1 UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE Careers and Employment Service Team Leader - Employer Grade: UH8 RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Head RESPONSIBLE FOR: Team of employer liaison staff PURPOSE To manage members of the Careers and Employment Service, which is responsible for careers education, guidance, information and advice, enterprise and employer liaison. To take specific responsibility for managing a team of employer facing staff. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the team in delivering the employer related strategy of developing and supporting employer relationships with local, national and international organisations Identify and develop strategic business relationships to maximise degree apprenticeships, work experience, placement and graduate opportunities for UH students. Support the development of collaborative working with all stakeholders including businesses, public bodies, third sector, community organisations, LEPs (local enterprise partnerships), corporate and SME organisations. Attend local and national external events to promote UH and source new organisations to engage with. Will include networking and presenting to a wide range of relevant bodies, institutions and organisations both local and national. Oversee the delivery of employer related events, including general and school specific careers fairs and a wide range of employer focused activities. Contribute to a School Engagement Team, building relationships with key academic staff, in order to promote service activities in particular those involving employers. Work closely with the Business Development team over the promotion of degree apprenticeships and wider employer engagement. Manage and motivate the team by the use of appraisals, action plans, team and individual meetings.
2 Take the lead in CE for the communication/promotion of degree apprenticeships, work experience, placement and graduate events and services, working with other UH internal departments. Work with other Team Leaders in managing the provision of a dedicated and professional customer facing service to UH students, ensuring robust systems and processes are in place. Contribute to the planning and development of service provision and assist with the communication/promotion of career development and graduate employment products, services and events. Identify good practice and trends in placement, graduate employment, enterprise and degree apprenticeships to ensure that the University benefits from best practice, including productive engagement with recognised professional associations Lead and manage on special projects and events as appropriate. Promote and implement collaborative working within the department and with partners across UH to ensure client centred processes and services. Effectively manage the devolved careers budget for special projects when appropriate To be willing and able to deputise for the Assistant Heads in their absence Ensure the development of professional interests associated with the needs of UH including maintaining a good understanding of relevant HE sector, national and international developments and the work of relevant external reference points. SUPERVISION RECEIVED The post holder reports to the Assistant Head but will operate with a substantial degree of autonomy to develop effective team working within their designated team. SUPERVISION GIVEN The post holder manages the designated members of the CE team which can change from time to time but will be predominately those involved in employer facing activity. RESPONSIBILITIES FOR BUDGETS
3 The post holder will manage appropriately some/all of the devolved budget for the Employer Team, and advise on costs and budget requirements for student/graduate employer related and events. CONTACTS Employers Alumni University guests, external clients and visitors External and internal quality assessment panels University staff and students International, national, professional and regional bodies relevant to the University s work Professional bodies such as the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, Associate of Graduate Recruiters, Placenet and ASET Staff and students in University partner organisations Other careers guidance and graduate employability and employment services Suppliers and Contractors TRAVELLING/WORKING HOURS Travel to other University campuses and regular visits to employers and other organisations will be required in connection with the above duties and to attend meetings and training sessions. Attendance at networking events, external courses and conferences will also be required and you will be expected to be professionally presented. The Careers and Employment Service offers some services outside of standard office hours, therefore there will be a requirement for occasional early morning/evening/weekend work. A restriction on annual leave may be in operation for busy operational periods during the year.
