Job description Post title Department/Division Skills Manager RMID/ Entrepreneurship Institute Faculty Grade/salary Hours of work Period of appointment Responsible to Responsible for Campus Grade 7, 46,490 per annum inclusive of 3,223 London Weighting Allowance per annum Full time (35 hours per week) Indefinite Contract Julie Devonshire, Director of Entrepreneurship Institute Strategic Project Manager Operational Support Co-ordinator Bush House, Strand Campus Role purpose The Skills Manager leads the creation and delivery of skills support relating to entrepreneurship for our audience at King s and works to 3 critical objectives: To identify and support those who are interested in learning entrepreneurial skills and having entrepreneurial experiences from amongst our audience at King s To create relevant and impactful programmes and events that result in useful, employability and career-enhancing progress; to deliver these programmes, to evaluate them and to evolve them To develop learning materials online to support entrepreneurial skills Learning support relating to entrepreneurship should complement curriculum content but not repeat it. Learning support should be co-created with leading King s academics in entrepreneurship. This role will lead on entrepreneurial skills, facilitating the opportunity for students, staff and alumni at King s to learn skills such as ideation, innovation, problem solving, how to form diverse teams etc. King s ref: G7/RTJ/1768/18-HH Advert ref: Page 1 of 9 Version

2 Learning entrepreneurial skills and having entrepreneurial experiences can benefit careers of all types; it s not just about starting ventures but also about creating an entrepreneurial and innovative workforce for the future. From amongst our audience of students, staff and alumni, there are many who would be interested in learning about entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial skill. Many, too, will find value in having entrepreneurial experiences and learning from these, finding safe-haven to make mistakes and celebrate success. The Skills Manager will be responsible for actively engaging with those amongst our audience who would like to develop entrepreneurial skills and have entrepreneurial experiences. We are looking to develop a suite of support for entrepreneurial learning including: 1. The Idea Factory A competition for early-stage ideas ending with a prize-giving event at the House of Lords 2. The London Venture Crawl A group of London universities and their entrepreneurial students exploring the London scene for entrepreneurship in 24 hours, on London buses 3. The Future Founders programme a three-year programme, funded by Santander, to support female founders, widening participation students and internship candidates 4. A series of masterclasses covering the seven skills of entrepreneurship 5. The curate learning materials on KEATS 6. The Enterprise Award A university-wide award which, if awarded, becomes part of your Higher Education Achievement Report This is an external and internally facing role that requires a pro-active and innovative approach to the research, development and execution of activities for the benefit of the students, alumni and staff at King s College London. Much of the content for these activities will be sourced externally making relationship/stakeholder management an important aspect of this role. The Skills Manager will also be expected to be an ambassador for entrepreneurship at King s, speaking about our activities and aspiration to audiences, blogging and hosting learning groups from around the world. Role profile The Skills Manager will need to demonstrate these skills and take on these responsibilities Technical skills and experience relating to learning methodologies and their delivery The Skills Manager will need knowledge of entrepreneurial matters that should be taught and of enterprise education. They will need to source external partners to deliver appropriate content or be able to deliver it themselves. Communication and outreach The ability to find and target people amongst our audience who would benefit from skills support Relationship Building and ecosystem development Skills to build a group of professionals who will each help to deliver aspects of entrepreneurial learning. Additionally, building strong partnerships across the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Creativity and Programme/Curriculum Design Skills The ability to think creatively about the design and deliver of learning Decision Making, Planning and Problem Solving Programme construction skills, delivery and evaluation skills are all essential to this role, problem solving along the way. 3 The Skills Manager must have the skill to deliver clear evidence of skills development, experiential learning, enhanced employability and participant satisfaction. Evaluation and evolution Programmes must deliver and must develop, improving quality and outputs each year Teamwork, Teaching & Development Team dynamics are important as is relationship building in general. The ability to nurture will be essential Brand Ambassadorship The Skills Manager must be a strong ambassador for the Entrepreneurship Institute and for King s College London Pastoral Care A strong duty of pastoral care must be demonstrated. Key responsibilities: Work across our audience to find and bring forward groups to learn, delivering support in line with the King s ethos and aims Design suitable programmes of support for entrepreneurial skills development Evaluate support and work on evolving programmes Refresh and deliver support programmes including technical learning, learning-by-doing, summer school engagement, competitions, awards and drop-in requests for information Bring in skills to deliver the learning content Create content to share learning Showcase success in entrepreneurship at King s for others to learn from Carry out such activities consistent with the post as directed by the Director of the Entrepreneurship Institute and co-ordinated with the priorities of key stakeholders. 8 Summary of Terms and Conditions of Service This appointment is made under the King s College London Terms and Conditions of Service for Professional Services staff a copy of which is available from the Recruitment Team upon request. Probation Six Months Annual leave 27 working days per annum pro rata (please note the annual leave year runs from January-December) bank holidays and customary closure days in are in addition to the annual leave entitlement. Staff receive four additional customary closure days in December. Notification as to how these days are taken is circulated at the start of the academic year. Superannuation This appointment is superannuable under the USS pension scheme. In accordance with recent legislation, we automatically enrol our staff in a pension scheme if they meet certain age and earning criteria. This is known as auto-enrolment. The university collects pension contributions via a salary sacrifice method called PensionsPlus. These deductions are made before the calculation of tax and national insurance is calculated; therefore reducing the amount you pay. Staff already superannuated under the NHS Superannuation Scheme may opt to remain in that scheme provided an application to do so is received by the NHS scheme trustees within three months of appointment to King s College London. Please note that NHS Superannuation Scheme: Medical Schools are classed as Direction Employers and some benefits of the NHS Scheme are not available to Direction members. Alternatively staff may opt to take out a personal pension. Please note that the university does not provide an employer's contribution towards a private pension plan.
