8 8 / HARVEY NASH MANIFESTO Our strength as a company comes through: 1. our service lines There is a unique strength in offering three services all centred on talent. Our clients gain as we can work with them in so many ways to help them develop their talent and leaders all from a single global supplier. Professional Recruitment gives the Group its geographical footprint, size and essential critical mass. Our particular expertise and heritage in technology recruitment has been an important long-term success. Executive Search & Leadership Consulting gives the Group a high-level aspiration brand as well as senior relationships. It is also a door opener into new geographies and for the development of high-end leadership consultancy services. Offshoring provides highly strategic relationships as well as predictable, long-term revenue. Outsourcing has a high potential for growth and large long-term deals that bring new talent and clients to the Group. Having three service lines also allows us to cross-sell as well as weather the ups and downs in each individual market sector. No other professional services company has these three service lines to such a depth, and each service line directly gains from this unique position. Harvey Nash also gains because we can develop long-term partnerships with clients with predictable revenues. 2. our size and geographic coverage Our size, coverage and plc status allow us to retain/develop larger clients who are looking for stability and international reach in their suppliers. This is a growing trend; increasingly, international clients look to work with suppliers who are similarly international. Talent is also increasingly a global resource and to be a market leader it is important to have international coverage. Our Group s size and structure allow us to compete with the large global firms in our industry as well as local boutiques. 3. our culture and values Our culture has made the Harvey Nash Group what it is today. It is based on our professionalism, our passion, our entrepreneurial and innovative approach and our collegiate and inclusive way of working. Our entrepreneurial and innovative approach has allowed us to create new service lines, to take calculated risks, and to innovate constantly what we do and how we communicate. At the same time our professionalism has meant we are a true professional services firm, operating to higher standards and procedures than our competitors. We operate with honesty and integrity and we strive to add value in everything we do. That is why we attract some of the world s most respected companies as our clients, and are able to acquire companies that are leaders in their field. This also sets a high standard for how we, as leaders and employees in Harvey Nash, act and develop. We need to set the bar high for ourselves to be able to constantly develop our clients, our talent and our business. Finally, our passion underpins everything we do; it drives our anything is possible approach and makes us go the extra mile to delight our clients and candidates. It is the combination of professionalism and a personal approach with true passion to help and develop that makes us more interesting to work with, and for, than our competitors. Our culture and values are actually a combination of dual characteristics: professional but personal, structured but creative, planned but opportunistic, strategic but pragmatic, entrepreneurial but organised, collegiate but individualistic. 4. our strong financial management Harvey Nash is financially sound. We have invested considerable effort in ensuring our balance sheet is strong and working capital investment kept to a minimum. Also key to our strategy has been diversifying our revenue streams across multiple geographies and service lines, so as a Group we are less susceptible to volatility in any single market. Our financial strength gives us a stable core to deal with changing economic conditions and to capitalise on opportunities. Financial strength is also attractive to clients who prefer to do business with stable partners. 5. offshore services We are the only recruitment company in the world to have such an extensive offshoring facility. This is not only a service offering for our clients, but increasingly we are utilising the services ourselves to improve the effectiveness of our own activities. In Finance, Technology and Marketing, resources based in Vietnam are now a critical part of the Group s global support infrastructure. Strategically, we are augmenting our recruitment sourcing and identification processes with teams of experts in Vietnam. This is not only cost effective, but speed to market is markedly improved as time zones allow 24-hour activity. Vietnam is a game changer for us in how we can grow efficiently.

9 HARVEY NASH MANIFESTO / 9 Group vision 20 by to achieve 20m operating profit by 2020 and be recognised internationally as an innovative, leading professional services company who are experts at delivering exceptional talent By 20m operating profit we mean the returns we make after all costs, including centralised overheads, are taken into account. In 2014 our operating profit was about 10m, our vision seeks to double this in six years. Growing operating profit is not just about revenue growth but also managing costs. By professional services we mean having a business that can genuinely help our clients in the widest possible way, across a broad range of talent services. We want to foster deep, long-term relationships in which our clients benefit from our skilled advice and knowledge. We also mean looking, feeling and acting professionally. We want to be professional because that s where the value is. This is also why we constantly need to develop and raise the bar in everything that we do. Our aim is not to be the biggest, but we do want to be the best and be able to offer our clients and employees the benefits of scale and critical mass. Through being the best we will be the most attractive to new clients and to potential new talent of our own. And the words recognised internationally as leading underline our commitment to delivering excellence and long-term results. We aspire to be the standard the industry is set by. To achieve this we need an international reach. By innovative we mean constantly challenging the norm and developing new ways to support our clients. Entrepreneurship, innovation and a culture that empowers our people to take decisions for themselves have been at the heart of how Harvey Nash has grown from developing new services through to how we market ourselves. By talent we mean helping our clients access the right talent, at the right place, in the right way, at the right time be that executive search, leadership consulting, permanent hiring, contract, outsourced, interim, offshore, onshore whatever helps our clients to achieve their goals. By talent we also mean looking after our own talent. Harvey Nash is nothing without its people and will only be able to achieve its vision of becoming an employer of choice if we are the very best at recruiting, retaining and developing our own talent. The Power of Talent is what we deliver to our clients but it is also the power of our own talent that drives Harvey Nash. We develop and prosper by business success through people.

