Our way of working to achieve impact in all of these areas is by engaging young volunteers from around the world through our current main delivery programmes: Raleigh Expedition and International Citizen Service (ICS), a UK government-funded development programme that brings together young people from all backgrounds to fight poverty around the world. We operate in partnership with communities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and governments in Malaysian Borneo, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Nepal and Tanzania. The Youth Partnerships Officer role will be part of the Marketing & Volunteer Recruitment team which aims to create awareness of Raleigh, its work and its programmes and to manage the volunteer journey pre-departure, from marketing, recruitment and selection of young people onto its programmes through to support and training. Overall Purpose of the Role To recruit and facilitate support for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds onto Raleigh expedition. Managing existing partnerships and seeking new partnerships with youth organisations based across the UK will be essential in achieving diversity in young people who join a Raleigh programme. The Youth Partnerships Officer works closely with a number of external and internal stakeholders, and must continue to seek input to ensure the young people are supported in the best way possible during their volunteer journey with Raleigh. Working collaboratively across many teams, this role will contribute towards the development of systems to support young people on both expeditions and ICS, and increase internal awareness of Raleigh s work with disadvantaged young people. In addition, the postholder will need to find ways to ensure Raleigh s voice is heard more widely within the sector. Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities Engage and manage external partnerships Develop materials and deliver presentations to engage keyworkers and young people, and to clearly explain the programme and what the opportunity entails Establish and manage relationships with senior members of partnership organisations, and with support from the Volunteer Recruitment Manager, set parameters of relationship, agree targets for delivery and address any partnership working issues Support the Volunteer Recruitment Manager to ensure annual partner MOUs are signed with high level staff (e.g. CEOs). Build relationships with key workers in youth organisations in order to recruit and select appropriate young people onto the Raleigh Outdoor Assessment Residential (ROAR), and provide ongoing support throughout young peoples participation Work with key workers and other professionals to acquire supporting materials or letters required for safe participation for young people 2

3 Liaise with key workers and co-ordinate the participation of young people on the ROAR including organising UK travel Coordinate the participation of alumni volunteers to support youth partnership work, for Raleigh opportunities such as presentations and training Contribute to annual review meetings with the Volunteer Recruitment Manager and all external partners Contribute to systems that will improve the volunteer journey and support provided to young people Ensure marketing materials and website pages are relevant and up-to-date with revised messaging and processes etc Work closely with the Volunteer Recruitment Manager and UK Learning and Development team to determine appropriate ROAR content as an engagement and selection tool for young people, and on occasion act as a facilitator at the ROAR Liaise with Volunteer Recruitment Manager to chair post-roar meeting and determine country allocations for each expedition Work with Volunteer Recruitment Manager to develop annual recruitment plans for targeting youth organisations, and consult on any changes to application process (online application forms, eligibility and needs assessment, selection questions, selection criteria) Organise internal partnership review meeting every 3 months, and facilitate with support from the Volunteer Recruitment Manager Thorough briefing to Volunteer Delivery Team post ROAR to make sure that young people are sufficiently supported with pastoral, fundraising and administrative care Work closely with the Volunteer Recruitment Manager to liaise with keyworkers or partner organisations over any in-country or residential incidents if briefed by Safety team, and support Safety team with all relevant information Ensure support needs are identified and met throughout the end to end journey by sharing information and working across department leads responsible for the volunteer end to end journey Support internal teams in their understanding of working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, through knowledge sharing and the provision of training. Day-to-day responsibilities Report to the Volunteer Recruitment Manager against the recruitment application funnel, to account for drop-off at each stage of the volunteer journey Ensure adequate and high quality supply of case studies and spokespeople for communications and M&E purposes. Support the Volunteer Recruitment Manager to provide a detailed yearly report on the Partnership programme to support fundraising bids, communications activity and Raleigh s M&E work 3

4 Internal updates to staff about recruitment progress, M&E and volunteers stories Work closely with the Volunteer Recruitment Manager to review all early returns and agree internal actions to ensure Raleigh is addressing all concerns before following up with partnership organisation Liaise regularly with the Volunteer Recruitment Manager and Fundraising Team to provide information for case studies and funder reports, and to deliver specific targeted recruitment in line with funder requirements Strategic input and reporting responsibilities Regularly share insights on external issues affecting participation of young people in partnership programme Contribute to the development of Raleigh s expertise in working with disadvantaged young people Develop best practice processes for the area of work and support staff to effectively engage and support disadvantaged young people Regular monitoring of travel expenditure budgets and Partnership income budgets (volunteer fundraising), and contribute to forecasting with the Volunteer Recruitment Manager Regular monitoring of partner type and referral volume General responsibilities Handle incoming and following up on enquiries from potential youth partnership young people Maintain accurate and detailed records of contact with and details of all young people and youth organisations Deliver at least two open events per year Share best practice, ideas, learnings and successes within the team and organisation-wide to maximise the effectiveness of recruitment activities Attend first two days of each ROAR to coordinate the arrival of young people and support staff training Fully complete one 4 day ROAR in March Attend two ICS assessment events per cycle as an assessor Assist with Volunteer Recruitment, where appropriate. Person Specification (Skills and Experience) Essential skills Excellent presenter, with ability to engage and inspire young people Excellent inter-personal skills with an ability to build relationships with people at all levels Self-starter with an enthusiastic, positive and flexible attitude Ability to work autonomously and without close supervision Excellent administration skills and attention to detail 4

5 Ability to work constructively and collaboratively with others to achieve success Well-developed written and verbal communication skills targeted at variety of audiences IT literacy: good level of competency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and CRM databases Innovative approach to problem-solving Commitment to the aims, ethos and culture of Raleigh International Essential experience Some experience of working with and understanding of challenges facing disadvantaged young people Experience in delivering presentations to and commanding respect from a group of young people Evidence of providing superior customer care Track record in being results-driven and achieving targets Experience in relationship management at a professional level Evidence of working collaboratively across departments Track record in multi-tasking and structuring and prioritising workload to meet deadlines Desirable experience International volunteering Sharing best practice of working with disadvantaged youth at sector meetings or conferences Management reporting Other Information Holiday entitlement The holiday entitlement for full-time staff is 25 working days per year, plus 8 public holidays. Office hours The holiday entitlement is 25 working days per year, plus 8 public holidays. Normal office hours are Monday to Friday, , although some weekend and evening working is required for partner visits, supporting young people and their organisations during an incident or crisis overseas, the ROAR event, assessment events and other training events (circa 10 days per cycle - 30 per year).
