Boreman Elementary School, Sistersville Elementary School, Tyler County Transportation Department, and Tyler County Board of Education Offices. POSTING DATE: February 1, 2017 APPLICATION DEADLINE: POSITION EFFECTIVE: SHIFT: February 8, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. This position is currently vacant. Day shift, Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Candidates must earn a passing score on the competency test for Custodian to be eligible for consideration. 2. Candidates must pass a criminal background check. 3. Candidates must have and maintain a valid and current West Virginia Driver s License. 4. Candidates must have reliable transportation to report to their worksite(s) for the day. 5. Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or GED. 2 RESPONSIBILITIES: TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: See the attached job description. The successful applicant will be provided two (2) contracts for the first year in this position. The first contract will be begin March 1, 2017 through June 30, 2017 for the prorated balance of a 240-day contract. That contract will be for 88 days. The second contract will begin July 1, 2017 and end June 30, 2018 for a full 240-day term. The employee who holds this position will be on vacation during the month of February annually and will work throughout the summer. All school holidays will also be observed as days when the employee will not be expected to report to work. The employee who holds this position will be considered assigned to all four listed facilities. Reasonable costs of transportation and travel from one building to the next as a part of job duties will be reimbursed per Tyler County policies. COMPENSATION: Daily rate, pay grade C. Appropriate compensation will be provided for legitimate travel between job sites and any authorized work completed considered to be overtime that is properly approved by a designated supervisor. TYLER COUNTY SCHOOLS Groundsman, Custodian III and Handyman Job Description Title: Groundsman, Custodian III and Handyman QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Completion of high school or GED and sufficient comprehension to carry out verbal and written instructions and reporting procedures. 2. Experience and / or working knowledge of building cleaning methods, materials, equipment and security services. 3. Awareness of issues related to fire and health safety involved in the care of buildings. 4. Able to establish, develop and sustain working relationships with co-workers, building occupants, and the public in general. 5. Possess the physical strength, dexterity, and ability to do manual work. 6. Be familiar with methods to repair school property and maintain the facility. 7. Have a working knowledge of grounds equipment and horticulture methods. 8. Possess a valid driver s license. RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principals and Program Directors NATURE OF WORK: 1. Work consists of safely operating machinery to maintain grounds at all board-owned facilities except Tyler Consolidated Middle and High Schools, custodial work and handyman work involving independent activity to keep schools clean, sanitary, and in orderly condition and perform minor maintenance tasks. To mow, trim and clean up clippings at all buildings listed on this posting according to a schedule developed by the school principals, Director of Transportation Troy Smith and Director of Facilities Amanda Kimble. 2. Employees in these classifications perform assigned manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility. Job assignments are in the form of written or oral instructions and are performed under supervision and reviewed periodically.

