1 CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, SACRAMENTO DEPARTMENT OF ART 6000 J Street, Sacramento, California Phone: (916) ART GALLERY ATTENDANT or ASSISTANT Gallery Attendants and Assistants are A.S.I. funded positions for the Kadema Hall Galleries- the Raymond Else Gallery & the R.W. Witt Gallery. Several positions are available and a student may choose to work the entire academic year or one semester. Job Description: Gallery Attendants and Assistants monitor the Robert Else Gallery in Kadema Hall. They open and close the galleries, greet visitors to the galleries, make sure works of art are safe and perform light tasks associated with maintaining the good appearance of the gallery. Minimum Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants who have studied art and art history such as ART 1C or its equivalent and other courses in modern or contemporary art. Good communication skills are essential. The applicant must be interested in art and able to talk about art with gallery visitors. Because this position is responsible for opening and closing the gallery, as well as insuring the safety of the art on exhibit, the applicant must be absolutely reliable and always on time. Preferred Qualifications: The applicant should ideally have or be enrolled in course work in art history and/or art. Customer service experience or working with artists is a plus. Familiarity with Sacramento s art galleries and a basic knowledge of different artists, art practices and art historical movements is useful. Hours: Attendants can work up to 20 hours per week. Regular gallery hours are 12:00 p.m. 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, with occasional closures between rotating exhibitions. Pay: $12 - $13.50 per hour depending on experience.
