2 Role Summary: The post holder will be based within Cancer Services and be responsible for reporting cancer pathology, treatment and outcome data to the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS). Knowledge of statistical analysis and data manipulation are necessary, in addition to an extensive understanding of medical terminology and of the NHS Cancer Standards and Targets. Collecting and collating information about patients is a key element of the post and the Data Entry Clerk has a pivotal role in the success and further development of the department. The post holder will be responsible for submitting all confirmed cancers diagnosed within this Trust to the NCRAS. The post holder will be responsible for data collection for a range of tumour sites and they will develop links and strengthen working relationships with the departments where patient treatment is imitated. The post holder may also be involved in audit work. Although line management supervision will be available, the post holder will be expected to plan and prioritise their own workload on a day-to-day basis. The post will work with the Trust s other s and MDT co-ordinators to ensure consistency of approach and ongoing development of data collection systems in conjunction with the Trust s Information, Management and Technology Department and Service Development Unit.

3 Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Registration of Cases to the National Cancer Registration Service (NCRS) Accurate identification and coding of pathology reports for the registration of all newly diagnosed cancers. Reporting information to the NCRAS and dealing with any queries that may arise. Extraction of clinical details from patient s electronic notes following a Standard Operational procedure, for all newly diagnosed cancer patients treated at the Trust. Input of data collected into databases. Providing information on treatment and outcome to the NCRAS including new, recurrent and progressive cancers. Identify clinically diagnosed cancers from the outcome lists provided by the Multi-Disciplinary Team Co-ordinators Maintain all relevant databases. To develop and maintain data collection systems and processes to support the production of relevant data. Accurate input of data collected into relevant database/systems required for reporting to senior management and external bodies. Generic Duties Liaison with departments responsible for cancer patient, both surgical and medical, to ensure all data is quality assured and fully completed. Extracting data as required supporting report production and decision making. Responsibility for patient notes using manual and electronic tracking systems. To work as part of a team. Any other duties as delegated by the Lead Cancer Manager or MDT Manager Provide cross functional cover and annual leave cover for others as required within the department. Skills, Knowledge & Attributes: This post will require extensive knowledge of Trust systems. Full training on these and the Directorate s data collection systems will be provided where appropriate. The Cancer Services/Haematology Directorate has a growing and developing workload. The growth of the Directorate may require alterations within this job description, in consultation with the post-holder, to meet the changing needs of the service. Further Information Our Purpose:
