1 Position Description: Head Coach Coaching Provide leadership and direction to UQBC members and the UQBC coaching panel; Design and implement training programs in collaboration with the other UQBC coaches to provide a consistent framework for UQBC athletes to prepare them appropriately for competition Develop, with coordination and consultation with other UQBC coaches and athletes were appropriate, the UQBC training blueprint, consistent and complementary to the RA model; Deliver timely and systematic programs for the different groups; Record and track athlete and squad progress Ensure appropriate coaching coverage across all programs in the club through the coordination of the coaching panel. Organise fortnightly meetings with coaching panel to discuss club programs, crew progress all coaching and operational matters of the club. Organise structure for these meetings and records of minutes and key tasks. Athlete management to ensure UQBC athletes supported in their programs and their progress through age-groups. Ensure appropriate systems are in place to retain adequately performing UQBC athletes and also for the succession planning of those athletes under performing. Work with and develop volunteer coaches to ensure that UQBC s technique and training principles are delivered to all programs operating in the club Attend regular quarterly technical seminars to athletes and coaches Provide opportunities for racing at local, interstate and international regattas according to the UQBC Regatta Calendar and submit regatta reports concerning his/her crews performance to UQBC and supporting team performance at regattas. Deliver a wide and varied competition schedule appropriate to the needs of the membership Submit regatta reports timely for internal review and external publication using social media and the website Set competition targets at the start of the season (results based targets) and review progress towards these

2 Provide loading plans and coordination to ensure equipment is loaded and unloaded effectively before and after regattas Transport equipment on the UQBC trailers using UQBC supplied vehicles to regattas and training camps. Be available for coaching duties at international and state level as supported by UQBC holding regular National and State Team coaching positions. supporting National and State Team rowing initiatives such as training days, meetings and selection events. 1. UQBC ranked as top Queensland club at Australian National Rowing Championships 2. More UQBC members on state and national teams than any other Queensland club 3. Responsibility of the on and off water coaching of the Senior squads 4. Report to UQBC Board 5. Report to RA for Club Performance Program Recruitment Recruiting is an essential part of meeting KPI 1 & 2 mentioned above. The Head Coach is to drive althete recruitment in areas directed by UQBC from time to time. Recruitment of athletes is the primary responsibility of the Head Coach. The Head Coach should utilise the coaching team in delivering the process. Recruitment also includes recruitment of volunteer coaches. Implement athlete, Talent Identification and Development procedures and manage volunteer coaches. Work with all coaches and club members to improve the club culture associated with UQBC With the assistance of the Youth Coach, Talent Identification and Development, significantly contribute to a club handbook for distribution to members. The handbook should include fees, desirable behaviours and all the elements of the UQBC club culture including a simple yearly plan. Ensure the retention of all performing open competitive rowers presently engaged in the high performance program. Page 2

Recruit male open junior competitive athletes and male open senior competitive athletes to the club to ensure that the men's high performance program achieves equal representation and critical mass as that of the present women's program. 2. The Head Coach will ensure open and clear communications between coaching staff and athletes and between each Coach in the delivery of training programs and all important "messaging" relevant to the effective operation of the club, recruitment and high performance program. Administration A quantity of administration will be necessary to assist with delivery of coaching and recruitment as set out above. Be heavily involved with planning and preparation for UQBC trips to regattas and training camps. Submit athlete data to Rowing Queensland and Rowing Australia for nominated UQBC athletes aspiring to State or National Team memberships. This includes required monitoring and any other data as required by the NRCE. Athletes should be de-briefed following tests and know what is required to improve. Action will include: accurate and timely execution of tests and submission of complete data to associated bodies. reviewing data and previous targets with athletes and setting new targets to progress. Be responsible for managing UQBC racing crews using the ROMS (or similar) database. Action will include: Timely and accurate entry of crews into the ROMS (or similar) system. Facilitating transfers between clubs Communicating with the Treasurer concerning rowers with membership debts and seat fees Advise UQBC about the management of the fleet and associated equipment. In particular, the Head Coach will: Plan sales within and purchases for the UQBC boat fleet, oar sets and land training equipment, subject to approval by UQBC. Maintain an up to date Asset Register by cooperating with UQ Sport requirements Order capital equipment items with express permission from UQBC. Page 3

4 Through the Captain of Boats, allocate boats to club members in compliance with UQBC policy. Action will include: accurate records of boat allocations publicly displayed discussion of athlete suitability with coaches concerned when allocating boats Ensure that the boatsheds and equipment contained with them are maintained to a high standard with accurate documentation Timely servicing of outboard engines, trailers and motor vehicles Effective organisation of boat and oar racks Process insurance claims through to satisfactory resolution, including Keeping records of accidents and establishing culpability when appropriate, or presenting details to Board where a resolution cannot be found Working with the FO to ensure those culpable pay the required costs in accordance with UQBC policy Liaising with the University insurers Tasking boat builder or repair service providers as appropriate Ensure that UQBC equipment is safe and operational by: booking regular services for boat engines, trailers, ergometer/rowing machines and club vehicles Ensuring the boat fleet is kept in excellent condition by: Keeping a well stocked inventory of spare parts available to club members Repairing damaged boats punctually where appropriate, or arranging for professional repairs to be undertaken The club is able to carry out its activities in an orderly, safe and organised manner Ongoing liaison with coaches and captain of boats to ensure smooth operating of the above criteria and utilisation of resources. 5 Club Duties Club duties are important ways of fostering a unique team culture at UQBC and empowering athletes to be able to be self organized and self motivated, taking care of equipment and growing pride in UQBC. Support club social events by attending the Annual Dinner, Boat Christenings, and other major club events. Assist UQBC coaches and members with the orderly running of the boat shed by: reinforcing good hygiene habits at the Boat Shed. ensuring that members know how to store equipment in allocated spaces in the clubhouse. Encouraging the orderly and appropriate use of the changing rooms Ensuring that members can carry out minor repairs on equipment, and follow the correct protocol immediately if major repairs are required Scope for work outside the points outlined above Whilst the primary function of the Head Coach is to provide coaching to athletes, other tasks may be necessary at certain times of the year. There will be scope to operate outside the action points above with agreement or instruction from UQBC. Responsibility to report The Head Coach will report to UQBC on all matters mentioned above. The reporting structure will include Annual appraisal Attendance in person at UQBC board meetings. Head Coaches reports to be provided at least five days before each board meeting. Page 5
