1 FAST TRACK STRATEGIC PLANNING AND LEADERSHIP How Companies, Government, NGOs and Entrepreneurs Can Rapidly Conduct Strategic Planning and Leadership Skills (2 days programme) Speaker profile This workshop will be conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norsaidatul Akmar Mazelan Overview Companies, government, NGOs and entrepreneurs are facing shrinking economic resources and demands for greater efficiency. Textbook strategic planning and management processes are intricate endeavors and therefore deter many businesses, governmental units and bureaucracies from engaging in the process. Furthermore, many public servants believe that strategic management is designed for the private sector and consequently, do not engage in multi-year planning. Course content The author facilitated many strategic planning processes using a technique called Fast Track Strategic Planning. It engages key stakeholders in an 8 hour session to create a practical strategic plan. Two case studies are presented to demonstrate the positive and measurable results of Fast Track. The training s process can serve as a template for government bureaucracies and NGOs to improve their efficiency and effectiveness. This program is highly interactive. Participants will have many opportunities to apply the information they are learning. The objective of this workshop is to develop a solid understanding of the strategic planning process and the inherent risk associated with it and the techniques of their management skills. This workshop will enhance participants skills in understanding strategic management and planning. Who should attend? 2 Programme Day One: Management and Leadership: The Foundation to Transform Your Organization Describe the differences between management and leadership. Outline key leadership competencies. Discuss how Strategic Thinking Models affect your self-image, view of your staff, customers and colleagues and the roles of leaders and followers. Define motivation: How a leader can learn to motivate. Assess the value of conflict in an organization. Evaluate what is Groupthink and how can it corrode a high performing organization. Analyze how to build high performing teams. Describe Power: What it is, How to Get it, How to Use it and How to Lose it. Outline the stages of Team Development. Examine techniques to develop high performing teams. Assess your current leadership style using the Behavioral Style Indicator. Learn how to encourage creativity and innovation in your organization. Day 2: How Can I Create, Deploy and Monitor a Strategic Plan? Assess and analyze a variety of strategies ranging from ancient Chinese strategy to comprehending the Chaos/Order/Destruction/Chaos/Order Cycle. How to Use Time as a decisive asset. Learn to use Fast Track Strategic Planning process to transform your agency. Format 2 Days Course (minimum 5 participants) Handouts on topics discussed. DR NOR had 22 years of holding key positions in Ministry of Finance, Multimedia Development Corporation and Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad and now a business owner of her own consulting firm, popularly known as Think Plus Consulting Sdn Bhd, and have been the Managing Director for 10 years since incorporation in DR NOR has extensive experiences on understanding strategic management issues and has blended the art of delivering hands-on business knowledge with international and local cases, and have help design the learning on strategic management into the setting up of new vision, mission, internal-external assessments models and grand strategy, which are the core skills that are needed by the 21 st Century Strategic Leaders. Dr. NOR s working experiences involve the activities of budgeting and financial control, investment strategies as well as developing start-ups, relating to the field of investment policies, financial incentives, venture capital, international financing and entrepreneurships. She was the Vice President of Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad, a company

5 incorporated in 2002 that is 100 percent owned by the Ministry of Finance. DR NOR s role include project monitoring, project audit assessment and due diligence exercise. DR NOR s talent knowledge is in entrepreneurship, nurturing and spawning start-ups in business, plus helping master planners for international policies and other national projects in setting up incubators and nurturing the business communities. Her career enriches when she was the Head of the Strategic Unit of the Multimedia Development Corporation for 5 years since 1996, developing the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) incentives for companies and investors. She also organized many world standard business forums and seminars, provide strategic papers to government, companies and also to the public on issues relating tax incentives, legal, human resource, economic investments, SME support and financing. She provides awareness to the public on the impact of ICT through TV Talk Shows, Radio interviews, press release and magazines. DR NOR has published books on the Multimedia Super Corridor where she compiled all the speeches of the Malaysian Prime Minister. She is also the author of two other books entitled: Multimedia Super Corridor - Journey to Excellence in Institutions of Higher Learning and "Corporate Management Styles Of Malaysian Companies In Managing Their Subsidiaries".
