2 Position Details Faculty/Professional Support Service Division/Section/Unit Job Title Vacancy No Grade Hours of Work Contract Duration (Perm/Fixed Term) Reports To (Job Title) Responsible For (Job Title) Health and Safety Head o f Health and Safety Recruitment Team Senior staff Hours required to carry out the role Permanent Director of HR Health and Safety Specialists & Health and Safety Co-ordinator Principal Accountabilities Providing University wide oversight in respect to all health and safety matters. You will be responsible for developing strategy and acting as lead for a tranformational change in the way that the health and safety is managed across the University. Your responsibilities will include keeping up to date with current and changing legislation to ensure policies and procedures are up to date and being adhered to. The post holder will work closely with key professional Services colleagues such as the University Fire Officer, Asbestos Management lead, Technical Services and Estates personnel to support the introduction and ongoing management of compliance across a wide range of risk areas. You will further develop and implement systems to identify and highlight any issues which may present a health and safety risk to the University and ensure the people responsible for managing those risks are both informed and competent to do so. In addition you will identify training needs within the University and, in conjunction with colleagues create/deliver appropriate training to ensure staff are kept up to date and have the relevant training for their roles Key Tasks Providing dedicated proactive and professional leadership and advice to members of the University Executive Group and senior management.

Ensuring that the University Health and Safety Risk Register is regularly reviewed and coaching is provided to the Pro-Vice Chancellors/Faculty Pro-Vice Chancellors and senior managers to manage the risk. Ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to promote an effective health and safety culture. Ensuring the University is compliant with all applicable Health and Safety Regulations. Responsible for the development and implementation of the University Health and Safety Plan. Leading the University health and safety policies and procedures review process. Ensuring policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and remain appropriate and fit for purpose, and comply with legislative requirements. Ensuring that effective communications, implementation, inspection and audit systems are in place. Ensuring that the appropriate training is provided to members of the University who have significant responsibilities in the management of health and safety. Supporting faculties and departments with the ongoing management of health and safety, particularly in higher risk areas. Providing reports on health and safety performance and compliance to the Board of Governors, the University Executive Group, faculty executive groups and senior leadership teams. Further develop and coach the health and safety team in order that they continue to support the ongoing tranformation and enhancments to health and safety Management across the University. Possess excellent leadership and management skills, able to motivate and develop the team to deliver to a high performance. Have the ability to produce high quality reports and correspondence, providing the appropriate supportive conclusions and recommendations. General & Specialist Knowledge Have a proven track record of providing strategic direction to a Health and Safety function by effectively engaging with a diverse, multi-site organisation. Education & Training Hold a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, alongside Chartered membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).

5 Person Specification Continued... Relevant Experience Demonstrate experience of developing, managing and improving organisation-wide safety management systems and assurance frameworks. Be a highly experienced and visible Health and Safety leader with an enviable track record of achievement. Have previous experience of overall accountability for the design and implementation of a highly effective Health and Safety training programme. Evidence of a creative approach to identifying and capitalising on opportunities, with a flair for communicating ideas to deliver results. Experience of managing or contributing to large projects, which have significant organisation-wide implications. End of document
