To apply for this position, send resume and cover letter to. Overview The Miami Rescue Mission is a forward thinking, growing, and Christ-Centered organization. From preventive programs with youth to emergency services, to short and long term programs for the homeless, to transitional housing, to clinical services, the mission s mandate is to serve the homeless and introduce them to a loving God that has a plan for their lives and help empower them to be productive citizens. About the Organization The Miami Rescue Mission is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that believes no one should be homeless. For nearly 100 years, the Mission has been reaching out to the least, the last, and the lost of the South Florida community, offering hope and help with compassion and the love of God. As a faith-based organization, it operates with Christian and charitable values and provides services to all without regard to race, faith, age or gender. Its mission is to transform the lives of homeless men, women, and children through comprehensive residential programs to effect lasting change and empower them to become productive members of society. Since its founding, the Mission has been a pioneering organization devoted to providing men, women, and children with the best in spiritual and practical restoration. It is a safety net for society, rescuing those who have lost their connection to community. Often people come to its doors broken, bereft of hope and emotional well being. Whatever the cause of their misfortune mental illness, disability, abusive relationships, job loss, drug dependency, or chronic institutionalization, the Mission helps them rebuild their lives and reestablish their place in society through hope, compassion, and programs that work. Established in 1922, the Mission played a critical role in helping those in need throughout the Great Depression and World War II. As poverty spread out from the inner city into the suburbs, the Mission responded to the growing needs of impoverished and homeless individuals by expanding services beyond the city. Miami Rescue Mission is not only one of the oldest, but it is also one of the largest providers of emergency human services in the Southeast Florida community. Today, Miami Rescue Mission has a far-reaching impact, providing services and operating multiple facilities from Miami to Pompano Beach. The Mission has 3 campuses in two counties. Miami-Dade has one campus with 388 beds and Broward has two (called Broward Outreach Centers) with a total of 380 beds.

2 The Mission also offers the most comprehensive programs for homeless men, women, and children in Southeast Florida. Not only does it provide food, clothing and shelter, it operates a private school, medical clinics, comprehensive education and life skills programs, and transitional housing. The Mission excels at providing people with the resources and skills they need to feel whole again, to re-engage with family and friends, to earn an income independently, and to establish themselves as contributing members in their communities. In 2015 alone, the Miami Rescue Mission: provided an extraordinary array of services Nearly 1,000,000 free meals 386,000 nights of safe shelter 250,000 hours of education, life skills training, and job training 120,000 units of medical services Over 190,000 items of clothing Over 1500 families were provided food, furnishings, toys, and other basic necessities of life to help people to achieve extraordinary success Over 450 clients completed the Mission s highly-effective long-term education program Over 700 at-risk young people received over 78,000 hours of afterschool services and nutritious meals More than 750 people transitioned to employment with the help of extraordinary people Community members volunteered 95,000 hours of time Serving a burgeoning population of those who are in need is a constant challenge. The Mission s programs and centers are operating at full capacity, feeding the hungry, caring for the poor, and helping thousands of men, women, and children. This is a critical moment in the life of the Mission. As it continues to grow and pursue its vision for the future, it needs to continue to build its leadership team. A strategic member of that team is the Director of Advancement Operations, who will partner with the Chief Advancement Officer to significantly grow the philanthropic support provided to the Mission. The Mission is seeking a highly experience advancement professional with sound management skills and a proven track record. 2 Position Summary The Director of Advancement Operations reports to the Chief Advancement Officer. This individual s primary responsibility is managing the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive Advancement Office program, which includes strategy and planning, and array of fundraising programs, team building and

