In this regard, the role is a key integrator of market needs and assurance programmes, regulatory policy, exemplary environmental and people management, alongside world best animal production systems to enable world best farming businesses. The GM Farming Excellence oversees implementation of a sector Research & Development ( R&D ) strategy by facilitating buy-in and integration amongst investors to optimise red meat farmer production, profit and confidence to farm. This is a pivotal role in looking ahead for farmers to ensure they have the right tools and knowledge to address current and emerging on-farm opportunities and challenges. Taking a customer driven approach to product and service development and delivery, the GM Farming Excellence will bring people, industry and businesses together to identify the big on-farm issues and develop solutions to meet those needs, and deliver these in a form that can be easily picked up and transferred to farmers. responsible for further developing B+LNZ s Future Farm to a world-class programme, that demonstrates future-proofed farm systems. These farm systems will connect to market, and strengthen the industry s social licence while demonstrating farm excellence across people, environment, animal production, business management and profitability. the Future Farm programme will engage the wider farming community, and build confidence for the future of farming in New Zealand.

2 This role will work hand-in-hand with the regional leadership team, extension managers and Red Meat Profit Partnership (RMPP) to adopt chosen RMPP programmes to continuously improve and implement a world class extension system, resulting in increased farmer engagement, and the confidence for change which positively impacts their profitability. The GM Farming Excellence ensures that B+LNZ s investment and influence in the Sector Capability area is applied in a way that yields the best results for farmers. Across all these programmes this position will build and drive partnerships to grow the effectiveness of B+LNZ s efforts.

Organisational Strategy & Implementation As a member of the Senior Executive Team ( SET ) it is your responsibility to collectively develop and lead B+LNZ s organisational strategy and create operational plans that support its success. 2. Leadership & Team Management responsible for effectively managing all aspects of the Farming Excellence program and providing leadership and development to direct reports and teams within the Innovation program. THE JOBHOLDER IS SUCCESSFUL WHEN A continuous improvement programme is in place for all areas of the Farming Excellence team. B+LNZ s strategy is well defined, clearly articulated and understood by Farmers and staff, and operational plans are developed that support the strategy and lead to operational excellence in programme delivery. Employees are committed to the strategy, are equipped to deliver on it and understand the part they play in its success. A strategy and operational plan for Farming Excellence activity is developed that integrates and supports the B+LNZ strategy and; synergies, collaboration and efficiencies with other areas of the organisation are realised. Operations plans for the Farming Excellence team are in place, clearly defined and milestones and targets are met. A continuous improvement programme is in place for all areas of the Farming Excellence team. Authentic leadership that mirrors the organisations values is demonstrated to the organisation. The Farming Excellence team is led through a culture of communication, coaching and creating opportunity, and have a customer-focused, team culture consistent with the organisation s values. A product design and project management approach is applied rigorously and consistently across all business activities. Direct reports have the required skills and enablers, and access to professional development that enhances their skills and ability to achieve their team s objectives. The Farming Excellence team actively engage with the performance management framework to ensure goal achievement and performance outcomes are defined are measured.

4 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 3. Red Meat Sector Research Strategy responsible for assessing the needs, issues and opportunities and implementing a sector Research Strategy to ensure B+LNZ focuses their research programme on the things that will make the most impact to farmers. 4. Extension Systems Design and Development responsible for designing and implementing innovative, world class, best practice extension programmes to drive on farm performance. 5. Product Development responsible for providing insights, tools, information and systems to build better farm businesses. THE JOBHOLDER IS SUCCESSFUL WHEN Information and knowledge, needs, issues and opportunities are identified and taken through a robust prioritisation process to ensure B+LNZ focuses on the right things to achieve maximum return on farmer levy investment. A research strategy is developed that is owned by all stakeholders, investment is focused in the right areas, and tangible results are delivered back to farmers. Farmers and B+LNZ are aligned on the most important issues for focus and these are reflected in B+LNZ s strategic and operational plans. The Future Farms project successfully demonstrates farming systems and technologies that draws on research outputs, and catalyses farmer confidence for the future. All research projects and designed and managed to ensure farmer useable outputs A rigorous and efficient customer-centred insight process is implemented to identify and understand key issues facing farmers and identify their needs. The Future Farms Programme & RMPP Action Networks are effectively linked to regional and national extension systems. Regional GM s are supported to implement a best-practice extension programme which has regional and national complementarity. Extension programmes increase in effectiveness and efficiency by drawing on best practice from RMPP and balancing regional needs and ownership with national programmes. Extension programmes are best in class and achieve wide adoption, impact and recognition for B+LNZ. Work with RMPP and regional teams to ensure that chosen RMPP programmes are seamlessly and effectively integrated into B+LNZ Alongside the Chief Insight Officer (CIO) and other internal and external networks, insights are identified that create potential for new or improved products and services. Insights are rapidly investigated, prioritised, and the feasibility of developing associated products or services ascertained. A design-led pipeline to market process is developed and implemented that seamlessly links farmer needs, research, product or service development, extension design and delivery. Products and services are delivered in a way that ensures high uptake by farmers or other stakeholders and shows tangible benefits.

