1 SMALL HEATH LEADERSHIP ACADEMY Nurturing Today s Young People, Inspiring Tomorrow s Leaders JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Vice Principal Standards and Performance Reports to: Principal Scale: L23 L27 Staff Responsibility for: As assigned Salary: 67,652-74,615 Additional: - Term: Permanent Full Time Job Purpose Summary: To contribute to the development of a strong and effective Academy with an emphasis on promoting a culture of educational excellence, within a caring and secure environment enriched with the values of discipline, mutual care and respect which extends beyond the Academy into the wider community. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 1. Overall Strategic Responsibilities a. Work in partnership with the Principal, Senior Leadership Team, Governing Body, staff, students, parents and the Local Authority in generating the ethos and values which underpin the Academy enriched by mutual care and respect extending into the local community. b. Support the maintenance and enhancement of the Academy s ethos and mission through own outstanding professional conduct & high expectations of others. c. Provide outstanding strategic and operational leadership of all areas of responsibility. d. Develop and implement an effective strategy for all areas of responsibility in collaboration with other members of the Senior Leadership Team. e. Devise and implement a development plan for all areas of responsibility with clear annual targets agreed with all members of the Senior Leadership Team. f. Performance manage all staff with respect to all areas of responsibility for students; through regular meetings, setting of appropriate targets for performance, providing support and challenge and undertaking regular reviews for feedback. g. Develop systems and structures for the effective management and administration of all areas of responsibility. 2. Curriculum Development a. Lead the development and management of the overall curriculum of the Academy, in line with TET curriculum model and policy. b. Strategic overview of the timetabling of the curriculum. c. Manage the provision of Options information for students entering KS4 and KS5. d. Strategic overview of the enrichment and extra curriculum programme. Page 1 of 5

2 3. Evaluation and Review a. Lead the analysis of academic performance in the Academy using a range of data. b. Lead the completion and regular submission of the self-evaluation form. c. Provide the lead liaison with the Tauheedul Quality Assurer. d. Lead the Academy s preparation for external inspection, such as Ofsted. e. Lead the accurate completion of the Academy Profile. 4. Intervention and Attainment a. Develop and lead the Academy s intervention strategy to sustain the highest levels of attainment and achievement across all curriculum areas. b. Use accurate and timely data from a range of source to identify students for intervention and develop strategies to enhance their performance. c. Lead the target-setting process across the Academy. d. Manage the Data and Performance Team in the development, management and delivery of data required by the Academy for external and internal use and enhance the use of data to deliver sustained levels of high attainment. e. Chair assessment, reporting and recording meetings. f. Support the training and development of staff in the use of SIMS modules. g. Focus on whole Academy improvement by ensuring the development of effective Assessment for Learning (AfL). h. Provide support for staff to ensure effective use of tracking systems, including individual coaching as required and the organisation and delivery of INSET. i. Take responsibility for tracking student progress and raising attainment including identification of underachievement and ensuring that it is addressed. j. Take responsibility for accelerating progress in terms of student attainment - working with specific departments and cohorts of students as identified. k. Organise half-termly performance management meetings with each subject area. l. Take responsibility for leadership of the Intervention Team and a strategic approach to supporting under-performing students. m. Develop and update regularly a provision map to ensure effective recording and tracking of investment in attainment and intervention, and its evaluation. n. Take responsibility for the strategic leadership of ICT including the Virtual Learning Environment. o. Ensure that the electronic reporting system is kept up to date and that student, subject and teaching information is regularly checked and updated as required. p. Oversee the publication, collation and preparation of half-termly report cards, ready for distribution to parents. q. Oversee the organisation and delivery of half-termly performance review meetings with students and parents. r. Establish and manage the delivery of an assessment and reporting calendar with key dates for entries, internal and external exams, and reporting arrangements. 5. Subject Leadership a. Provide line management for a number of subject Team Leaders, supporting and challenging them to achieve all targets. b. Audit all curriculum areas in the designated areas to ensure statutory compliance, proficient standards of provision, excellent behaviour and safety, the highest levels of attainment and effective systems and structures. c. Support subject Team Leaders to enhance assessment for learning and develop more effective curricula in each of the faculties. 6. Leadership of a Year Group(s) Page 2 of 5

3 For a designated year group: a. Provide ongoing academic and pastoral support to the Pastoral Leader. b. Undertake Performance Review meetings with parents of learners at risk of failing to achieve in GCSE English and Maths. c. Develop and lead implementation of strategies to support academic achievement and personal development of all learners. d. Strategic overview of the implementation of the Catch Up premium. e. Provide strategic oversight for the Sixth Form. 7. Relationship with Others a. Participate in the Performance Management Cycle and INSETs. b. Participate in the induction of new staff into the Academy community. c. Participate in the recruitment and selection of teaching and non-teaching staff. d. Maintain good working relationships with colleagues, students, parents/carers, governors, the community, Trust and Local Authority and ensure all communication is consistent with the Academy s ethos. 8. Other Responsibilities a. Lead on the promotion, dissemination, implementation and monitoring of all whole-academy strategies. b. Provide leadership of the communication of staff briefing notes on a weekly basis. c. Promote the Trust s vision of nurturing today s young people, inspiring tomorrow s leaders. d. Champion the Trust s values of Service, Teamwork, Ambition and Respect. e. Contribute to the wider life of the Academy and its community through out of hours and partnership work. f. Support the work of colleagues within the Senior Leadership Team through the strategic leadership of key processes within Academy. g. Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young people in Academy. h. Carry out any such duties as may be reasonably required by the Principal. Page 3 of 5
