1 NOMINATIONS FOR STEERING COMMITTEE 2013 The (MFEC) was established by former Commissioners of the legislatively-mandated Massachusetts Asset Development Commission. It is comprised of not-forprofit organizations, private institutions, government agencies and other entities from across Massachusetts. MFEC is a not-for-profit organization hosted at the Midas Collaborative. The MFEC mission is to mobilize the private, public, not-for-profit, and civic sectors of Massachusetts society to ensure that Commonwealth residents of every age, gender and socio-economic status can pursue meaningful access to high-quality, outcomes-oriented financial education services and wealth-building opportunities. As a member-driven movement, the MFEC s central office and leadership do not form an organization, per se, but an organizing, coordinating and standard-setting body of member-leaders. The MFEC, established in 2009, is taking nominations for up to 7 new 2013 Steering Committee Member positions in the sectors listed below. The Steering Committee members help guide the financial education movement throughout the Commonwealth by promoting the MFEC vision, connecting MFEC to resources, and developing MFEC membership. The Steering Committee will be comprised of not more than twenty (20) members: not-for-profit agencies (5) financial institutions/financial planning organizations, (5) educators (private or public) (5) government/quasi-government agencies (3) independent financial education advocates (2) At this time, MFEC invites you to nominate specific organizations/individuals to serve on the Steering Committee. Steering Committee members are elected each year for two-year or three-year term. Please complete the enclosed nomination form, and return it to MFEC Steering Committee Clerk Patricia Walsh (pwalsh@capecodfive.com) to by November 25, After your nominations are received, the current Steering Committee will contact each individual nominated to determine if they are interested in participating. Only one person per organization will be included on the ballot. Registered MFEC members will then be asked to vote for permanent Steering Committee members. 2 2 P a g e NOMINATIONS FOR STEERING COMMITTEE Instructions Nominations are to be made in five categories: 1) not-for-profit agencies (5) 2) financial institutions/financial planning organizations, (5) 3) educators (private or public) (5) 4) government/quasi-government agencies (3) 5) independent financial education advocates (2) Nominate any organization/individual you think would be appropriate, including your own. If you are interested in nominating an organization or individual that may not be that familiar with the, it is helpful to discuss the nomination with them in advance. Definitions: Non-for-profit agency: A non-profit agency or municipality that has a history of providing financial education curriculum, outreach programs, wealth-building asset resources or other coordinated financial education efforts to citizens of the Commonwealth for the benefit of increasing economic stability. Financial Institution/Financial Planning Organization: A bank, credit union, or financial planning organization that currently provides education financial wellness or resources to customers and non-customers for the benefit of creating a more educated consumer. Educators: Professional or certified educators who provide financial education or asset growth programs or any other meaningful consumer education programs to citizens. Individuals may work in the public school sector, private institutions or other recognized educational programs. A knowledge of the Massachusetts educational frameworks is recommended but not required. Government/Quasi-Government: A statewide government or quasi-government entity that is involved in financial education efforts for the citizens of the Commonwealth. Independent financial education advocates: An individual who advocates for financial wellness, education, literacy, legislation in any capacity. This person can be an independent contractor or work in a volunteer capacity.

5 Independent financial education advocates: All nominees will be contacted to complete a nominee profile and must clearly understand and agree to the commitment required to be part of the Steering Committee. Not all nominees will be accepted to maintain a balance of cross representation of categories and geographic regions. A ballot will be available for all registered MFEC members by mid-december 2013 and an online vote will be conducted. 6 Nomination Application Profile All nominees are requested to complete the Nomination Application Profile to ensure that the Steering Committee membership represents a variety of sectors as well as represents the geographic areas of the Commonwealth. This profile will also be used to match the applicant s objectives with the mission of the MFEC. You may also attach a resume.
