1 ESOL Skills fr Life RQF Level: Entry 3 Assessr Bklet - Speaking and Listening Sample Versin INSTRUCTIONS FOR CENTRES: This assessment takes apprximately 25 minutes t cmplete. Each task can be undertaken separately Tasks 2 and 3 need t be audi recrded

2 Guidelines t Assessr: Task 1 The script delivery shuld be apprpriate t the Candidate level at Entry 2 the Assessr shuld speak clearly at natural speed. If a Candidate requires reasnable adjustments, please refer t the specific guidelines prvided by Gatehuse Awards. T enable the Candidate t perfrm t the maximum f their ability, the Assessr shuld maintain a friendly and relaxed apprach at all times. If the Candidate asks any questins at the beginning f any f the tasks, answer them as fully and clearly as pssible A maximum f 12 Candidates can take Task 1 at the same time, prvided that they cannt see each ther s scripts The Assessr is nly respnsible fr intrducing the task. Once the recrding is started, further instructins t Candidates, as well as any required pauses, are included in the recrding Ensure that the distance between the Candidates is at least 1.25 metres, and that the Candidates d nt talk t each ther r lk at each ther s answers during this task Task 2 & 3 Task 2 The Assessr shuld nt ech r rephrase Candidates answers. The Assessr shuld nt crrect Candidates mistakes The Assessr shuld nt prvide vcabulary t the Candidate The Assessr shuld keep their wn input t a minimum, instead they shuld give Candidates the pprtunity t speak and finish their sentences. The Assessr shuld nt give any indicatin f a Candidate s perfrmance, fr example fine, gd r that s great. Thank yu is the preferred respnse. The rle play has been designed in such a way that the Assessr shuld be able t fllw the script thrughut the task. If, hwever, a Candidate prvides a respnse that falls utside the predicted scenari, the Assessr shuld use their wn initiative t bring the cnversatin back t the intended scenari, using language apprpriate t the level. It is imprtant t ensure that the same number f turns specified by the script are elicited frm the Candidate as part f this task. Task 3 There shuld be 2 Candidates and the Assessr participating in this task The Assessr shuld ensure that the Candidates adhere t the guideline times by firstly mnitring this using a silent clck r stpwatch. If the Candidates significantly fall shrt r exceed the stated time, the Assessr shuld prmpt them gently t either cntinue r plitely end the task at an apprpriate mment. The Assessr shuld engage bth Candidates in the discussin and mve it frward where necessary, ensuring that the Candidates d nt substantially deviate frm the tpic If there is a prnunced difference between the Candidates levels f ability, the Assessr must participate in the discussin fully t ensure that neither Candidate is disadvantaged. If this is the case, the guide time can be exceeded Page 2
