Reporting to the CEO, the Director of HR/OD will be responsible for shaping the direction of the College to create an organisation where people want to work, want to stay and want to be part of training excellent students with the skills that Nottingham and Nottinghamshire needs for the future. 5 Director of HR/OD 75,000 per annum Reporting to the CEO, the Director of HR/OD will strategically influence and help to drive this new College to deliver towards the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire economic growth strategy. Nottingham College The Business Our aim is to fundamentally change the landscape of Further Education in the greater Nottingham conurbation to meet the needs of over 5000 employers and to fill the skills gap. We will provide this service through innovative and effective training and education delivered by a first-class team committed to our goals. When established, Nottingham College expects to attract 40,000 students, employ 2000 staff and reach an annual turnover of around 90 million. Portfolio of Responsibilities: The portfolio and opportunities within this role include the strategic lead for HR and OD, Professional Development and Equality, Diversity and Inclusiveness. Key Responsibilities: Determine and deliver against an HR/OD Strategy; Act as professional advisor to the CEO on the design of a HR/OD journey that stands Nottingham College out from its competitors; Present and be able to respond to challenge at Board meetings on strategic level HR/OD performance; Design a streamlined single College HR/OD model for implementation across all campuses; Design and drive change management programmes that achieve a single ethos and efficient organisation; Lead on the development of a new framework of pay and conditions; Support senior colleagues to execute change management programmes and to be influencers of cultural change; Work collaboratively with senior colleagues to provide constructive challenge and holding senior colleagues to account; Engage with multiple internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and deliver solutions that meet the College s strategic aims; Influence the employee relations culture in which the HR staff and senior leaders work in partnership with trade union representatives to address challenges, manage change or resolve areas of dispute, effectively and locally; Lead the coordination of the College s work on equality, diversity and inclusion ensuring that action plans are devised and implemented, that key staff are trained and that policy initiatives are communicated effectively; Promote the College s commitment to equality of opportunity in all aspects of the role and ensure that behaviours and attitudes of staff and service delivery reflect appropriate professional standards; Ensure that the College has equitable and competitive remuneration and benefits arrangements to attract, motivate and retain a highly skilled and motivated workforce; Lead the HR Department to develop appropriate policies, systems and processes, which ensure legal compliance and are implemented consistently and effectively across the College; Maintain the effective planning, forecasting, monitoring and management of the HR/OD budget; Strategic lead for CPD/Professional Development; Ensure the delivery of development programmes and initiatives to support the enhancement of staff skill sets and leadership and management competencies required to achieve the College s strategic objectives; Shape and lead the HR/OD team; Oversee the continuing professional development and experience/skill set of the HR/OD team. As this is a new role, the precise details of the duties and responsibilities will be developed with the post holder. Corporate responsibilities: To contribute to the strategic leadership of the College and shaping the vision; As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, to take collective responsibility with colleagues for delivering strategic objectives; To ensure the responsibilities of the post are carried out in a way that reflects the standards, vision and values of the College; To set, monitor and deliver on key performance indicators across the College, aiming to deliver continuous improvement; To inspire and motivate staff, developing and managing team members (direct and indirect) effectively and enabling them to give of their best; To deliver value for money and manage resources effectively and efficiently, ensuring that targets (financial and non-financial) are met; To promote the College to employers, sector bodies, schools and the local community, developing effective partnerships with employers, the funding agencies and other representative bodies; To proactively promote Safeguarding practice, EDI and Health and Safety.

6 Director of HR/OD Person Specification Qualifications Professional, academic or technical qualifications at degree level or above CIPD qualified & Member of CIPD Experience & Skills Extensive knowledge of HR/OD, theory and practice Significant and sustained experience as a HR professional at a requisite level of seniority (Director or Deputy Director). Proven success of managing complex transformation change programmes, preferably within a merger situation Proven management and leadership skills at a senior level both strategic and operational The ability to motivate, inspire and influence a large and diverse workforce by example and persuasion The ability to develop and project a positive image of the College through personal, written and oral skills An ability to recognise, develop and effectively promote new opportunities for the College Strong, evidenced project management experience A proven track record of advancing equality, diversity and inclusion A level of numeracy that enables effective analysis of remuneration trends and pay benchmarking, auditing, modelling and forecasting Track record of delivering first class recruitment and retention strategies Experience of managing financial budgets Ability to analyse data and use management information systems Personal Attributes A strategic thinker Perceptive, with excellent judgement and highly developed emotional intelligence Great people skills and a track record in change management Outstanding commercial awareness and insight An ability to work in uncertainty Self-reliant and resilient Professional and value led with integrity, inclusivity and respect for diversity Motivation to work in an educational environment, and an ability to form personal boundaries, with young people and vulnerable adults Willingness to use authority and maintain student discipline in an educational environment.
