3 WHY ARE THESE POSITIONS ONLY OPEN TO ABORIGINAL AND/OR TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER APPLICANTS? Shell has unique relationships with Traditional Owner groups across it s operating footprint. This includes the Byellee, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang and Tarebilang Bunda people of the Gladstone region. Shell and Pogrammed recognise that these Traditional Owners have historic and enduring affiliations with, and responsibilities for, the lands on which Shell s QGC project operates. This recognition has been reflected in a number of Cultural Heritage Agreements and Indigenous Land Use Agreements which include commitments to economic development opportunities for Traditional Owners and other Indigenous Australians. Shell takes these relationships and commitments seriously, and has a number of initiatives to support Traditional Owners in employment, training and business. This program is one such initiative. The positions will only be open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants. The filling of these positions is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and s 105 of the Anti- Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).
