1 January 2019 Dear Applicant Please find attached an application pack for the position of Development Manager at Sherman Theatre. Many thanks for your interest in this role. This is a key role within the organisation, central to helping us to deliver on our ambition to create and present theatre which excites audiences in Cardiff and beyond, and simply put, ensures our activities are great, not good. These are exciting times for the company. Under the artistic leadership of Rachel O Riordan we have seen a transformation of Sherman Theatre. Over the past 5 years the company has gone from strength to strength, increasing audiences, developing artists, building strong relationships with our communities and making and presenting work of excellence for our audiences. With recent awards including Regional Theatre of the Year Award (The Stage Awards 2018), the Oliver Award for Outstanding Achievement in Theatre for Killology, in a co-production with Royal Court Theatre, and the Best New Play Award (UK Theatre Awards 2015) for Gary Owen s Iphigenia in Splott, the Theatre is recognised across the UK as a significant producing house. As we enter 2019, we are looking ahead to a new chapter for the Sherman as we say farewell to Rachel O Riordan, who goes on to become the Artistic Director of Lyric Hammersmith, and we will be welcoming a new Artistic Director. If we are to really meet our artistic ambitions we need to significantly increase our income from across the fundraising mix (individuals, trusts and foundations, other grant funders, and corporates). We have a raft of opportunities which we wish to develop into high quality activity. Through successful fundraising we will sustain and grow. Whilst this role will help support our creative work to progress through the production process to reach one of our stages, this role goes well beyond this. Funding enables us to support the commissioning of new writing and the development of artistic talent however it also has wider community benefits. Funding allows us to go into schools and support educational attainment, and it affords us the privilege of working with some of the most socially excluded and disadvantaged communities across south Wales, helping to transform lives. This is a varied role, and the successful applicant will work alongside the various teams at Sherman Theatre, as well as with a wide portfolio of external partners and stakeholders to help us realise our ambitions.

2 We are looking for someone who is equally as comfortable writing a compelling grant application as they are brokering a sponsorship deal with a corporate partner. Whilst externally facing work is critical, the successful applicant must also be able to forge links with colleagues inside the organisation, and ensure that our funding activities are appropriately managed. You will be used to working to targets, and be able to demonstrate an innovative and pro-active approach to income generation. Whilst prior experience is important, we recognise that not many potential applicants will have experience across all of the fundraising and artistic elements in this job description. As such, of equal importance to us is finding a candidate who shares our ambition, our excitement, and our desire to be great, not good. To apply for the post, please download the application form, cover sheet and equal opportunities monitoring form from our website: and send them to us at recruitment@shermantheatre.co.uk. Please note that, in line with our environmental policy, we are only handling applications electronically. The closing date is noon on 8 February We ll confirm receipt of your application by . We hope to hold interviews on Thursday 21 February. Please let us know, on the application cover sheet, whether you would be available for interview on that date so that we can be aware, in plenty of time, if we may need to make alternative arrangements for any short-listed candidates. If you need more information before you apply, please contact us by ing Sophie Hughes at recruitment@shermantheatre.co.uk Thank you for your time in respect of this application and we really do look forward to hearing from you, and exploring how your skills, experiences and passion will make a real difference to our work.
