1 CITY OF BROOKLYN PARK invites applications for the position of: Recreation Supervisor - Programming, Youth, Family & Events SALARY: OPENING DATE: 02/11/19 CLOSING DATE: POSITION SUMMARY: $ $45.32 Hourly $5, $7, Monthly $69, $94, Annually 02/25/19 11:59 PM Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for a highly motivated and team-oriented individual who has a desire to make a difference in Brooklyn Park. This key leadership position works in the recreation division management team determining program outcomes and facility needs at the Zanewood Recreation Center. This division assesses youth and recreation program needs in the community and implements programs. This position will work independently under the general supervision of the Zanewood Program & Facility Coordinator and management of the Youth Services Manager of the City of Brooklyn Park to develop innovative programs focused on quality, partnerships, and service to our community. This position is responsible for planning, implementing and supervising a wide variety of community recreation programs. In order to maintain a high standard of quality this professional supervises and leads program specialists, part time and seasonal staff in the areas of child/teens/youth development, youth enrichment and family events. This professional must be in charge of evaluating and effectiveness of programs, scheduling to implement programs for youth, teens and families at the Zanewood Recreation Center in partnership with the school district and community education. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assess community recreation program needs, research new strategies for meeting those needs and implement programs Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate programs and services Recruit, hire, train and supervise part time and seasonal staff Supervise program specialists for K- 5 programs and summer camps Supervise teen program specialists and staff to support on site programming that includes direct service, relationship building and behavior management. Plan, direct, implement and supervise events at Zanewood Recreation Center and out in community Identify potential risks in advance, analyze them and take steps to reduce liability for city and ensure safety of participants and visitors.

2 Effectively respond and train staff to respond to crisis intervention needs with youth and families at Zanewood Recreation Center Work with contract vendors to deliver specialty services and programs Coordinate facility maintenance needs with facility coordinators and maintenance supervisors Facilitate meetings for various work groups Prepare program budgets and monitor expenditures of funds for program budgets Seek alternative revenue sources Engage community by creating volunteer leadership opportunities Write materials to promote and market programs and events and increase participation in recreation programs Develop and implement program quality evaluations to reach youth outcomes and submit reports Determining the appropriate programs and make adjustments accordingly to program offerings to grow and develop Solve customer problems, complaints to their satisfaction and within policy guidelines Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with city and department staff, schools, community groups and residents MINIMUM AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education Bachelor's degree in Human/Services, Community Social Work, Education or Recreation and Parks or related field Experience Five (5) years of experience organizing community recreation programs for youth, teens and families which includes: o Five (5) years of experience supervising employees, including recruiting, hiring and conducting evaluations o Three (3) years of experience with budget preparation and management of program budgets and funds o One (1) year experience working with community organizations, youth clubs, social services agencies o One (1) year experience working with diverse age and socioeconomic clients Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

3 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience preparing written materials to promote and market programs and services Experience developing and implementing recreation programs in a municipal setting Experience utilizing and coordinating the service of volunteers and partners Ability to orally communicate effectively within all levels of the organization and write clear and concise reports, and written documents. Ability to write, develop and create materials to promote recreation programs on social media Must be an enthusiastic, creative and flexible leader who can manage multiple duties. Clear and well-defined vision for, and commitment to, the unique role Youth Services plays in community building. Experience working in group situations to generate programming ideas, collaborate efficiently, and solve problems collectively. Proven ability to influence others, and build positive, effective working relationships. Success in recruiting talented and culturally diverse individuals to deliver desired programs. Desired Qualifications Ability to professionally exhibit cultural sensitivity, patience, and understanding. Ability to relate to and work with individuals representing a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction Previous experience working with diverse populations and youth in challenging life situations Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali or Vietnamese language(s) Background Check The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title.
