The primary responsibilities of the Board include the following: To ensure that the Society meets all its legal, financial and other statutory requirements. To monitor operations, including the setting of membership fees, the approval of budgets and the maintenance of reserves. To establish committees and panels to oversee the Society s activities and implementation of policy in relevant areas and to advise the Board on issues in those areas. To monitor committees actions and budgets and ensure their projects to be consistent with overall objectives of CFA Society France. Each committee is responsible for defining its objectives and budget for achieving them, and, following approval from the Board, for the implementation of said objectives. The Board is not required to approve purely operating matters but should be kept informed of developments. Each Director may invite a volunteer involved in a specific committee to report at the Board meeting, on the strict conditions he is a regular member and his presence is planned on the agenda. Society President Preside at all meetings of the membership, board of directors, and executive committee. Act as ex officio member of all committees. Monitor and evaluate the progress, performance, and effectiveness of all programs. Act as Member Society spokesperson to the media and related organizations. Ensure that the Member Society is acting in accordance with Member Society and CFA Institute Bylaws. Treasurer Maintain all books and records relating to the financial operations of the society; records should be available for inspection upon request by any member of the society s Board of Directors and external auditor Issue all payments to vendors, members, and other appropriate parties for authorised society expenditures Collect funds received during local society events and make timely deposits into a bank account at an appropriate banking institution opened in the society s name Formalise an annual budget CFA Institute CFA Society France BOARD AND COMMITTEES 3

4 Prepare required budgets for event/program planning, funding, etc. Prepare a monthly P&L (cash flow-based, not accrual) Prepare a year-end P&L and balance sheet to be shared with the society members Prepare any required tax filings Coordinate operational and growth funding with CFA Institute Maintain tax, regulatory, and legal compliance as necessary Oversee and manage investment reserves pursuant to the society s investment policy as approved by the society s Board Secretary The Secretary is responsible for issuing appropriate notices of meetings to the Members and the Board of Directors. The Secretary is also responsible for: Signs into effect, together with the President, all new and/or amended by-laws Maintain the society s records, contracts, and other documents Maintain the contact information of Members and Directors of the society The Secretary's primary role is to act as the clerk of the Board of Directors. In this capacity the Secretary's responsibilities include: Attending all meetings of the society Recording and distributing the minutes of the meetings of the Boards of Directors CFA Institute CFA Society France BOARD AND COMMITTEES 4

5 Committees Candidate / Scholarships Patricia Donnelly, CFA () Myriam Ferran, CFA (co-) patricia.donnelly@bnpparibas.com myriam.ferran@cfafrance.org The Candidate Preparations Committee is responsible for any society initiative relating to existing candidates for the CFA Program, including but not limited to: society scholarships, mock exams and complimentary curriculum orders. Order complimentary curriculum for society use Identify potential scholarship winners Promote scholarship program locally Work with scholarship applicants through application process Manage determination process at the society level Liaise with CFA Institute scholarship office to ensure proper award Inform candidates about the curriculum and body of knowledge Organise informational events for candidates and mock exams Help CFA Institute to organize the exam Candidate coordinators Assist the Candidate Relation Committee in organizing activities and communications with the candidates to CFA examinations. Event co-organizers Oversee the mock exam, distribute the materials and answer the questions Co-presenters Share experience of taking CFA examinations and becoming CFA charter holder with candidates. Welcome and answer candidates questions. 6 Liaise with CFA Institute University relations team on potential partner institutions in the area Contact potential partners, give CFA Program Presentations and accompany willing universities through the process Visit existing partners Present at local educational institutions on the CFA Program, ethics, and the investment industry Liaise with local educational institutions to offer the CFA Institute Research Challenge Liaise with partners to identify potential collaboration actions and organize joint events University Liaison Co-present CFA programme and CFA Society France to universities and business schools. Education Remi Grentzinger () cfafrance.org The Education Committee is responsible for setting up continuing education program or/and educational events. In particular, the Committee is responsible for organizing the local Research Challenge (RC) and the QuantAwards. Recruit of Graders and Mentors, with the support of the Volunteer Source a company to analyse and initiate contact Contact universities and liaise with students Organise and attend the 3 main events: Kick off, IR Meeting, Final (source venue, speakers, organise cocktail) Check students CVs Organise RC reports grading Source a RC sponsor Oversee Quant Prize a competition involving students that present a research article in quantitative finance Liaise with other Committees, in particular the Public Awareness Committee, to consider opportunities of setting up a continuing education program or/and educational events Review all policy issues relating to professional development, proposing any necessary changes to Board Mentors Meet with the students group to guide them in preparation of their report. Maximum three meetings for about 2 hours each time. Graders Read and evaluate each Written Report (around 5-9 reports) using the Research Report Evaluation Form. This Committee is also responsible for promoting the value of society membership and the CFA designation to leading employers. Provide career support to society members through, eg, organizing events and setting agreements with other local societies in order to specify local entry points available for any members seeking advice or contact when preparing a job migration. Broker information between employers and members regarding job opportunities and qualified talent (managing employer outreach efforts, managing a job posting service) Improve members professional, and/or soft skills so they can differentiate themselves in the marketplace. Skills are based on both technical expertise and professionalism (career selfmanagement and professional development programming and content development) Set up and maintain a procedure that frames jobs offers collection and dissemination Provide industry and career pathway insights; include information about the value of achieving the CFA/CIPM designations, to candidates and students entering the profession (career guides, presenting at local/university career fairs) Event co-organizer Welcome and direct participants during Career event. Global Mobility Coordinators Contact local CFA societies worldwide and establish mutual agreements and procedures to welcome relocating members; Keep contacts with members that emigrated and encourage them to share their experience. Membership Myriam Ferran, CFA () Inna Mufteeva, CFA myriam.ferran@cfafrance.org inna.mufteeva@cfafrance.org The objective of the Membership Committee is to manage membership through the engaging and recruiting of potential members through the application process, responding to membership inquiries, and managing existing memberships. The Committee is also involved with actively promoting membership participation in Society programs and events. 