1 No. 7 Job Description/Questionnaire EMPLOYER: No. 7 JOB TITLE: Computer/Network Technician REPORTS TO: IS Supervisor/Director JOB TITLE/ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION The Computer/Network Technician position is responsible for a smoothly operating network environment. The Technician will install, implement, maintain, and operate hardware and software for District wide use; performs a variety of support functions from the outstanding task lists; coordinate with outside building and computer consultants; provide overall support to staff including phone support and onsite repair at all District locations. EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL PREPARATION High school diploma or GED certificate. A degree in computer science, or extensive experience with personal computers and Apple products, and working knowledge of the network systems preferred. Must be able to cooperatively work with staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES a. Implement, operate, maintain, and provide support for networked and stand-alone computers; monitor system and software performance. b. Maintain hardware and software inventory, checkout system, and provide for the security of copyright materials. c. Provide and maintain written documentation necessary for staff and other personnel, which includes passwords, hardware and software configurations, and equipment logs. d. Provide technical support to staff in the use of computers and software. e. Prepare utility programs for networked stations and individual computers. f. 2 g. Assist with computer lab equipment and software maintenance. h. Select and provide proper network procedures. i. Provide assistance in the evaluation of new software and hardware purchases. j. Assist staff in the use of new software, equipment, and procedures. k. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or director. OTHER DUTIES a. Monitor and make recommendations to maintain wide area network performance. b. Assure data backups are run and data is saved off at appropriate times as well as offsite backups are current. c. Technology and Network Certifications maintained and appropriate. d. Monitor support request and assist in scheduling work within sites. e. Maintain Network security to meet CIPA and protect from viruses. f. Up keep of security camera system district wide. PHYSICAL DEMANDS ENDURANCE-OVERALL STRENGTH: Medium Work Work exerts force and/or lifts or carries objects weighing 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and/or greater than negligible amounts up to 10 pounds constantly. STANDING: Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) Remain on feet in an upright position at a work station; may move about to different computer stations. WALKING: Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) Move about on foot. HANDLING: Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with the hand or hands (fingering not involved). ROTATION: Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) Twist and turn the spine or a ball and socket joint such as the shoulder or hip. TALKING: Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. HEARING: Constantly (2/3 or more of the time) Perceive the nature of sounds by the ear. SEEING: Constantly (2/3 or more of the time) Obtain impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, color, or other characteristics of objects. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS LOCATION: Both Inside and Outside Work location can vary depending on assignment. Time spent inside has protection from weather, but not necessarily from temperature changes and time spent outside has no effective protection from weather. TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS: Periodic - Does not occur on every shift Endure variations in temperature that are sufficiently marked and abrupt to cause noticeable bodily reactions. MATHEMATICAL: Basic Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the four operations with common and like decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs. Perform arithmetic operations involving monetary units. RELATIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS PEOPLE: Taking Instructions-Helping Attend to work assignment, instructions, or orders of supervisor; work cooperatively with staff.
