ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Position Title of Supervisor: Community Transport Service Coordinator Titles of Positions which report to this position: Nil Contractors for which this position is responsible: Nil 3. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION The primary purpose of the position is to provide a range of transport services for Community Services & Programs. The passengers will include frail aged, people with disabilities and their carers, children, youth and other community organisations. The position involves driving the community bus in a manner which provides a safe, reliable and responsive transport service to people within the local community who have a wide variety of special needs. The position involves the cleaning of the Community Transport fleet, record keeping in relation to Community Bus Hire, recording and reporting issues associated with Community Bus Hire. 4. POSITION OBJECTIVES The major objectives to be achieved by the Community Bus driver are: Consistently provide a high quality Community Transport service. 2 Maintain sensitivity and respect for the varied cultural, religious, social and economic backgrounds of clients. Consistently project a positive image of the City of Sydney. Consistently uphold the values of the City Of Sydney. To be held accountable for working conditions under the control of the position and for detecting any unsafe or unhealthy conditions or behaviour and to take immediate steps to investigate or rectify any risks to health, safety and welfare arising from any activity. 5. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES Transport the frail/aged or people with disabilities, children and youth groups in a safe, courteous and caring manner. Assist passengers to embark and disembark from the bus, including the carrying of their bags where appropriate. Provision of physical assistance and support to passengers, particularly those who are frail older people or people with a disability. Follow bus timetable prepared by your supervisor. Liaise with the Community Worker/Supervisor in regards to keeping the bus timetable continuously updated. Liaise with Community Worker/Supervisor to ensure that the transport service is flexible and responsive to the daily needs of clients. Ensure regular comfort stops are taken on any bus trips. Bus drivers are not to go beyond the designated area of operation for bus trips, unless authorized by Direct Services Coordinator. Maintain records concerning maintenance of the bus and ensure that all safety standards are met. Care for and economically operate the vehicle under your control. Refuel Community Buses as necessary and ensure appropriate records (e.g. receipts, logbooks) to be kept. Complete all cleaning duties associated with the Community Buses as directed by the Community Transport Service Coordinator. This is not limited to the cleaning of vehicles. Complete any administrative tasks, including data collection, associated with this service e.g conduct First Aid Audits Report any accidents/incidents and complete appropriate forms and documents including online reporting systems. 3 Comply with the Traffic Laws and Regulations and adhere to the City s Motor Vehicle Policy, Motor Vehicle Procedure and Crash Management Strategy. Assist with identifying effective, efficient and responsive work methods so as to maintain/improve delivery of Community Transport services. To act with Integrity, Courage, Collaboration, Innovation, Quality and Respect. Follow Fleet Services requirements for vehicle checks and inspections. Assist other City of Sydney Council business units as required. Other duties as directed by your Supervisor. Actively participate in all training. Adhere to all relevant Council policies and procedures. Comply with and keep abreast of any relevant legislation applicable to the performance of the duties of this position. This position has been identified as child related employment under the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act WORK HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES Workers have an active role to play in the Safety Management System (SMS). Workers have the following responsibility, authority and accountability: Working safely so as not to put yourself or others at risk. Stopping work in circumstances that are deemed an immediate risk to health and safety until a satisfactory solution is agreed/implemented. Cooperating and complying with safe work method statements, policies and procedures and participating in their development. Reporting all accident, incidents and hazards to your supervisor immediately and participating in accident/incident investigation and risk management activities. Attending WHS training. Complying with the requirements of the City s Return to Work program. AUTHORITY TO ACT The incumbent has the authority to take any reasonable steps to ensure that the smooth flow of operations is maintained providing the actions are consistent with the responsibilities of the position and subject to any limitations, corporate policies, procedures or safe work method statements. All personnel have the power to stop work in circumstances that are deemed an immediate risk to health and safety until a satisfactory resolution is agreed / implemented. Such circumstances may include life threatening situations or those that could result in loss of limb or other significant lost time injury. The position holder determines the approach to individual work activities and is required to show some initiative to improve operations. Allocation or work, instructions and directions are given by the Community Transport Service Coordinator. The position holder will be required to work in a team environment. Consultation is required with the Coordinator when dealing with difficult or unusual work situations. All hazards, accidents, injuries or incidents that impact on maintaining a safe work place must be reported to the Coordinator. 8. ESSENTIAL AND DESIRABLE CRITERIA Essential Criteria Licence Class LR or greater and demonstrated ability to drive a seater bus (with attached box-trailer) with a demonstrated good driving record. Current Working With Children Check. Understanding, empathy and demonstrated experience in dealing with frail older people, people with disabilities, children, youth and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Good communication skills, patient, flexibility and reliability. Demonstrated understanding of vehicle care and maintenance. Demonstrated practical problem solving and time management skills with an ability to balance competing work priorities and work calmly and effectively within a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate an appropriate level of literacy and numeracy with the ability to provide high levels of accuracy and attention to detail when preparing statistics and other administrative duties. Current First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain one. Demonstrate a commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Work Health & Safety (WHS) and Cultural Diversity principles.
