2 Senior Health and Safety Manager Wellbeing, Safety and Health, HR Directorate Are you an experienced Health and Safety professional looking for a new challenge? Do you have the ability to lead and support a team in a challenging and ever changing environment? Are you passionate about driving and developing an occupational health and safety management system across a group of Faculties, Schools and Services? Do you have the ability to engage with a wider variety of stakeholders and support the delivery of a varied and responsive health and safety strategy for the University? We are looking to appoint an exceptional safety professional with experience of developing and implementing service strategy and with the ability to lead team members to implement these aims. You will provide effective professional advice and use your previous experience of delivering a safety management system to include training, auditing and the implementation of integrated electronic systems. A flexible and supportive approach will be required. Taking the lead on core service / hub projects, you may also deputise for the Head of Health and Safety in their absence. What does the role entail? As Senior Health and Safety Manager, your main duties will include: Supporting the Head of Health and Safety in the development, maintenance, monitoring and reviewing of the University s Occupational Health and Safety management arrangements; Providing a strategic lead for the Health and Safety Service in line with Service and University strategic plans, supporting strategy development and driving forward a consistent approach across the Hub; Leading the development and updating of specific University health and safety management protocols across a range of topics; Ensuring delivery of an excellent, effective, customer focused and professional health and safety provision within a Hub which includes managing and leading a team of safety professionals;

3 Engaging and establishing strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders; Providing competent, solutions orientated health and safety advice, support and guidance across the Hub and University; Leading aspects of the work of a Hub and providing support to a range of committees and groups; Playing a key role in the design and delivery of the University health and safety training and HASMAP Audit process, and supporting the achievement and maintenance of the University external certification and the transition from OHSAS to ISO These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable / specialist duties may be required consistent with the needs of the post. What will you bring to the role? As Senior Health and Safety Manager, you will have: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent level health and safety qualification; Chartered Membership of IOSH or equivalent Institute; Recent experience as a health and safety specialist in a large and complex organisation with a range of risk scenarios; Extensive up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the UK health and safety regulatory framework and current best practice; Demonstrable skills in managing a team of professionals across a broad range of activities; The ability to lead areas of work and projects, working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve strategic aims and manage challenging deadlines; Strong communication skills, able to influence, work collaboratively, establish and grow effective working relationships in order to achieve results and gain support with a wide range of people both internally and externally; The ability to work in a self-reliant, logical problem solving way, able to work under pressure, identify needs and priorities, set achievable targets and evaluate progress; Commitment to maintaining membership of relevant professional organisations and personal health and safety competence through continuing professional development;

4 Experience of using the Microsoft Office suite of applications. You may also have: A Science Degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience; Experience of dealing with auditing, including an understanding of OHSAS 18001/ ISO45001; Accreditations as an auditor and/or trainer; Experience of working in a research environment or industry.
