviour support plans. Accountable for ensuring that all positive behaviour support plans are a result of functional behavioural assessments, have good contextual fit, take into account the mental capacity act and deprivation of liberty standards and are effective for learners. Personal and Professional Development Keep abreast of research findings and ensure that research is integrated into Behaviour Analytic practice across the college. Ensure that Ambitious about Autism contributes to the national / international evidence-base in relevant professional fields. To undertake any other appropriate responsibilities and duties that may arise.

5 PERSON SPECIFICATION Role and Band Competencies Education Levels & Qualifications 1. Relevant first degree (psychology/education) 2. MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis 3. BCBA 4. BCBA approved clinical supervisor Essential Desirable Specific Knowledge, Experience & Technical Skills 5. Experience of leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team 6. Experience of effectively developing and managing budgets 7. Extensive post BCBA qualification experience of directing behaviour analytic provision for adolescents and young adults with complex autism and learning disability 8. Able to demonstrate excellent Behaviour Analytic practice and able to translate this into excellent programming for learners with complex autism, including effective intervention in particularly complex cases 9. Able to demonstrate advanced training in data collection and analysis and to able to apply this to various settings 10. Extensive theoretical and technological experience of Behaviour Analysis, including the person centred application of Positive Behaviour Support 11. Extensive experience of undertaking complex Functional Assessments 12. Experience of providing high quality training to a range of audiences (ABA, PBS, Autism) 13. Experience of providing BCBA clinical fieldwork supervision for those working towards qualification. 14. Understanding of the adult service and further education sector for young people with complex needs. 15. Able to demonstrate an understanding and personal commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults 16. Experience of strategic planning and project management 17.
