Managing Your Project and Its Stakeholders This course provides a foundation for individuals entering the field of project management by describing how projects, and their life cycles, fit within the goals, structure, and culture of an organization. As part of a case study, participants produce a project charter and stakeholder register and learn how these key outputs of project initiation are used later in the project. Participants also create a communications management plan, based on an analysis of stakeholder needs and expectations. This course is aligned with the Virtual Instructor Led (Six 3-hour sessions) Traditional Classroom (3 days) Planning Project Scope and Schedule This course provides participants with training and practice in two key tasks in project planning: defining project scope and developing a project schedule. As part of a case study, participants analyze project requirements to produce a WBS (work breakdown structure) that defines what the project deliverables will include. Later in the course, the WBS becomes a key input as participants develop a project schedule. Participants learn that scope and schedule, while important, must be balanced with other competing project constraints. This course is Virtual Instructor Led (Four 3-hour sessions) Traditional Classroom (2 days) Managing Project Resources, Cost, and Quality The course includes project planning and management techniques from four Project Management Knowledge Areas: Human Resources, Cost, Procurement, and Quality. As part of a case study, participants develop a human resource management plan that later becomes an input in the development of a timephased budget. As they develop the budget, participants practice the use of various cost estimating techniques, while working within time, scope, and other constraints. As part of procurement management, participants develop criteria for evaluating seller proposals. Finally, participants practice quality management techniques by developing quality metrics, observing a process, and developing and implementing a process improvement plan. This course is Virtual Instructor Led (Six 3-hour sessions) Traditional Classroom (3 days) Controlling Project Change and Risk The course begins by covering risk planning, then focuses on monitoring and control from a variety of perspectives, including scope, time, cost, communications, and risk. As part of a case study, participants develop a risk register and response plan. Then, participants respond to scenarios in which status reports indicate variances from the project plan. Participants must analyze variances in scope, cost, and schedule and then prepare change requests to bring the project back under control. In a simulated change control process, change requests are evaluated for approval or rejection based on an impact assessment. Participants then learn how to update project baselines to reflect change control decisions.
