1 Reporting Relationships Responsible to: Responsible for: Head of School Learning Support Learning Support Co-ordinators Job Purpose The main purpose of the role is to manage the Learning Support Service across all departments and ensure from the initial enquiry stage that all applications and students are assessed, supported and reviewed to enable them to achieve their main learning aim. The role also carries holistic responsibility for management of the learning support team, which includes daily operational issues and quality assurance. The role will require the post-holder to be responsible for working with the MIS team and finance teams to ensure accurate data management for funding and learner information. Duties and Responsibilities To effectively timetable all Learning Support Assistants across the service for in-class support. To line manage and supervise the Learning Support Co-ordinators/Learning Support Tutors ensuring they are effectively deployed and working to set deadlines. To advise departments/course teams on the appropriate support for individual learner needs. To provide training to all Staff across the College in relation to learning support matters and to work effectively with students and course staff. To provide training to course teams and other support departments as appropriate with regards to Learning Support and Learning Difficulties/Disabilities. To market and promote Learning Support across College and within the Community. To liaise with parents, carers and staff from relevant agencies regarding supported learners and their requirements. To be responsible for the management administration and recording of ALS funding within the Learning Support Team and liaise with MIS, finance and IT departments to ensure all systems are informed and updated enabling accurate data collection for the service.
2 To research adaptive techniques and source equipment to meet the needs of students with disabilities. To carry out observations for Learning Support Staff in accordance with the College policies and processes and advise staff on quality and staff developments required in relation to the service. To liaise with boroughs regarding High Needs funding for learners to include agreeing costings for individual learners, invoicing and ensuring all paperwork / evidence required is provided by set deadlines. Ensure paperwork trail and evidence are in place for audit purposes. To ensure knowledge of current legislation is up-to-date and advice staff as necessary. Assist as required during college marketing events and enrolment periods. General Work flexibly and efficiently to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the Corporation. Comply with any rules and regulations which the College may, from time to time, issue to ensure the efficient operation of its business and the welfare and interest of its employees and students. Undertake such duties and/or hours as may reasonably be required, commensurate with this post and general level of responsibility, at your main place of work or at any other establishment for which the College provides services. To participate fully in departmental activities including staff training and any appraisal or review scheme that may be in place. NB. Data Protection Computer information should only be accessed if this has been authorised and is necessary as part of the post holder s work. Unauthorised action being taken, in accordance with the College s disciplinary procedure, may lead to dismissal. The post holder s attention is also drawn to the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Computer Misuse Act Safeguarding The College is committed to the safeguarding of all its learners, staff and visitors and provides a safe physical environment. The College ensures safeguarding legislation and guidance are adhered to and considered when developing and revising policies and procedures. The College has policies and procedures in place to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues as well as recording and monitoring processes. It is a condition of employment that all staff are trained to an appropriate level to their safeguarding responsibilities.

5 Conditions of Service Contract: Annual Leave: Hours of Employment: Salary: Probationary Period: Location: Smoking: Termination: Medical Report: DBS Check: References: Appointment subject to: Pension: Representation: Car Allowances: Additional Employment: Permanent Full time leave entitlement is 24 days per annum (adjusted accordingly for part time roles). Standard public holidays are in addition to this. The leave year runs from 1 st September to 31 st August. 36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. 37,259-39,412 per annum depending on experience and qualifications. Salaries are paid monthly on the last working day of the month. You will be required to have an account with a bank or building society, which can accept a direct credit transfer. 6 months. Staff are required to work on any site as required. A No Smoking Policy is in operation throughout the College. 1 month s written notice on either side. Upon appointment, you will be required to complete a Medical Questionnaire and may be required to undergo a medical examination. An enhanced DBS check is required for all posts within the College before you start work. The appointment is subject to two references, which are satisfactory to us. The conditions of service for Support Staff as recommended by the College s Employer s Forum as adopted by the College s Governing Body. A pension scheme is in operation through the Local Government Pension Scheme, but persons appointed may make their own arrangements. The contribution rate for the LGPS is variable between 5.5% and 7.5% of your Gross salary, dependent on your earnings, deducted on a monthly basis. The College recognises UNISON as the appropriate Trade Union for raising matters of staff concern. A staff travel and subsistence policy is in operation at the College and staff travelling between sites and on College business can claim a mileage rate for using their car. The College does not operate a car loan scheme. Staff are not allowed to engage as an employee, consultant, partner, proprietor or director in any other business without the prior written consent of the Principal.