8 Welcome new members Promote member retention Provide Board with accurate numbers of Regular / Affiliate / Candidate members, Charter Pending, Pending Members and member applications Convert all applications and charter pending to full member status Encourage Level 3 to apply for full membership Follow up with members who do not renew, find out why and encourage them to comeback (if appropriate) Provide to the others committees any data available relative to members to help them make their missions Ensure that member data is used for appropriate purposes only (ie : better know our member s jobs, experiences and qualifications to fulfill their expectations...) Liaise with other committees, particularly the Events and Technology committee, to support membership and spearhead members recruitment. Manage actively the CFA Society France members group on Linkedin.com Review all policy issues relating to membership. Events should provide added value to members by organising continuing education events, arranging networking and career opportunities which can also be a secondary source to recruitment new members and volunteers. Finding expert speakers for society events Organising events and providing logistics support; being the point of contact for the venue Managing attendees lists and gathering event evaluation surveys Liaise with Sponsorship Committee to secure sponsorship and effectively promoting events Liaise with Membership and Technology Committees to broadcast information to all members, including those located outside Paris Event co-organizers Assisting the in planning and organizing of the events. 9 Public Awareness / Communication Philippe Maupas, CFA () Séverine Vadon-David, CFA Myriam Ferran, CFA philippe.maupas@cfafrance.org severine.vadon@cfafrance.org myriam.ferran@cfafrance.org Public relations and advertising can be cost-effective communications tools that help raise the visibility of your society, its members, and/or the CFA designation. An effective public awareness campaign also builds membership, raises program attendance, and enhances employer interest in supporting society activities, and its members. Help design the communication strategy Advise the Board on the image that the Society should seek to promote Promote the CFA Brand to key local decision makers Monitor consistency in the promotion of the Society s image in printed and electronic (including the website and ) materials Assist CFA Institute in its own communication in France Work with local Public Relations agency and local media (read proofs of press releases, provide material) Help CFA Society France identify and approach at the right level the key institutional players on the French financial scene. Liaise with other committees, particularly the Events, Membership and Technology committees, to develop and maintain communication medias for our community (website, newsletter,...) Liaise with the Advocacy committee to reach key players concerned by Advocacy works and help make them seen/read by the Financial Community Liaise with the Education Committee to set up a continuing education program dedicated to targeted non-finance professionals Review all policy issues relating to public awareness and communication Develop and implement a public awareness plan Act as a main point of contact for journalists Communication Coordinator Help craft the communication strategy for CFA Society France; assist CFA Institute in its own communication in France; work with local PR agency and local media (read proofs of pressreleases, provide material); help CFA Society France identify and approach at the right level the key institutional players on the French financial scene. 10 Advocacy Séverine Vadon-David, CFA () Nathalie Columelli, CFA Jean-Philippe Dorp, CFA cfafrance.org The Advocacy Committee coordinates the local advocacy outreach efforts, and is the primary communication point for CFA Institute advocacy initiatives. Act as society liaison with CFA Institute on Advocacy issues Keep society members up to date on the latest standards and policy initiatives of CFA Institute Gather and provide local feedback to CFA Institute on standards and policy initiatives Develop and maintain contact list of key local decision makers (industry leaders, policy makers, regulators) Promote CFA Institute Code and Standards, and Advocacy positions to key local decision makers Develop and implement a local Advocacy Outreach Plan Recruit and lead a local society Advocacy committee or interest group Identify and monitor key regulatory and best practice developments likely to affect CFA Society France members. Build and maintain strong relations with the regulatory agencies and other professional organizations Investigate and assess relevant developments and determine whether with Board approval CFA Society France should undertake any necessary action. Consult CFA Society France members when possible in developing and promoting the Society s regulatory advocacy positions. Draft and request Board approval of advocacy papers and other materials covering regulatory and best practice developments. Approve the list of volunteers involved in each sub-committees, coordinate their works and validate the papers Liaise with the CFA Institute experts to challenge our conclusions in case of discrepancy Liaise with the Communication committee to specify the best media to broadcast our advocacy positions Review all policy issues relating to advocacy Working groups Ethics/Market practice What makes good Indices and Benchmarks? 11 Preparations of Answers to Consultations This group should be ready to help answering consultations from regulators on Capital Markets/Asset Management/ Corporate Governance. Please note that consultations are sometimes issued with short delays. Volunteers Ksenya Rulik, CFA () Inna Mufteeva, CFA (Co-chair) The Volunteer Management committee is responsible for identifying society needs fulfilling them while overseeing society volunteers, helping them understand their role and fulfill their responsibilities. Organise and manage volunteer recruitment. Keep volunteer database up to date Assure specific positions are filled and that volunteers receive orientation, information, support and recognition. Organise and handle volunteers evaluation. Best practices project coordinator Prepare an overview of the best practices resources from CFA Society Leader Center concerning local society management as well as the services/events to propose to society members. Technology Philippe Maupas, CFA () The Technology Committee is responsible for initiating, maintaining, and promoting various technologies used daily by the society. This includes a periodic review of the latest technologies available as well as integrating the new technological offers by CFA Institute. The committee will recommended the most appropriate technologies to the Board and will also submit an annual budget proposal for changes and upgrades.
