1 Job escription Finance Manager Reports to: Chief xecutive Officer Salary: Band - 28,774-35,387 (pro-rata) Hours: 37/week (part-time will be considered) Office Location: Company-wide with a base at Acomb, Hexham, N46 4SA Journey nterprises Journey nterprises is a local charity which was founded by parents of young people with learning disability and complex needs 30 years ago. Launched in Northumberland we now operate across the north east. The Charity provides life-skills and employability training for young people and adults with intellectual disability, and runs social enterprises within our local communities. Clients play a key part in the success of social enterprises by using the experience as a stepping stone to employment. The conditions the Charity supports include own s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Williams Syndrome, Fragile X and Soto s and our Clients range in age from 16 to 75 years. Journey believes passionately in enhancing quality of life and giving people with complex disability opportunities to lead happier and socially-inclusive lives in their home communities. Our services are developed on a person-centred approach, designed to meet each individual s life ambitions and dreams. We work within each person s circles of support, recognising the expertise and knowledge of the individual and of unpaid/family carers.

3 Job escription The Finance Manager is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and acts as Company Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Based out of our Head Office at Acomb, Hexham, he/she will also visit our sites at Coundon (County urham) and Wallsend (North Tyneside). Principal duties: Providing financial reports and accounts to enable the Board to discharge their financial responsibilities Preparing annual budgets, in conjunction with the Chief xecutive Officer and Operations Manager Preparing monthly accounts, forecasts and balance sheets Managing the Company s bank accounts and administration of movement between funds Managing the Company s financial transactions i.e. handling payments and receipts, cash flow, salaries, PAY & VAT, liaison with debtors and creditor Managing the ongoing function of auto enrolment / pensions Contributing to the wider work of the Senior Leadership Team including support for, and oversight of, the middle management team

4 Core Responsibilities: All Staff To ensure the Safeguarding of Clients within service at all times; To maintain safe working practices, ensuring Health & Safety at work both on site and within Journey s outreach activities; To promote Journey s mission and values and to commit to successful delivery of our five strategic priorities; To champion equality & diversity and inclusion for all; To observe all Journey s policies and procedures; To ensure the standards of our work meet the requirements of service regulators and funders as directed by line managers; To attend Journey meetings and events as required: these may include occasional unsocial hours commitment; To commit to continuing professional development, attending any training identified by Journey.

5 Person Specification Required Skills ssential () or esirable () Qualifications and Licensing 1. Accountancy qualification from one of the CCAB bodies i.e. ICAW, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS or relevant professional experience. 2. Management qualification and licensing. 3. Qualified as a Company Secretary. 4. Recent Safeguarding Adults training. xperience years experience in financial management. 2. vidence of successful growth of an organisation s income 3. xperience of developing robust financial systems, policies and procedures and of financial analysis, planning, budgeting and cost control. 4. xperience of producing annual accounts ideally within the Voluntary & Community Sector, and of overseeing commissioning of, and liaison with, external auditors. 5. xperience of managing local authority, epartment for Work & Pensions or NHS income generated through social care, employability or health contracting. 6. xperience of managing restricted income provided by charitable trusts and foundations. 7. xperience managing income growth within a social enterprise. 8. xperience of using financial packages e.g. QuickBooks. 9. xperience of conducting internal reviews and audits to ensure financial systems compliance and effectiveness. 10. xperience of line managing and/or training staff.

6 Knowledge 1. Strong understanding of strategic financial planning 2. Knowledge and understanding of accounting systems, financial software and information systems. 3. Good understanding of Charities SORP and of the role of the Charity Commission. 4. Knowledge of the North ast Voluntary & Community Sector gained either from professional and/or personal experience (e.g. volunteering). 5. Strong understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Charity Trustees and of the Treasurer. 6. An understanding of learning disability gained from professional and/or lived experience. 7 Our Application Process Candidate interviews will be held on Friday 26 th April Closing date: Monday 15th April 2019, 9am. Shortlisting for Interview All applications are administered centrally.
