1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Trainer EMPLOYEE DEPARTMENT REPORTS TO APPROVED BY Education & Training Program Leader - Hairdressing & Beauty Chief Executive Officer Sue Geals DATE 11 th January 2016 POSITION OBJECTIVE To assist students to achieve their personal learning and career goals through the development and delivery of high quality accredited training. All training provided must be fully compliant within the legal and regulatory requirements for vocational training and CCG policies and procedures. Achievement of the position objective will be reviewed against the following key performance indicators in the annual appraisal and review process and as required. Detailed roles and responsibilities for each of the KPI s are listed below and will form part of the KPI review process. 1. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Delivering Training and Assessment To deliver training to students in accredited courses that either meet, or exceed all regulatory and quality requirements for Vocational Education and Training (VET) including; All training material and plans that have been approved in accordance with CCG policies and procedures prior to delivery; Meet the prescribed unit selection and assessment requirements for accredited training as determined by the relevant Training Package; Provide relevant, professional information that meets the training objectives of the students; Training, monitoring and supporting students in a diverse range of environments including class, workplace, apprenticeship and traineeship to successfully complete all course requirements; Verifying that all students have undertaken an individual pre-training review prior to commencement of training and implement the action plan to support each individual student s learning needs; Ensure all Training and Assessment (TAS) documents including assessment tools and evidence of participation are collected, documented and submitted in accordance with the CCG policies and procedures; Participate in and support the development of materials required for training in accredited programs. Meeting Professional Standards and Development Complete the online CCG Trainer induction program in full, prior to delivering any training or teaching; Undertaking ongoing, self-directed, professional development in both industry specialisation and VET to ensure that training, skills and knowledge are continuously updated and reflect current industry standards and practices as per the requirements of the Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF) and National Training Standards; Attend and participate in CCG staff training days as required; Maintain a professional standard of conduct, reliability and communication at all times in accordance with the CCG Staff Code of Conduct and other relevant Policies and Procedures. 2 Organisational Functions Actively support the mission, vision and values of CCG in the performance of all roles and functions; Ensure that all actions support the good reputation of CCG and assist to build a positive perception of CCG with all stakeholders including students, community groups, employers and visitors; Actively participate in and support CCG corporate functions including; o Occupational Health and safety o Strategic Planning and building new business o Disability and Discrimination Action Planning o Providing excellence in customer service 2. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES General Requirements for all Training and Assessment Assist each student to reach his/her personal and career goals through individual encouragement and high quality training methods; In consultation with the Program Leader, plan for the delivery of all units and sessions as per the approved delivery plan for the course; Ensure all delivery methods are engaging for a diverse range of learning styles and reflect contemporary adult learning approaches including digital and social media; Create and facilitate opportunities for students to develop digital literacy to meet current industry practices; Create and facilitate opportunities for students to participate in work placements and real industry experiences as an integral component of their training including; o Identifying and negotiating with relevant businesses and employers to arrange work placements; o Conducting workplace visits to observe and assess student competence; o Maintain ongoing communication with employers and placement providers on all issues relating to student performance. Scheduling and booking all required rooms, venues, vehicles and equipment for each session; Immediately advising the Program Leader of any concerns or issues related to the students, selection of units, employers or placement, documentation or any other mater that may affect the quality of the outcomes achieved or compliance with the CCG Training Contract; Documenting all internal and external communication in accordance with CCG policies and procedures. Specific Requirements for Training and Assessment Provide relevant, professional information that meets the training objectives of the students; Train, monitor and support students in a diverse range of environments including class, workplace, apprenticeships and traineeships to successfully complete all course requirements; Use all required and approved TAS documentation relevant to the training; Verify that all students have undertaken an individual pre-training review prior to commencement of training and implement the action plan to support each individual student s learning needs; Complete a Training Plan for each student before the commencement of training; Ensure all training material and plans have been approved in accordance with CCG policies and procedures prior to delivery and meet the prescribed unit selection and assessment requirements for accredited training as determined by the relevant Training Package; Prepare, and distribute hard copy and digital assessment tools, handouts and resources to students in accordance with the approved Unit Delivery Plan; Ensure the delivery of training and assessment is appropriate and engaging for the students; Ensure all Training and Assessment (TAS) documents including assessment tools and participation evidence are collected, documented and submitted in accordance with the CCG policies and procedures; Position Description Trainer 2016 P a g e 2

