1 Position Reports to Milk Price & Strategic Projects Manager Business Performance Manager Company Synlait Milk Ltd Date: January 2013 Location 1028 Heslerton Road, Dunsandel, Canterbury Purpose To provide senior financial and analytical support to the Business Performance Manager and other Senior Management focusing on the Milk Price, Milk Procurement and Comparative Analysis of Fonterra and other independent dairy companies, as well as project work orientated towards large construction and funding of these ventures through various means. This is a key strategic position in a rapidly growing and increasingly complex business. Key target & responsibility areas: Benchmarking against Fonterra and other independent dairy companies; Milk price management including analysis and forecasting; Milk procurement commercial support; Large construction projects including capital funding support; Supporting Monthly - BPR including Forecasting and Budgeting for areas of expertise; Special projects work and complex modelling assignments. Key Performance Areas Benchmarking, and Industry and Competitor Analysis Comparing key metrics of Fonterra and other independent dairy companies to Synlait s own performance at least on an interim and annual basis. Developing and maintaining Fonterra industry models which identify trends and performance to measure against Synlait s own performance, eg Notional Producer Models. Incorporating outcomes of the above into reports to management for assistance in determining Synlait s future financial decisions. Milk Price & Strategic Projects Manager PD January 2013 Page 1 of 8

2 Key Performance Areas Milk Price Management and Forecasting Update existing tools for predicting the Fonterra milk price on a monthly basis or when required urgently by management. Regularly update the assumptions within these models and continuously improve on their robustness over time. Keep management informed of modeling outcomes and reasons why Synlait is at a mismatch with Fonterra on milk price inputs, ie butter price, FX, sales profile or mix. Update the forecast milk price for barometer, MMP and ensure assumptions are reported to the relevant people. Manage all milk contracts, perform as inhouse expert on milk price for all contracts, maintain oversight in review of management accounts and forecast. Manage advanced rates updates holding regular meetings and committee signoff. Ensure the Eric Kolver FPL models are managed inhouse. Work on projects related directly to milk price contractual changes, eg fixed price milk contracts, monthly or quarterly milk price contracts. Support milk procurement with analysis and modelling Prepare annual milk component pricing report supporting Milk Supply team. Run the software model and prepare the report for signoff. Maintain analytical information on milk volumes from cubes. Prepare business cases for milk procurement initiatives such as pricing methodology changes etc. Premiums, farm certification, winter milk. 3 Large capital projects financial management Business performance reporting, and forecasting and budgeting Special projects work and complex modelling assignments Compliance/Risk Management Support the actions to get the projects underway. Manage the projects from a financial perspective including funding sources whether by debt or equity. Ensure that excellent processes and controls are in place to manage the projects financially. Be able to report monthly on the status of the projects and if there are any issues. Feed into the forecast process information on milk volume, milk price and GDT prices. Report with commentary on milk price, milk procurement parts of the Monthly BPR. Assist Commercial Manager and Finance Manager in capacity of advice/review on gaining understanding/insight from the milk price function. Ensure appropriate feedback loops are actioned if any errors are found. Assist BPM and Senior Management with ad-hoc projects that require good depth and knowledge of the business. The above projects will be initiated based on priority of how much they improve Business Performance and on agreement with BPM. Comply with all relevant company policies and delegations. Comply with all Quality Assurance/ISO systems. Identify and remedy any health and safety hazards and report any incidents. Remain abreast of current industry related trends, practices and disciplines and undertake regular updates in either competency training or changes in law as required. 7 Qualifications, Skills and Experience Qualifications: Minimum of a University Degree/s in Commerce. CA membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants or similar professional qualification is a prerequisite. Experience: At least 10 years of experience in financial commercial roles. Experience in large multinational corporations will be sought after. Ideally candidate will have experience in manufacturing and/or the dairy industry. Experience with complex untested problems to solve. Skills: High level of excel and financial/business modelling skills. Ability to build models from first principles. Good analytical skills, ability to find the business reasons behind results. Ability to then communicate this to management in a clear and concise manner Can effectively analyse complex financial and operational issues, breaking them down into their component parts. Can combine input from various sources and use such information in the design of operational and financial systems providing information to staff in a form assisting them in achievement of their KPIs. High intelligence and intuitiveness to be able to quickly assess situations and decisively and effectively act. Sound analytical skills and a robust knowledge of financial models. Willingness to make tough calls when necessary. Proven relationship building skills. Strong capability in problem solving and decision making. Well developed interpersonal skills, coaching and mentoring skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
