1 National Programs Maximum Term 1 year, Full time Title: National Programs Team: Health Outcomes Position type: 1 year maximum term, full time Reports to: General, Health Outcomes Company: National Company Hours per week: 37.5hours Grade: 10 Location: Melbourne Effective date: November 2015 ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT The National Division, led by its CEO Mary Barry has Corporate Services, Health Outcomes, Advocacy, and Brand & Revenue teams, all of which are supported by the functions of Media Team. The National Health Outcomes team supports the achievement of the goals and objectives of the national For All Hearts Strategy This includes improving access to a healthier food supply, active living, early recognition and detection of heart attack, improved access, and better management of heart disease. There is also a strong focus on addressing health inequity amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, those who are culturally and linguistically diverse and those from low socio economic backgrounds across Australia. The position of National Programs sits within the Health Outcomes team (see organisation chart, attached). The role is a new role which has been established to consolidate the programs of walking, local government awards, National Aboriginal Health Unit and Equity. The position works closely with the National, Data & Evaluation, General Advocacy, National Media and a range of honorary committees that provide advice and direction to the work of the Heart Foundation. Some interstate travel is required. Position Purpose: To provide strategic direction and manage the delivery of health programs for the National company. Page 1 of 6

2 Key Accountabilities Accountabilities Major Activities Outcomes Provide strategic direction and advice for the National programs Work with the National, Health Policy to identify health policy and project work that may develop into program work To achieve the goals of the Heart Foundation strategy and the performance indicators of the annual business plan Work with the Data & Evaluation team to design program evaluation Provide advice to internal advisory committees on Heart Foundation activities and direction Work with honorary committees to develop annual priorities and scope of policy work Work with National Media and General, Advocacy to respond to media items, government questions and requests, and submissions Identify, pursue and maintain key partnerships to assist the delivery of research, evidence reviews and policies Support the General, Health Outcomes in managing the honorary committees Provide operational leadership to deliver the National programs Prepare annual project plan with project deliverables and timelines Facilitate a project management approach to delivery of policy work To achieve the goals of the Heart Foundation strategy and the performance indicators of the annual business plan To ensure efficient and effective use of resources Prepare annual budgets and monitor expenditure To meet contractual and sponsorship obligations Manage the delivery of the project plan within budget, time and scope Prepare agendas and papers for internal committees Page 2 of 6

3 Manage the programs team Build capability and capacity in people to deliver high quality program work, efficiently and effectively To ensure a high quality and high performing team Work with policy team to develop individual performance plans and provide feedback on meeting plan objectives Develop a culture of performance and accountability Ensure compliance with Heart Foundation policies and procedures CHALLENGES: Working across the National and Divisional (State) companies that make up the Heart Foundation to align national and state programs Managing organisational expectations and prioritising areas of program work that align with the organisation s purpose and strategic plan Securing external funding and managing relationships with funding bodies to support national programs such as Walking COMMUNICATIONS Internally: Health Outcomes Unit to integrate work between the teams particularly the development of policy into areas of program work and the regular evaluation of program performance National Brand and Communications to provide key messages that help promote Heart Foundation programs and feed into the development of marketing collateral for a range of audiences National Advocacy to provide policy platforms and briefings for meetings with relevant Federal ministers, government agencies and industry bodies and to understand the government health agenda and priorities National Media to provide key message that promote Heart Foundation programs and support media campaigns, releases and responses Cardiovascular Health Directors in the Divisions to promote national programs and align and leverage national and state activities Honoraries to engage their expertise in the design and delivery of Heart Foundation programs Externally: Key opinion leaders and health professional bodies to gain input into the design and ongoing development of Heart Foundation programs Consumers to determine their needs and ensure Heart Foundation programs meet them Page 3 of 6