3 Complete the student attendance roll located in Axcelerate at the conclusion of each class or according to ATTP procedures for Trainees and Apprentices; Assess learners against the relevant units of competency and determine the attainment of competence in accordance with the relevant Training Package requirements and CCG policies and procedures; Submit fully completed Student Assessment Guides for each student to the Program Leaders on completion of the unit as per the Training and Assessment Policy and Procedures and the Trainers and Assessors Handbook timelines; Ensure all students and employers of ATTP students complete the Quality Indicators Online Survey located in SharePoint before the completion of their course. Course Development Participate in the development of training and assessment materials for current and future courses including; o Researching, writing and validating assessment tools and training resources including Moodle and digital resources or platforms; o Maintain ongoing positive communication with industry on training needs and industry requirements; o Attendance at staff meetings and validation/moderation workshops. Maintain a working knowledge of compliance and quality requirements for VET training including; o Attendance at professional development sessions to ensure a detailed understanding of the assessment and training requirements and quality compliance related to each course; o Reading and applying changes to contracts and regulatory requirements; o Maintaining ongoing communication with colleagues in relation to standards required for course materials. Professional Standards Ensure that all qualification(s) held are relevant and appropriate for the area in which industry specialisation training is delivered; Maintain ongoing work and professional experience in the relevant area of specialisation to ensure skills and knowledge reflect current industry practices; Maintain a current Training and Assessment qualification approved for the delivery of VET training; Undertake a minimum of 6 professional development activities per calendar year with 3 related to industry and 3 related to VET skills and knowledge; Collect and submit evidence of participation for all professional development activities; Prepare and submit a current, signed resume and qualification matrix including evidence of professional development by the 1 st Monday in March of each year of employment and as required when roles or responsibilities of the position are varied; Maintain ongoing communication with other trainers and tutors to build industry knowledge; Liaise with industry personnel and employers to keep current with industry developments; Demonstrate professional standards of presentation, reliability and punctuality including; o Notify the Program Leader of any planned or unplanned absence including sick leave as soon as possible via a verbal communication. A text or message is not deemed to be sufficient communication; o Discuss any proposed changes to classes or appointment schedules with the Program Leader prior to advising any students or implementing the changes; o Maintain a high level of interpersonal communication skills at all times actively demonstrating courtesy, tolerance and professionalism in all interactions. ORGANISATIONAL FUNCTIONS Actively participate in and comply with the Health and Safety systems, policies and emergency procedures in place throughout the organisation including; o Promptly and accurately reporting all hazards, accidents, incidents and near misses; o Ensuring the safe use and maintenance of appropriate equipment including PPE for self and students; o Maintaining a current knowledge of emergency evacuations procedures for all relevant campuses and participating positively in drills and training sessions; o Make recommendations for improvements in health and safety. Participate positively in marketing and business development opportunities and events; Be aware of and participate in strategic planning process including making suggestions through the Program Leader for improvements or new business opportunities; Actively work with colleagues to build positive relationships and team work across all departments of CCG; Ensure that all information related to the operations, stakeholders, staff, students, business or any other related activity is maintained as confidential and may not be disclosed to any third party without the express written permission of the CEO. A breach of confidentiality is a serious misdemeanour and will be addressed through the CCG performance Management Policy and Procedure. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Essential Qualifications: Industry qualifications in accordance with AQTF; TAE40110 Certificate IV Training and Assessment; Current Victorian Drivers Licence. Essential Experience: A minimum of five years practical industry experience in the area of specialisation is desirable; Understanding and knowledge of the VET sector.
