3 About us At Education Development Trust, we transform lives by improving education around the world. Whether we are working with governments on national educational reform or directly with clusters of schools to effect positive change and a lot in between, our specialist knowledge and international experience means we design and deliver effective, far-reaching, sustainable education solutions tailored to the local context. As a not-for-profit organisation, we invest annually from surpluses in our programme of educational research; it matters to us that policymakers make informed decisions and that teachers benefit from the latest best practice. Our research differentiates us from our competitors, but most importantly underpins the design and direction of our work. Values We are a values-led organisation and our four values of excellence, integrity, accountability and collaboration are evidenced in everything that we do and are embodied in our people. As we are driven by our mission and committed to our values, there are some key aspects our clients can be assured of when working with Education Development Trust: We change lives for the better, providing millions of beneficiaries with enhanced opportunities to learn and to thrive. We make best global practice local, using both our understanding of what works and deep knowledge of the contexts where we work We attract and retain exceptional staff and prioritise a positive and safe working environment. 3

4 What we do From our wellspring of knowledge and practice in education improvement internationally, we are able to operate on both long- and short-term programmes and projects, offering design and delivery and calling on multiple disciplines in the process. Our work spans contracts which have been running for many years as loyal preferred partners to government, to the very short-term in technical assistance interventions. We design and deliver programmes as well as offer consultancy services. We also own four independent schools and we are the sponsor of a 16 school multi-academy trust in the UK. School system reform A large topic which requires skilled input from multiple disciplines. From school improvement initiatives to the shaping of government education policy on a national scale, Education Development Trust knows how to effect change within school systems. Our global expertise has been proven over the last 50 years as we continue to deliver transformational programmes that leave a lasting legacy of positive change. We work with governments and others in charge of determining the content and direction of education in diverse countries, each with their own specific context and needs. Our work in system reform ranges from the strategic short- or longer-term consultancy right through to onthe-ground design and delivery of programmes. We identify what action governments need to take or, alternatively, respond directly to a pre-determined brief to deliver specific contractual programmes. In some markets, we work directly with groups of schools to deliver a unique approach to improving educational outcomes through a framework of school-to-school collaboration. 4

5 School inspection and evaluation Education Development Trust is a world authority on school inspection and evaluation having inspected schools around the world for more than 20 years. We work hand in hand with governments to design and implement effective inspections frameworks that reflect the local context and demands. In the UK, we have collaborated with Ofsted, the Office for Standards in Education, Children s Services and Skills in England, since its establishment in 1993 and in the Middle East, we set up Dubai s very first inspections framework with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and reviewed school quality in both private and government schools on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). English language teaching Governments rely on Education Development Trust s expertise to deliver English language teaching programmes as part of their drive to improve the life chances of their students. We recruit, develop and support qualified English-speaking teachers in particular in Brunei, the Middle East and India. Recruiting expert English-speaking qualified teachers has been part of what we do for our 50 years to date, and is, in fact, where we began. We also work with governments to offer transformational training and improvement programmes which help build capacity of local English language teachers. Careers and employability services Education Development Trust provides services that bridge the gap between education, training and employment. We have been a leading careers service provider in the UK for over 20 years and have a successful track record of managing programmes delivering careers, employment and skills support. We work with national and local agencies, as well as with schools directly, to deliver high quality careers support to young people and adults. In both the management and delivery of our services we combine our extensive professional knowledge and experience with up-to-date technology and a joined-up approach with local stakeholders to not only engage with customers, but also to maximise impact for them. 5

6 Our research A key differentiator for Education Development Trust is our research, freely available to all on our website, and funded from our surplus each year. Our in-house research team oversees a programme of work on carefully chosen subjects of interest to policymakers and practitioners in international markets. We often work together with like-minded research partners, such as Oxford University and UNICEF. While our research can never have all the answers, it is important to us that we keep asking the right questions, and that we give wide access to findings to help keep the education debate informed. Our schools Education Development Trust runs four high performing private schools three in the UK and one in South Africa. While all very different in character, with unique identities as befits their strong role in their local communities, all our schools share deep-rooted common values and principles. Our private schools are an integral part of what we do as an organisation and we are committed to ensuring their future success, in line with the values and mission of Education Development Trust. Education Development Trust is the sponsor of CfBT Schools Trust, a multi-academy trust of 11 primary and five secondary academies and free schools. The two trusts are separate organisations legally and organisationally but share the same values and moral purpose. 6
