2 ABOUT US Job title: Head of Events, Programming and Venues Salary: 33,432-38,738 Duration of contract: Permanent Working hours: Full time. We will consider requests for fleible working. You do not have fied hours of work and have the professional autonomy to work fleibly as required to meet the demands of the job. BS8 1LN Responsible to: Director of Business Development, Marketing and Communications Responsible for: Events and Technical team Summary We re looking for someone with the passion to lead Bristol SU s Events, Programming and Venues teams to ensure maimum impact for students. As a member of the management team and leader of a service area you will be responsible for shaping and delivering outstanding services working with and through a team of dedicated staff and student leaders. You will be responsible for ensuring that the activities and strategies within your area contribute towards the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the organisation and to deliver against Bristol SU s charitable objects. 4 JOB DESCRIPTION Purpose of the post Lead and shape Bristol SU s Events, Programming and Venues activity to ensure we deliver maimum impact for students. Main duties and responsibilities 1. Leadership Motivate and inspire your Service Area through strong leadership; coaching and developing staff to achieve their full potential. Accountable for the performance of their Service Area including; translation of organisational strategy into annual planning, budget setting, risk and compliance management. Lead key cross organisation projects ensuring their success. Develop and implement key operational strategies. Lead on key partnerships, particularly University of Bristol, to ensure effective outcomes for students. Build a culture of collaborative working across the organisation, ensuring high quality service for internal and eternal customers. Identifying and responding to risks, challenges and opportunities, encouraging innovation and seeking best practice from within and outside the sector. Support the development of an open, engaged and learning culture with Bristol SU s values at its core. Positively engaging student leadership in decision making and direction setting. Be an active and engaged member of Bristol SU s management team, collectively responsible for organisational success, achieving our vision and living our values. 2. Leading the Events Programme Creatively shape Bristol SU s programme to engage as many students as possible in The Richmond Building and beyond. Programme events that are relevant, diverse, high quality and in line with our values. Ensure students groups are supported to deliver high quality and appealing events. Shape the Events programme strategically to improve perceptions of Bristol SU, improve brand recognition and to position Bristol SU as central to students time at university. Ensure market research and insight. Commission and deliver events including large scale events, welcome period (events and fair) and other annual celebrations, including building partnerships and managing eternal agencies and third parties. 3. Business Development Create, develop and establish new income streams and opportunities including student events, eternal hires & conferencing, relationship with other venues and more. Work with the Marketing and Communications Team to develop effective marketing strategies for the Events Programme and business development activity.

Venue operations, technical support and premises strategy With the Director of Business Development, Marketing & Communication, shape the long-term strategy and development plans for SU buildings with the aim of becoming destinations of choice. Ensuring the SU s buildings are fit for purpose for all internal and eternal customers and meet student/customer need. Establish effective operating practices and manage relationships with key University departments (e.g. facilities management, property, maintenance, services). Ensuring ecellent technical and facilities support for internal & eternal customers, events and venues. 5. Health and Safety Management Leading and ensuring ecellent H&S practices for Bristol SU s use of building and venues. Leading and ensuring ecellent H&S practices in all of Bristol SU s events programme. To comply with all Bristol SU Health and Safety guidelines To take personal responsibility for Health and Safety of yourself and those around you 6. Management responsibilities Manage all direct line reports through objective setting, 121s and appraisals and performance management in line with the Performance Framework. Identify and nurture potential talent, supporting our learning culture through personal and professional development. Demonstrate positive leadership through championing Bristol SU values in all behaviours and work. 7. Other Undertake such other tasks as may be necessary in order to achieve the vision, mission and values of Bristol SU Comply with all Bristol SU Health and Safety guidelines Take personal responsibility for Health and Safety of yourself and those around you. The nature of the post will, at times, require additional commitment over and above normal office hours. Payment for these hours is incorporated in the salary offered. 6 ABOUT YOU Person Specification Qualifications Management qualification or comparable eperience equivalent to ILM Level 5. Eperience Eperience of developing successful events, events programmes and engaging new audiences. Eperience of managing stakeholders with diverse perspectives and building strong relationships for the benefit of the organisation. Eperience of delegated budgetary responsibility, financial planning, reporting and analysis. Eperience of working as part of a leadership team. Skills Well-developed leadership skills and emotional intelligence. Well-developed influencing, persuading and communication skills. Ability to innovate, seek out and realise new opportunities and inspire new approaches. Financially/commercially aware and capable of planning, analysing, reporting and taking appropriate actions.
