2 Position Summary and Requirements YMCA Swim Teachers are an essential component in the delivery of the LEAP YMCA Aquatics Program. Swim Teachers are required to maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of YMCA aquatic programs, educational trends and industry development. Key Accountabilities Key Tasks Operations Commitment to YMCA LEAP beliefs and philosophy in relation to aquatic programs Interpret each persons goals to plan an aquatics session to meet their needs Follow YMCA lesson plans and program format as trained Construct and implement session plans that promote individual goals; combining stroke development with water safety and enhancing the developmental assets aspect of YMCA programs Structures and designs sessions with appropriate format, with activities that enhance student interaction and collaboration Perform other duties as required and comply with reasonable directions Display interest, enthusiasm, patience, respect and innovation to students and peers Challenges and develops students values and attitudes Responsible for the safety and supervision of students in your classes Liaise with supervisor YMCA Aquatic Coordinator and / or Teacher in Charge around participant feedback, assessments and goal progression Take a collaborative approach to ensuring participants meet program outcomes and continually progress through their goals Commitment to YMCA philosophy in relation to aquatic programs; educational and teaching standards Display interest, enthusiasm, patience, respect and innovation to students and peers Challenges and develops participants values and attitudes Complies with relevant procedures for shift covers / replacements and communicates accordingly Measures Daily checklist, student attendance records and case notes completed every shift 90% attednace to all quarterly evacuation training sessions 90% attendance to staff meetings and professional development training sessions 100% of internal communications and procedures read and acknowledged. Incident reports completed as per the YMCA incident management policy within 24 hours of incident Punctual to the commencement of shifts Track student s skills/progression and notifying the Teacher in charge when ready for an assessment

3 Must be capable to think quickly to adapt session format to meet the needs of all participants at any given time Liaise with other Swimming Teachers, Teacher In Charge and Aquatics Director/Coordinator/Team Leader in a timely and professional manner with any concerns that may arise from the program Team player with the ability to help out and cover shifts where possible Understands the unique needs of families and can respond appropriately Teaches and models effective problem solving and conflict negotiation Ensure open and clear communication with supervisor YMCA Aquatics Director/Coordinator and/or Teacher In Charge around student progression to be conveyed to parents Listens and is objective and non-judgemental Uses respectful language at all times whilst communicating with students and parents Exhibits concern and interest for the feelings and experiences of others Exhibits personal values and behaviour that instils trust in the students and parents Initiates and nurtures group interaction Teaches and models effective problem solving and conflict negotiation Work within a team environment to ensure safe, timely and effective set up / lesson delivery & pack up Keep records of student s daily attendance via Teacher tick sheets for accurate statistical information Be professionally presented at all times that exceptional customer service is provided at all times Handle customer complaints and requests in a timely fashion as per YMCA South Australia policy Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the Centre s Emergency Action Plan Perform other duties as required and comply with reasonable direction Advise supervisor in a timely manner 100% of the time if unable to work a rostered shift Follow YMCA Lesson Plan Outlines. Follow weekly focus points during lessons. Ensure necessary qualifications are kept up to date and that YMCA is provided with a current copy prior to expiry. Essential Requirements You will be required to: Understand and work within the guidelines of the YMCA South Australia - Safeguarding Children / Young People and other Vulnerable People Policy

4 Familiarise yourself with all policies, procedures, work practices, and maintain currency of knowledge in relation to Work Health and Safety Take responsibility for own observance of safe work practices and safe work environment and undertake no actions or omissions, which will adversely affect the health and safety of other persons Conform to all reasonable instructions or policies given by management in relation to work, health and safety Cooperate with YMCA South Australia with respect to legislative work health and safety requirements and relevant YMCA Health and Safety Policies Be responsible and accountable for adhering to the requirements of the Equal Opportunity Act Providing an inclusive workplace environment through adherence to the YMCA s Access and Inclusion Policy Inform your Manager of any issues or concerns that may affect your ability to safely perform your role in order to enable the YMCA to meet its obligations for providing a healthy and safe working environment for all employees Key Relationships Position Reports to: Aquatics Coordinator at the YMCA site Direct Reports: N/A Key Internal Relationships: Key External Relationships: Centre Leadership Team YMCA South Australia Staff Swim School Parents & Students School Teachers Personal Attributes Creates a fun and exciting work atmosphere that is driven, hardworking and goal orientated Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Creates a welcoming atmosphere by engaging all people in a friendly and approachable manner Works as part of a team and shows professionalism and respect Punctual in both attendance on shift and attendance at staff meetings Immediately responds to customers needs or concerns Recognizes and acts on the need for support and will accept and delegate responsibility when required Flexible to work early mornings, evenings and weekends Is a role model; demonstrates and teaches positive values like caring, honesty, respect and responsibility Maintain high standards of presentation and personal grooming Qualifications / Certifications AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety or Swim Australia Teacher accreditation HLTAID001 Perform CPR or equivalent Certificate of completion for Responding to Abuse and Neglect (RAN) training National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) Certificate must be within one (1) year from date of issue, otherwise must renew check prior to commencement Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) Child-Related Employment Screening Check AUSTSWIM Teacher of Aquatics Access and Inclusion
