3 Job Description Job Title: Responsible to: Responsible for: Artistic Director, Artistic Director of Dundee Rep Theatre in their capacity as Joint Chief Executive Officer of Dundee Rep and Limited Rehearsal Director (line manager), Dancers (line manager) and Head of Creative Learning, (line manager) The Organisation Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre Limited is one legal organisation which comprises two artistic companies: Scottish Dance Theatre and Dundee Rep Theatre. Both artistic companies have Artistic Directors, with the Artistic Director of Dundee Rep Theatre also being Joint CEO. There is also an Executive Director/Joint CEO supporting the work of both companies. Both artistic companies are based out of Dundee Rep and sit at the cultural heart of Scotland and the City of Dundee. Founded in 1939, the Rep building is a centre of creative energy, a space for engagement with a wide range of art forms, whilst also playing a lead role in arts education and engagement across the city and beyond. Proud of its Scottish roots, the Organisation looks outwards, producing dance and theatre of national and international significance, for and with a diverse audience. Alongside the two artistic companies, the Organisation comprises Rep Engage, Scottish Dance Theatre Creative Learning, a Trading Company and support departments such as Operations and Finance. Dundee Rep Ensemble Established in 1999, Dundee Rep Ensemble is approaching its 20th anniversary year as a resident company of actors, the only company of its kind in Scotland. The Dundee Rep Ensemble has created several award-winning productions, earning a reputation as one of the UK s foremost theatre companies, presenting work in Dundee, across Scotland, the UK and internationally. With a focus on the ensemble model, productions include innovative re-imaginings of classics, new commissions and the development of new music theatre and interdisciplinary, cross art-form storytelling. The Rep has collaborated with many of the UK's leading theatre companies including the Barbican, the Young Vic, National Theatre of Scotland, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Traverse Theatre Company, Paines Plough, Macrobert Arts Centre, Birmingham Rep, the Tron Theatre, Citizen s Theatre and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, performing in all of Scotland s major venues. 7 Rep Engage The work of Rep Engage is about engaging people through a range of creative processes which aim to inspire and empower them, artistically and personally. Rep Engage has four programme strands which are all underpinned by a fundamental belief that the work they do has the capacity to change and enrich lives. Other areas Also contained within the umbrella of Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre Limited are the following departments: Operations; Marketing; Premises; Box Office; Finance; HR; Development; and Rep Restaurant. At the heart of the Dundee Rep and Limited s vision is the belief that artistic and creative experience of the highest quality should be open and available to all. The organisation seeks to share a diverse programme of theatre and dance across Dundee and beyond by taking its work out of the theatre and into the wider geographical and cultural world. 8 Job Purpose To work closely with Dundee Rep Artistic Director & Joint CEO and the Executive Director & Joint CEO to achieve the Organisation s vision and deliver on the plans and commitments for to the highest possible level. The Artistic Director of takes the lead on the artistic development, quality and success of the performing dance company as well as providing senior leadership for creative learning in dance. The post is a member of the Senior Leadership Team of Dundee Rep and Limited. Key Responsibilities LEADERSHIP To provide the vision and leadership for the performing company. To provide senior leadership in the creative learning work of. Inspire confidence in internally, with funders and with other external stakeholders. Together with the Joint CEOs, support the strategic development of the company and its role in Scotland, the UK and internationally. Together with the Joint CEOs, develop the ethos of there being one organisation encompassing two art forms. HIGH QUALITY WORK Planning and delivery of high quality contemporary dance programmes, commissions and tours. To curate a world class programme of choreographic commissions, that both pushes the boundaries of the form but has strong market appeal in local, national and international terms. To directly choreograph on the company, creating high quality works as part of the overall curated programme. Ensuring the highest possible levels of quality are achieved in all performances created and staged. To lead an ensemble of high calibre dancers ensuring optimum levels of professional development, fitness and professional discipline are maintained at all times. This will include injury prevention and a strategy for treatment where required. To renew this ensemble when required through a robust programme of auditions. To lead, mentor and inspire the Rehearsal Director in the delivery of their role and their day-to-day management of the dancers and the studio during both creation and rehearsal. To ensure the Rehearsal Director has access to ongoing professional development opportunities. To tour with the company as required, both nationally and internationally. Actively support the Head of Creative Learning with the planning and initiation of creative learning programmes.

9 PARTNERSHIPS AND PROFILE To play a leading role in maintaining the profile of through the development of key stakeholder relationships and ensuring the work maintains a strong media profile. To initiate partnerships on a local, national and international basis that support the ambitions of the company and extend the reach and possibilities of the work. To work closely with colleagues, including the Development Department, to support initiatives that raise funds for the Organisation. This might include collaborating on a grant application, attending an event for donors or presenting the work of the company to stakeholders or sponsors. To be highly visible within the Scottish and UK dance sectors advocating on behalf of and Dundee Rep, while seeking to develop ways for the company to lead and enable collective practice. MANAGEMENT To work closely with managers to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of all activities. Contributing to strategic planning documents (e.g. the Business Plan), funding updates, and management board papers as required. With the Executive Director & Joint CEO, Director of Finance & HR and General Manager of, ensure programmes of work that are planned and delivered are within existing financial plans and budgets. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team of Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre Limited, to attend meetings, including Board meetings, as required and take responsibilities/share duties as required (for example hosting visiting dance companies or stakeholders to the theatre). Alongside the Joint CEOs, actively promote and ensure implementation of Dundee Rep and Limited s Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion Plan. The list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and the Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre may be required to perform additional duties as required by the Joint CEOs. >>>

10 Person Specification Significant experience (at least 5 years) of leadership in the dance sector. A genuine flair for working collaboratively with artists and other stakeholders to make things happen. Proven programme of high quality choreographic work. Demonstrable experience of curating dance programmes and/or initiating dance projects. Strategic, with a high level of articulacy, communication skills and political sensitivity. A passion for dance and the performing arts. Evidence of a strong track record of effective management. Skilled team manager with good interpersonal skills. Experience of and demonstrable success in partnership building, including those which develop income streams. Job Details The salary will be up to 45,000 depending on experience. Salary will be reviewed annually in April. The notice period will be six months either side (with a twelve-month probationary period from the start of employment during which the notice period is one month either side). After three months, the organisation will make a 3% contribution per month to the designated pension provider provided that you match the contribution with your own contribution of not less than 4% net of your basic earnings per month. Holiday entitlement is 29 days per annum, rising after three years completed service. Together with the Joint CEOs this post is required to opt-out from Working Time Regulations, working the hours required to fulfil the role.
