1 The Municipality of Chatham-Kent Arena Facility Operator (part-time) (Technical Professional position) Job Profile / Description Department: Infrastructure & Engineering Services Division: Parks & Open spaces Recreation Facilities Working indoors (arenas/buildings) and outdoors (ground maintenance/pools) in: Dresden, Bothwell, Blenheim, Wallaceburg, Tilbury, Wheatley, Ridgetown, Chatham (3 arenas) Work Environment: indoors mostly indoors Hours of Work: week day hours afternoon hours occasional weekends on call after hours outdoors both indoor and outdoor weekend hours evening hours occasional evenings on call on weekends This position reports to: Supervisor, Facilities Reporting to this position: n/a Position overview The Arena Facility Operator is responsible for coordinating, maintenance/repairs of the area arenas, beaches, campground (Clearville Park Ridgetown only), community halls, indoor pools (Blenheim and Wallaceburg only), outdoor pools, parks, sports fields, etc. About Recreation Facilities: Recreation Facilities is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the various facilities owned by the Municipality including; Arenas, Community Halls/Meeting Rooms, Shelters, Parks, Sport fields, Playgrounds, Pools/Splash Pads, Campgrounds, Boat Launch, Municipal Docks, Lawn Bowling, Tennis Courts, Skateboards Parks, and Beaches. 2 Essential responsibilities: Operate ice resurfacer and/or other specialized equipment, power tools, cleaning and safety equipment, including ice maintenance Janitorial, building, pool, and park duties General building maintenance, including building repairs (painting, etc.) Maintain specialized equipment/tools (i.e. electric motors, pumps, tractors, etc.) Setting up/taking down equipment for special events Assume responsibility for the safe operation of the facility during a scheduled shift Follow established preventive maintenance repairs Maintain facility log books as required Other responsibilities: n/a Technical professional responsibilities: Team Work Actively contribute to a strong, high-performing team Support team, divisional, departmental and organizational goals, directions and business plans Contribute to a positive, healthy and safe work environment according to all appropriate legislation and regulations Assist with team projects and initiatives as requested Communication Effectively communicate with internal and external partners Actively receive and share information required to perform at a high level Problem Solving Evaluate, monitor and assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and resolve the problem, or make recommendations to the Supervisor Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks; follow standard processes and notify the Supervisor when necessary Service Delivery Follow standard procedures to meet or exceed the expectations of internal and external customers Strive for continuous improvement Meet or exceed agreed upon performance standards Consistently produce high quality work Follow standard policies, procedures and practices Effectively organize and plan work to consistently meet goals address priorities Information Management Report, record and track information according to policies and procedures *see last page for full list of competencies Essential qualifications: Ability to demonstrate Chatham-Kent s Core Values and Competencies through a combination of education and experience: Possess or in the process of obtaining a secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent education (i.e. GED certificate) General custodial work experience (changing light bulbs, sweeping, cleaning rest rooms, waste removal, windows, woodwork, etc.) Previous experience with custodial/janitorial duties and building maintenance preferred Basic computer skills Call-in positions have no guaranteed hours, but may be considered for future seasonal/parttime positions when they become available (for up to 24 hours per week); hours for a call-in position may be during the day, evening or weekends Other qualifications: Experience/knowledge of arena facility operations (including ice resurface machine experience, i.e. Zamboni, etc.) an asset Arena Facility Operator (part-time) 2018 Job Profile/Description Page 2 of 5

3 Previous maintenance experience in electrical, plumbing, heating, and ventilation systems would be an asset Certifications/memberships/licenses: Current standard First Aid/CPR certificate (preferred or must obtain upon employment) Related certificates or training in the following would be an asset: CIT, Playground Certification, CPO Class "B" refrigeration ticket Automated External Defibrillators (AED) training Propane handling certificate Certified ice technician (CIT) certificate Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate Certified Parks Inspector (CPI) certificate Confined space certificate Chain saw certificate Technical professional qualifications: Team Work Demonstrated commitment to working safely Problem Solving Ability to react quickly and follow standard processes in emergencies Service Delivery Demonstrated commitment to learning and development Knowledge of standard policies, procedures and practices Information Management Solid literacy skills *see last page for full list of competencies Occupational safety responsibilities: The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) clearly articulates worker responsibilities (reference Sections 28 of the OHSA and Safety Policy #HS-001, Individual Responsibilities ).