10 10 / HARVEY NASH MANIFESTO 20by2020 to achieve 20m operating profit by 2020 and be recognised internationally as an innovative, leading professional services company who are experts at delivering exceptional talent Driving Growth Expanding the client base by winning new contracts and mandates Cross-selling the Group s services into existing clients Plugging the gap by introducing new service lines into existing markets Investing in people to add scale in existing locations Investing in new growth markets and locations Making bolt-on acquisitions in new markets and service lines Driving Profitability Delivering more of the portfolio services into existing clients Improving productivity through using Vietnam candidate sourcing Using new technologies and ways of working to reduce overhead costs Increasing the ratio of fee-earning consultants to administrative employees Driving Sustainability Attracting, developing and retaining successful consultants Retaining existing client relationships through relationshipbuilding activities such as thought leadership and events Implementing a professional services culture with a strong set of core values Maintaining a strong balance sheet 1. Driving Growth The Group s business of executive and professional recruitment is delivered in many different formats, including executive search, permanent recruitment, contract recruitment, managed solutions and project-based offshore services. These services all identify and source talented people, wherever they may be located in the world, and connect the Group s clients with this talent pool. Our key strategy is to grow market share through building long-term client relationships by leveraging our unique portfolio of services throughout our established office network. At the same we want to broaden our geographic presence both organically and through bolt-on acquisitions. Market share growth is being achieved by increasing the number of clients and achieving higher levels of client retention than the industry norm. There are also many opportunities to add additional services in existing locations in the future, affording new opportunities to broaden existing client relationships and secure new wins. Growth will also be achieved by expanding headcount in existing and new locations. Investment in headcount will be made where the Group s market-leading brands provide a platform for productivity growth in new hires such as the UK/Ireland and Northern Europe, and also in new markets with faster economic growth such as in Asia. Companies attracted by the benefits of having a broad supply of software development talent, whether in-house or in the form of offshore projects, are a key focus. This is a natural service extension for a technology recruitment business delivering a complete range of talent services to the technology function. Drawing all this together is the Group s digital strategy which brings the complete portfolio of services to market via new channels using numerous social media tools and platforms to leverage our competitive advantages. With a reputation for being at the forefront of digital initiatives, we will continue to use our pioneering in-house digital research team to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the disruptive nature of technological change.

11 HARVEY NASH MANIFESTO / Driving Profitability While we grow, our aim is to also grow the bottom line. We need to do this through a constant development of our efficiency and by striving for operational excellence. We also need to make sure that as we grow our revenues our costs don t rise accordingly. This means putting in place the shared systems, processes and operations that can allow businesses to save costs, gain information and work and share information internationally. It also means becoming experts at integrating newly acquired businesses and using our own offshore expertise to help deliver some of our own internal services. We will also continue to develop the Group s global recruitment support services centre established in Vietnam and co-located with the offshore services division. This centre supports our operations in the USA, Europe and Asia by augmenting our in-house recruitment and research capability and expertise. This results in increased consultant productivity, reduced average cost of placement and increased speed to market. An important part of reaching high profitability is to develop deep client relationships to gain a high level of repeat business. Developing and maintaining strong client relationships through successful client management and delivering a combination of quality services over time are therefore vital. Because we have multiple service lines and because we operate in multiple countries the potential to portfolio/cross-sell is especially great in Harvey Nash. It is also the very best way to develop deep, long-term relationships with clients. We want to continue to promote the culture, the training, the incentives and the roles/responsibilities that increase our revenue from this area. 3. Building a sustainable organisation To become a market leader we need to manage and develop our talent more effectively. We are a talent business and we will develop through the power of our own talent. We want to be, and be seen as, one of the top employers in our sector and have high levels of retention amongst our staff. This requires us to continually step up our leadership and personal development across the Group. Harvey Nash is nothing without its people, and the recruitment and development of its top talent worldwide is paramount. We want to continue to develop our Group-wide training programmes and knowledge sharing. We want to continue to roll out shared standards in the way our staff are appraised within service lines and brands. We need to develop all our managers into leaders and we want to introduce greater opportunity for staff to move throughout the Group. We need to reduce staff turnover if we are to grow successfully. To be able to build a strong business we need to be true to our values. Words on paper are not enough; our values should underpin everything we do, from communication internally and externally to training, appraisal, promotions and, most importantly, the words and actions of all our leaders. We need value-driven leaders to build an inclusive, value-driven business. One of our main targets is to develop sustainable global brands. We are a multi-brand company, making it possible for us to develop unique platforms with their own identities, all to attract the most interesting clients and best talent in each segment of the market. We want to have the strongest brands amongst our peer groups. We want to portray our brands as entrepreneurial and innovative, professional, passionate and collegiate. We want every country where we have a major operation to be armed with market-leading marketing tools. We want to develop each country s own marketing presence and skills. We want to have completely connected thinking in how we manage our marketing and branding across the Group and between online and offline, so that all countries and service lines benefit. We want to be, and be seen as, the innovator in online communications globally. To be the first in our market to capitalise on new developments in technology. This is especially useful as so many of our clients are technology professionals themselves. We want our brand to be associated with technology innovation. To be truly sustainable over time we also need long-term robust financial management throughout the Group. Finally, the key to our future success will be for all Harvey Nash staff to: always deliver high-quality services to our clients build long-term relationships with clients and candidates constantly innovate our ways of working, thinking and approaching the market enhance a value-driven leadership and culture be collegiate and work for the better of the team and the Group share knowledge and best practice within and across our business units have the willingness to go the extra mile
