1 2019 Public Interest Public Service Job Fair (PIPS) Registration Instructions The PIPS Career Fair will take place on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Temple University Center City Campus, 1515 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA. Bidding for the Greater Philadelphia Area Law Schools (GPALS) 2019 Public Interest / Public Service (PIPS) Career Fair is will close on Thursday, January 3, Students will be required to submit a resume for each bid and, if specifically requested by the employer, a cover letter. Login/Password After reviewing the information below, please copy & paste the following link into your browser: To register, click on the button to the right that says "Sign Up." Please fill out the requested information. GPALS Symplicity (which is NOT the same as your law school's Symplicity) will then send a link so that can set your password. You can then login using the address you supplied as your username and whatever you have selected as password. If you would like to reset your password, do so by going into the my account section and then clicking on the "Change Password" tab. Profile Please take a moment to check and complete your profile. Make sure your address is correct on the main page and that you have the proper date of graduation and class year entered on the academic information page - you should check carefully that your class year (1L, 2L or 3L) is listed correctly, particularly if you are a joint degree student or are returning from a leave of absence. Documents/Resumes Go to the "Documents" tab to upload your resume or resumes and set your default resume. You should upload your default resume FIRST and then any variations you are using for particular employers. This is done using the "Add New" tab. You must upload a resume prior to bidding. Please make sure this resume is updated and accurate. Whichever resume you have attached to your bids (either by default or by specific selection in the 'review' box) is the one that employers will be able to view online, and that will be sent to the employers for which you bid.

2 Employers may also ask you to submit your cover letter, transcript, writing sample or other materials through Symplicity. You are strongly urged to submit a cover letter where requested at the time of bidding, along with the other documents requested if they are available to you. If you do not have writing samples, transcripts, or references ready at the time of bidding (employers understand that 1Ls in particular may not have these items yet), you may upload them after any interview is scheduled through January 22nd, or submit them in person at your interview. To upload these documents for submission at the time of your bid, please follow the instructions for adding a resume. While any documentation included in the bid for selected candidates will be provided to employers in advance of the interview, you should plan to bring several copies of all requested materials (which may include resumes, cover letters, unofficial transcripts and writing samples) with you to your interview. Job Fairs Tab: Bidding Go to the "Job Fairs" tab in the left-hand column and click on "Sessions." You will find and should select the GPALS Public Interest Public Service (PIPS) Job Fair 2019 listed as a Session. After selecting the proper session, click search. You are allowed a maximum of ten (10) bids. Review the employers and think about the priority of your interests. Your #1 bid should be your first choice employer. To bid, select a number from the drop down menu to the right of each employer. This takes you to the employer information page. Your default resume will automatically be included in the list of documents for your bid on the right. If you have uploaded specific resumes for specific employers, you can change resumes using the drop-down menu. You can also select your previously uploaded additional documents requested by the employer, such as cover letters, from the drop down menus on the right. When you are ready, click apply on the right and then you have "bid" for that employer. (You can also add additional requested documents later, by selecting the review button from the employers list, adding them to your bid, and clicking update. ) If you would like to delete a bid, go back to the drop down menu, scroll up above the number 1 and select no bid. To insert a bid between existing bids, say, between 3 and 4, just select a new '4' bid and the rest of your bids will be re-ordered. Once the bidding period is over (January 3 at 11:59 PM) the bids you have selected will be submitted along with your resume and all supporting documents, and a schedule will be created for you. You may print a screenshot of the bidding page as your record. Employers receive all applications in one batch after the bidding deadline, so there is no advantage to applying early. However, please leave plenty of time to submit your bids to avoid technical difficulties at the last minute.

3 The employers will have the ability to pre-select students for up to 25% of their schedules. After employers have selected their candidates, the remaining slots will be processed through the lottery. After adding the pre-select students, the scheduler will then process all of the number one bids first in random order. The number two bids will be processed in random order first for those who did not get their number one bid and then for those that did not get their number two bid. This process will continue until all of the bids have been processed. Searching for Employers You must select the proper session first, which is PUBLIC INTEREST/PUBLIC SERVICE (PIPS) JOB FAIR You can sort by keyword. If you would like to see if a particular employer/organization is attending, you can put any part of their name in the keyword field and click search and it will find the employer or tell you that no records are found. You can also use the keyword search field to find employers by a particular city. To go back to the main list, click clear and you will get the full list in alphabetical order by organization again. Once you have entered some or all of your bids, you may sort the list to include only those organizations for whom you have entered a bid. Approximate Number of Slots This feature has been added to help you assess your chances of getting onto a particular schedule based on the availability of interviews allocated to your graduation year (Class of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 (evening students)). This is not an exact science, since organizations set up their interview schedules in a number of different ways. You should not worry too much about the details of this, but rather use this field in deciding where to rank one organization vs. another. The number of interview slots is the actual number available for your class (for example, if you are Class of 2021 you will see the Class of 2021 slots). # of Bids Used/Available As you use your bids, the System will count them for you, and if you select two bids that could only result in being placed on an employer schedule once, you will see your number of allowed bids increase, and a notation will be added that you have used 'xx on related offices.' Researching Employers We recommend you research employers by going directly to their website. However, the following functions allow you to access limited information about the employer, available positions, and hiring criteria on Symplicity, if the employer has submitted it.

4 Review/Information Buttons - The organization website address is provided on the system if you click on the "review" button. (If you notice any missing websites, please let us know.) You will also find position/organization information on this page if submitted by the employer. If an organization has specific hiring criteria or preferences, it may appear here as well. If there is any information there for a particular employer, the main list will have an "i" button next to the review button. Organization Name Highlighted - Some employers may wish to include further information about their organization in their profile. If any such information has been entered, the name of the organization on the employer list will become a link. Clicking on the link will bring you to the employer profile under the "Employers" tab of the system. Once you finish reviewing the employer information there, you will have to click on the "Job Fairs" tab to get back to the bidding system. Cancellation Period You will be notified of your initial schedule on Wednesday, January 16th. Career Development will communicate with you when your preliminary schedules are ready for review on the system. You will be able to cancel interviews for any or no reason from January 16th at 9:00 AM - January 17th at 11:59 PM. After this date, NO cancellations are permitted without first obtaining approval from Career Development. Alternate Sign-Ups Students selected by employers as alternates who did not otherwise receive an interview through the lottery have the opportunity to sign up for any open slots on the employer schedule on January 18 th from 9:00 AM 11:59 PM. Open Slots Sign-Ups Open Slots that remain available can be signed up for in the Open Signup period of January 19 th at 9:00 AM January 22nd at 11:59 PM.