5 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 6. Sector Capability Program responsible for strategic management of B+LNZ s investment and influence in the sector capability and people portfolio. 7. Stakeholder Partnerships & Collaboration Across all accountabilities and Farming Excellence programmes, the GM Farming Excellence will build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships to ensure the greatest return on levy investment. 8. Reporting & Financial Management responsible for the effective and cost efficient management of the Farming Excellence program budget. 9. Health & Safety ( H&S ) The GM Farming Excellence will proactively lead by example in all areas of health, safety and wellness for the organisation and industry. THE JOBHOLDER IS SUCCESSFUL WHEN The critical people -issues that face farmer levy payers are identified and understood. A clear strategy and priorities for investment is supported by the Board and farmers. B+LNZ s investment and influence delivers the best tangible impact for farmers. Outcomes of the RMPP Sector Capability project are integrated in to the B+LNZ programme where possible and feasible. Farmers openly recognise the positive impact the people and capability activities have on their business. New partnerships that enhance B+LNZ s potential to deliver returns and outcomes for levy payers are identified and developed. Partnerships are effectively managed and, where opportunities lie, new partnerships are formed to increase the effectiveness of products and services design and delivery. Board reporting and updates are clearly and honestly presented so the Board are award of progress, achievements, issues and risks. The Farming Excellence budget is managed effectively; activity sits within budget, efficiencies are made where possible, material variances are accounted for and reporting is complete within agreed time frames. All budget managers within the Farming Excellence team are held to account for their own budgets as above. A H&S strategy and supporting initiatives are in place that aligns the organisations H&S vision and the organisations operational plans with operational excellence, legislative requirements and best practice. All contracts under Farming Excellence programme have the required health and safety components and partners meet their health and safety obligations and do not expose the organisation to risk. People within the Farming Excellence team have the skills and training they need to do their job safely. Takes responsibility for own health, safety and wellbeing, is proactive in own actions to keep self and others safe and cooperates with local workplace safety management practices, policies and procedures that support a healthy, safe and well culture. No accidents or incidents are directly attributed to the employee and where able, all hazards are immediately responded to.

As a member of the SET you will be required to work outside these hours as necessary to achieve business outcomes. 7 PERSON SPECIFICATION: GENERAL MANAGER FARMING EXCELLENCE Technical Knowledge + Expertise Strategic foresight on-farm R&D management experience A deep understanding of extension theory and practice plus practical experience in applying best practice farmer extension programmes Track record in partnership development and delivery of industry good activities Farm systems knowledge Education + Expertise A minimum of a bachelor s level tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline related to management, agriculture and/or science, or equivalent extensive professional experience 5 years experience in a senior management position Extensive experience in the agricultural industry with a deep understanding of pastoral farming and farm systems Strategic Ability + Business Insight Experience in working with boards of directors providing professional, accurate, and strategic advice, along with delivering on board decisions and policies. Can anticipate future consequences and trends accurately, has broad knowledge and perspective Can innovate, create and drive breakthrough strategies and plans that show a clear connection between vision and action Committed to collaboration and co-design to deliver new programs and initiatives Keeps up with current and possible future policies, practices, and trends in the organisation and sector.