3 3 team performance, gift and fundraising program policies, gift processing, donor stewardship, and donor communications. One of the most important capabilities of the director is to possess a sound grasp of strategy and the use of data to drive performance. The director must also have the capacity to develop an enthusiastic team that encourages supporters to share of their time, talent, and treasure so that the Mission can successfully serve the men, women and children in the community that are homeless or at risk. As an executive and member of the leadership team of the Mission, the Director of Advancement Operations must enthusiastically embrace Christian beliefs and principles and sign a statement of faith. Areas of Responsibility Fundraising Program Leadership and Management Fundraising Oversight and Implementation Teambuilding Primary Duties: Fundraising Program Leadership and Management Advancement Program Planning and Plan Implementation Under the leadership of Chief Advancement Officer, successfully implement an integrated plan for the Advancement Office that achieves fundraising objectives, most importantly the financial goals. This includes identifying or creating strategic and tactical projects and initiatives that will serve as effective mechanisms for development. Budgeting, Reporting, and Evaluation With Chief Advancement Officer develop and manage an annual budget for the advancement program. Collect qualitative and quantitative measures for each area of program activity, track key benchmarks, organize information in accessible formats, provide regular reports to the CAO, the CEO, the Board of Directors, and others as requested. Management Team Member Serve collaboratively with members of the senior management team, integrating development into organizational strategies and activities. Policy and Protocols Ensure that all policies and procedures are up-to-date and recorded in appropriate manuals, including the advancement office manual and the gifts-in-kind manual. Team Leadership Provide leadership and motivation to the advancement office staff. Directly supervise community development managers and the gifts and marketing manager.

4 4 Volunteer Recruitment and Oversight Identify the range of effective volunteer roles and responsibilities necessary for a vibrant and successful advancement program. Work with the advancement team to provide orientation, training, reports, etc as needed to succeed. Fundraising Oversight and Implementation Annual Giving Understand the Mission s culture and public profile and guide the development of the annual giving program. Ensure that: (1) appeals are coordinated and delivered on schedule, (2) content of appeals is aligned with approved messaging writes content as necessary, (3) deliberate decisions are made and strategies exist for the inclusion or exclusion of major gifts prospects and donors from annual giving mailings and activities, and (4) annual leadership giving campaign is well-managed. Call Center Work with the Chief Advancement Officer to set the call center agenda, shape priorities, manage deployment of staff, ensure proper data collection, and develop/deliver appropriate reports. Communications Review, edit, and create content for letters, newsletters, reports, brochures, etc. Work with graphic designer to produce and distribute communications that effectively communicate target messages to key audiences. Corporate and Foundation Fundraising Develop strategies and secure annual targets. Successfully manage and grow programs. Direct Appeal Program Oversee and continue to develop the direct appeal program, including prospect acquisition, segmentation, cultivation, and performance; and the integration of direct mail, solicitation, and online giving. Fundraising Events Under the direction of Chief Advancement Officer oversee the development and implementation events that support and achieve organizational goals. Gift Processing, Gift Acknowledgement, and Data Management (including reconciliation and reporting) Ensure that the donor relationship and gift management system is well designed, and that gift data is properly coded, accurate, and well organized. Ensure that gift processing, acknowledgement, and management are accurate and timely; and that appropropriate reports are created and delivered on schedule. Grants Oversee research, prospect identification, proposal preparation, reporting, and renewal of grant opportunities. Social Media and the Digital Footprint Ensure that the Mission effectively employs a range of social media tools Facebook, Instagram, targeted and maintain a professional web presence, including webpage look, content, and donation mechanisms.

5 5 Writing Shape key messages through the preparation of proposals, solicitation letters, and other materials for prospects and donors; ensure that they persuasively communicate appropriate messages and are consistent with the efforts of others to strategically position the organization. Teambuilding Culture Foster an atmosphere, internally and externally, of cooperation and ownership of the values, vision, and mission of the organization to reinforce a common sense of purpose. Cultivate organizational comfort and engagement in advancement plans and strategies designed to achieve the Mission s objectives. Support the Chief Advancement Officer in the areas of major gifts, planned giving and other special interest donor/focus groups. Provide the CAO with appropriate and well-prepared donor lists. Assist with campaign initiatives. Teamwork Establish and maintain high quality relationships with program staff by maintaining a personal rapport, leading a cross functional planning team, and demonstrating a firm grasp of the critical issues facing the Office of Advancement. Requirements At least five years of experience in a managing fundraising programs. Professional fundraising experience in annual giving, foundation/corporate giving, direct appeal, database management, and donor stewardship. Professional experience in managing people and programs. Professional experience working in an organization that provides social services. Agrees with the Christian philosophy of the Miami Rescue Mission ministry and willing to sign its statement of faith. Demonstrated competence with information technology, including the Microsoft Office Suite and gift accounting and database software used by the Mission. Able to provide own transportation at any time of the day or evening to travel among Miami Rescue Mission campuses, to events, and to visit stakeholders and prospective donors. Preferred Experience Professional experience in organizations providing services to the homeless. Professional experience in managing an integrated fundraising program.
