2 14 24 Learning, Employment and Skills Strategy Our ambition is for all young people in Kent to become better qualified and more employable; to be able to participate and achieve success in education and work based training at least until the age of 18; and to ensure more 18 to 24 year olds can access higher learning or sustained employment that is appropriate to their needs and relevant to the local and national economy.

9 Conclusions 1. A balance between education and work for all young people Combining work and learning is good but needs to be balanced with the needs of education. Consideration of the balance of contact hours / course length and measures to create more small jobs. 2. An Expectation of High Quality Work Experience Policy changes are making this happen e.g Study Programme Many excellent examples exemplified in Not Making The Tea but this kind of collaboration not the norm 3. Employer Leadership and Networks Greater employer ownership and responsibility is needed and therefore needs to be galvanised and channelled. Need for partnerships at a local level between employers, schools and colleges.
