1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Reports to: General Manager, Operations Department: Operations Classification: PACCT 8 Location: Mildura Current incumbent: Primary objectives Manage the provision of training program services for international students Cultivate International business opportunities for the Institute leading to increased International Student training activity. Lead and oversee the operations of the International Unit with a key focus on compliance with all relevant legislation. Position summary The is responsible for the development and implementation of the SuniTAFE International Student Strategy which will focus on ensuring that SuniTAFE offers key program offerings to attract international students and results in the growth of the International program. The role builds key relationships with agents and local stakeholders to identify opportunities to promote the International study program. The position will also require a detailed knowledge of specific legislation relating to International Training programs and an ability to ensure at all times that the Institute is fully compliant with all such legal requirements. The role has a strong focus on team management and administration and an ability to recognise and address inconsistencies or errors in administrative process and adapt to changes in legislation. Key responsibilities 1. Manage the provision of training program services for international students Develop and implement a financially viable and sustainable International Student Unit strategy Identify key programs for International Delivery. Develop short course and commercial activities. Ensure programs developed and delivered are compliant with industry and training package requirements of regulatory bodies (CRICOS, ASQA, TEQSA)

2 Grow, train and assist the team with administrative and legislative knowledge and ensure all training delivery is current and compliant in respect training programs. Work closely with Business Manager s and teachers to foster acceptance and growth of international student opportunities within business units. 2. Cultivate International business opportunities for the Institute leading to increased International Student training activity. Identify and acting on potential business opportunities being demanded or required by industry Develop and lead Institute s off-shore international activities and partnerships. Building relationships with identified international stakeholders Develop relationships with international partners and industry clients. Represent the Institute in negotiations with external agencies, including industry and community groups, other educational institutions, and government departments. Source funding, partnership delivery opportunities and other innovative opportunities. 3. Lead and oversee the operations of the International Unit with a key focus on compliance with all relevant legislation. Work with unit staff to implement identified change within a positive framework gain staff buy in to new processes and procedures. Continuously improve the student experience relating to student recruitment, retention, completion and overall satisfaction. Improve administrative processes in providing pre-course advice to students and ensuring students are enrolled in the correct activities and can successfully complete their chosen course of study. Lead and manage staff including but not limited to; recruitment, induction, development, discipline, mentoring/coaching, and performance management. Closely monitor and oversee budget targets and KPI s within the international team. Report on compliance requirements and encourage external auditing of team activities to ensure consistent compliance at all levels. 4. Act in accordance with SuniTAFE values Customer Focus, Business Acumen, Integrity and Innovation including: Provides exceptional customer service to all internal and external stakeholders of the Institute and ensures a positive first impression for Institute visitors at all times. Actively participates in all relevant training provided to assist in the implementation of new systems or processes across the Institute. Actively participate in the Institute s annual Workplan and Performance Review process. Participate in all team based activities and meetings within the Business Unit, and attend Education Division and other meetings as required. Complies with OH&S and EEO legislation; and Environmental Sustainability Management by supporting the Institutes relevant Policy, Procedures and standard operating procedures applicable to your role. 2

3 Maintain awareness and comply with the Victorian Government s Child Safe Standards. Ensure vocational qualifications are maintained at an appropriate level and currency to match teaching requirements, teacher /trainer/assessor qualifications meet VRN requirements, and industrial experience currency meets training package requirements. Prepared to undertake further courses of study, annual OH&S, EEO, Cultural Diversity and/or identified mandatory professional development programs or training relevant to the position as necessary. Reports to work as scheduled with a willingness to work flexible hours according to business needs. Demonstrates a willingness to adopt change and new initiatives. Represents the Institute professionally at all times. Completes other allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, but within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification. Actively promotes and encourages a service culture within the team. Communicates any opportunities to improve service delivery and make recommendations on steps to make agreed improvements. Actively encourages and promotes effective communication and strong working relationships within the team / Institute. Actively prevent fraud and corruption. Knowledge, skills and abilities Qualifications & Experience: A qualification in Business Management, International Relations or similar and experience in business development, international relations and team management is required; or suitable combination of lesser qualifications and experience will be accepted. Experience in an educational setting or teaching is an asset. Skills & Abilities An ability to build the profile of the Institute, and to strengthen the viability of the International unit. An understanding of key trends and influences in the VET sector and of resource management issues, including finance, facilities management, Occupational Health & Safety, Equal Opportunity and Industrial Relations. Demonstrated skills in developing business strategies that enable the achievement of the Institute s commercial targets within a sustainable framework. A detailed understanding of developments within the industry and community in areas the department serves as well as the impact of relevant government policy on TAFE activity. 3

As part of its Strategic Plan, the Institute has identified the following economic, social, educational and community drivers: increasing participation in vocational education and training to meet the needs of industry particularly in skills shortage areas; developing strategic partnerships to broaden education and training options for the region industry and their associations, schools, private registered trainings organisations (RTOs) and universities; improving pathways for students from secondary education to vocational education and training to higher education and maximising the Institute s productivity in a contestable market. Key selection criteria Qualifications & Experience: A qualification in Business Management, International Relations or similar and experience in business development, international relations and team management is required; or suitable combination of lesser qualifications and extensive experience will be accepted.
