DEFINITION The Master Programme is a bar chart that identifies a project s major work items and their planned durations. It identifies the critical path activities. 2. PURPOSE The purpose of the Master Programme is to show graphically the timing of all the contributory elements within the project. It should clearly demonstrate the interaction between them, and draw out critical links and relationships. Refer to template T11a, Generic Master Programme 3. PROCEDURE 3.1 PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The Project Management Team, normally the Estates Development Manager (EDM) will establish, develop and set out the programme structure to show start and finish for the projects key activities. The User s expectations must be included within this. It is essential that the EDM establishes all the key dates from the Project Board that may affect the programme, e.g. term start, exam dates, graduations, or other dates that must be met. Using this document, the Design Team will develop a more detailed design programme as work proceeds, but without changing the key milestones. 3.2 RESPONSIBILITY The Project Management team will be responsible for the programme and any changes or recommendations made by the Design Team must be agreed with them. 3.3 FORMAT The Master Programme will be designed to follow the RIBA Plan of Work, in the form of a Gantt chart (using Microsoft Project). It will show key activities under the following major sub sections: Preparation, i.e. enabling works and decant works Design Procurement Page 1 of 2

2 4. OUTPUT Construction Fit-out Occupation Completed Master Programme document. NOTE: The Master Programme must remain an active and live document for the duration of the project lifecycle, revised / redrafted and updated as necessary. Page 2 of 2
