1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Schools Coordinator - Educational Achievement Reports to: Line Management: Head of Services and Development SHS Practitioners Base: SHS Head Office (with travel) Liaison: Contract: Organisation wide Permanent Annual Salary: 30,000-32,000 Benefits: 28 days annual leave (Leave not to be taken during term time and in the first and last week of the school summer break), pension, life assurance, employee assistance programme Context of Work School-Home Support (SHS) is a charity working with children and families to maximise educational opportunities and improve life chances. SHS partners with schools, local authorities and families to look beyond the classroom to understand and tackle the issues affecting children s learning. SHS practitioners intervene at the earliest opportunity to to break intergenerational cycles of low aspirations, academic failure and worklessness, replacing them with children in school ready to learn. Job Purpose The post will have a specialism element on Educational Achievement and will share that expertise organisation wide. They will develop learning programmes for specified target groups, using appropriate methods to promote Educational Achievement.They will represent SHS at national and specific external meetings and conferences. The post holder will negotiate and manage contracts with schools regarding service provision. They also provide line management and supervision to practitioners assigned to schools and projects that have contracted SHS to provide a child-centred service that is consistent with the need for supportive interventions the prevent escalation. Level of contact with children and young people and vulnerable adults The post holder will have occasional contact with children or young people and vulnerable adults Working contacts Internal Chief executive, management and core team, practitioners, trustees and colleagues throughout the organisation to share tasks and information and develop new initiatives.

2 External Headteachers; Executive Principals, School Governors, Link managers in schools/projects, teachers, researchers, funders and other professionals. Professional contacts, including: health and social care practitioners and other professionals from statutory and voluntary organisations. Tasks and Responsibilities The areas of responsibility fall into three main areas: 1. Educational Achievement specialism Develop tools and processes to identify individual learning needs and approaches to meet them. Support practitioners to identify family learning needs within their area of delivery. Develop and embed across the organisation methods to encourage parents /carers participation in family learning activities. Develop tool kits and resources that promote family learning and parental engagement in learning. Support practitioners to organise and promote a programme of events to promote family learning, liaising with appropriate individuals and organisations. Monitor and evaluate the impact of family learning programmes, providing regular reports to the SHS management team and trustees. Keep abreast of developments within family learning and educational achievement. Provide training to staff on family learning initiatives and delivery. Identify opportunities for marketing campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in awareness of SHS services to support educational achievement. Supporting Families To support and contribute to the management of family support services and contribute to the safeguarding procedures and guidance for the organisation. To act as a source of support, advice and expertise on matters of family support and share information and advice on working with relevant family support agencies. To contribute to service development, including the responsibility of the development and delivery of staff family support and parenting training and ensuring that all staff are appropriately trained. Contribute to and support the embedding across the organisation safe working practices to ensure that all children and young people SHS work with are protected from harm. Contribute to the development of toolkits and resources that promote parenting. Contribute to monthly newsletters and respond to forum queries and comments. Monitor and evaluate the impact of work delivered to families with parenting issues providing regular reports to the SHS management team and trustees. Keep abreast of developments within family support and parenting. Continually improve retention, present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.

3 Identify opportunities for marketing campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in awareness of SHS services to support family support. 3. Corporate and Business Development responsibilities Sustain existing and develop new business for SHS by r aising the profile of SHS and by identifying; engaging and building relationships with new clients. Promote all SHS services and build effective relationships with actual and potential stakeholders from the statutory and voluntary sectors. Keep abreast of national initiatives and business opportunities. Contribute to the business development strategy to support the organisations business plan. Support the development of good practise that will support SHS to become a recognised outstanding organisation To be committed to the aims and values of the organisation. To ensure that safeguarding processes and policy are adhered to and be committed to keeping safeguarding knowledge up to date. Liaise with others and participate in internal and cross-organisation working groups for training and exchange of information and best practise. Attend team and other meetings deemed to be appropriate. 4. Supporting Practitioners Ensuring provision of a consistently high quality outcome based service that benefits children and young people, their families/carers and schools by managing the performance of practitioners through effective line management, learning and development and other operational support. Ensure the work is meeting school/project priorities and targets as set out in the partnership agreement. Liaise closely with practitioners and school/project head teachers and link managers. Carrying out regular reviews of work priorities and manage the renegotiation of the annual agreement. Undertake regular supervision and line management sessions with the practitioner at their place of work ensuring that all supervision recording processes are completed and that children s safety is prioritised. Ensure that workloads are effectively allocated, managed and reviewed and that the practitioner is able to manage their workload. Ensure that regular monitoring and evaluation takes place and manage the completion of outcome reports for schools. Undertaking all management duties including induction, recruitment, appraisals, performance management and delivering training. 5. Other responsibilities To take on additional responsibilities commensurate to the role as and when required. On occasions where meetings or events take place in the evening or on a weekend, time off in lieu (TOIL) can be applied for and agreed when the needs of the organisation have been met. To conform and apply all SHS policies, including: Safeguarding; Health and Safety Policy and the Equal Opportunities Policy. To be committed to developing professional knowledge and management practices through continuing professional development, making good use of training opportunities provided.

4 Person Specification for Schools Coordinator - Educational Achievement Essential/ Desirable Qualifications/Knowledge 1. Knowledge and understanding of how schools, academies and multi academy trusts operate 2. Knowledge and understanding of the national Early Help agenda and Working Together to Safeguard Children Knowledge of the National Curriculum and assessments at all stages Experience 4. Significant experience of managing and supporting staff working with children and families, within the family home and community settings 5. Experience of managing client/stakeholder relationships and contract negotiation 6. Experience of sustaining and developing business 7. Multi agency working experience and knowledge 8. The ability to be self-servicing - IT skills and experience of Google; using databases and analysing data 9. Experience of managing and developing family learning activities and projects Skills and Abilities 10. Proven ability to manage complex relationships with other professionals 11. Managing the delivery of services under contract compliance 12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to liaise confidently at all levels 13. Flexibility and ability to work on own initiative and under pressure 14. Proven organisational skills and ability to identify and manage priorities within the workload 15.