4 PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. In addition to the responsibilities specifically listed below, all responsibilities associated with the job description for Custodian III apply to this position. A copy of that job description is also included with this posting. 2. Cleaning and washing floors, walls and ceilings, assembling, dusting and polishing furniture, washing windows: stripping, spraying, buffing, waxing, and polishing floors, touch-up painting, washing and cleaning restrooms and disposing of trash and garbage. 3. Set up and shift furniture and furnishings as required by your supervisor. 4. Provide assistance to students, teachers, citizens and guests and any other employee as needed. 5. Transport supplies and equipment as required by supervising principals and county administrators. 6. Maintain watch over property and grounds against trespassing, vandalism, and fire hazards. 7. Assist in building maintenance on a handyman s level by replacing window glass, cleaning gutters and drainpipes, freeing stopped sanitary and sink plumbing, repairing leaks, repairing furniture, doing simple painting, replacing lights, and performing other related minor maintenance work. 8. Safely and properly operate machinery necessary to maintain grounds by cutting and trimming grass with hand and power mowers, collecting litter, trimming shrubbery and small trees, raking grounds and performing minor repairs to walks, paths, walls, play apparatus, roads, site improvements and snow removal. 9. Perform routine lubrication services and minor preventive maintenance services on mowing and trimming equipment. 10. Operate security systems and fire safety systems as necessary. 11. Inspect buildings and report deficiencies to the building supervisor. 12. Order miscellaneous custodial and grounds materials and supplies. 13. Keep records as directed by supervisors and regulatory officials at county, state and national level 14. Perform other related work as assigned by the supervisor. 15. Attain 18 clock hours of pertinent staff development to maintain / upgrade skills and knowledge. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: At the discretion of the Tyler County Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated on a formal basis annually or more often at the discretion of the principal or County Superintendent. 5 SCHOOL CUSTODIAN Primary Duties and Tasks Performed GENERAL DUTIES: 1. Dust, clean, and polish fixtures, woodwork, and equipment. 2. Wash windows and clean blinds. 3. Clean restrooms and replenish supplies. 4. Sweep, mop, wax, and polish floors, stairs, corridors, and courts using brooms, mops, and buffers. 5. Clean rugs and carpets with vacuum cleaner. 6. Wash and disinfect lunch tabletops daily 7. Dispose of trash and waste materials. 8. Clean doors, door facings, and walls with disinfectant. 9. Assist in moving equipment. 10. Check and replace light bulbs. 11. Sweep the sidewalks around buildings. 12. Shelve and store supplies. 13. Cut and trim grass and shrubbery during season. Replace fluorescent bulbs/tubes and incandescent bulbs 5. Spot paint (graffiti) 6. Tighten loose furniture components 7. Treat dust mops and dust cloths 8. Unclog drains

Dust mop uncarpeted floors 8. Buff high-gloss floor surfaces 9. Remove gum from floor by hand scraper 10. Remove marks from floor using buffer 11. Remove water from floor using wet/dry vacuum 12. Scrub floors by hand 13. Scrub floors by using buffer 14. Strip floor wax using scrubbing machine 15. Sweep uncarpeted floors 16. Vacuum carpeted surfaces 17. Spray-buff terrazzo floors 18. Wet mop uncarpeted floors DUTY F: Servicing Carpeted Areas TASKS: 1. Remove gum from carpet 2. Pre-treat spots and clean carpet 3. Sweep carpet by hand 4. Vacuum carpet DUTY G: Mowing and trimming grass and trimming shrubbery TASKS: 1. Perform routine maintenance on power lawn tools 2. Cut and trim grass and weeds at each assigned facility including athletic fields and playgrounds. 3. Prune shrubbery to improve appearance and growth potential 4. Remove clippings from parking areas, sidewalks, and stairs 5. Clean equipment after each use.

8 NOTICE TO ALL APPLICANTS: ORDER OF CONSIDERATION According to WV Code 18A-4-8b, amended and passed by the Legislature on April 11, 2009, effective on July 10, 2009, any job openings for school service personnel shall be filled based on seniority, qualifications, and evaluations of past service in the following order: 1. Regularly employed service personnel who hold a classification title within the classification category of the vacancy; 2. Service personnel on the preferred recall list who have held a classification title within the classification category of the vacancy; 3. Regularly employed service personnel who do not hold a classification title within the classification category of the vacancy; 4. Service personnel on the preferred recall list who have not held a classification title within the same classification category as the vacancy; 5. Substitute service personnel who hold a classification title within the same classification category as the vacancy; 6. Substitute service personnel who do not hold a classification title within the same classification category as the vacancy; and 7. New service personnel. WV Code 18-A-4-8b = Qualifications shall mean that the applicant holds a classification title in his or her category of employment and must be given first opportunity for promotion and filling vacancies. * Employees placed upon preferred recall list as a result of a Reduction in Force (RIF) shall be recalled to any position opening by the County Board within classification(s) where they had previously been employed, or to any lateral position for which the employee is qualified or to a lateral area for which an employee has certification and / or licensure. WV Code 18A-4-8g = Service personnel who are employed in a classification category at the time when a vacancy is posted in the same classification category of employment shall be given first opportunity to fill such vacancy. Seniority acquired within different classification categories shall be calculated separately, that when a school service employee makes application for a position outside of the classification currently held, if the vacancy is not filled by an applicant within the classification category of the vacancy, the applicant shall combine all regular employment seniority acquired for the purpose of bidding on the position.
