1 Job Advertisement - Facility Maintenance Technician The City of Whitefish, Montana is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician for the Parks and Recreation Department. This position performs a variety of unskilled, semiskilled, and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings and facilities, primarily the City Hall and Parking Structure. This full-time position requires: 1. High School diploma or GED Equivalent 2. Three years experience in repair and maintenance work 3. Three years experience in building maintenance, (interior and exterior) 4. Considerable knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and park facilities maintenance, or 5. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience Starting salary: $15.89 per hour plus an excellent benefits package. 2 CITY OF WHITEFISH An Equal Opportunity Employer POSITION DESCRIPTION Class Title: Facility Maintenance Technician Range: 12 Department: Parks and Recreation FLSA Status: Non-Exempt GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs a variety of unskilled, semiskilled, and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings and facilities, primarily the City Hall and Parking Structure. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Building Maintenance Foreman SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates numerous types of equipment such as self-propelled sweepers, snowplows, bobcats. Maintains and operates building HVAC systems including boilers, air conditioning units, fire control systems, etc. Removes or coordinates the removal of snow after each snow event in the Parking Structure and sidewalks surrounding City Hall and the Parking Structure. Performs building and equipment repairs. Moves heavy items in City Hall for staff. May help set up facilities and rooms for meetings and events. Performs all functions of park and building maintenance at a high level of proficiency. In coordination with the City Clerk s office, administers the License Plate Recognition system for the lease parking in the Parking Structure including checking status of vehicles in the leased parking area and writing parking tickets or arranging for the towing of vehicles illegally parked in the leased parking area of the Parking Structure. Proficiently operates all assigned equipment and vehicles to perform any operation within the capacity of the machine as necessary to accomplish required work. Updated: 01/06/17 - slb Page 1 of 4
3 Flexible to be available for emergency call-outs during off time. Picks up litter from around buildings and grounds including clearing cigarette butts from waste containers. Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs janitorial duties as needed. PERIPHERAL DUTIES: Maintenance techniques in the care, construction and operation of City buildings and structures; inspects buildings on a regular basis; conducts an ongoing maintenance program; may participate in general cleaning when other staff are not present; responsible for security and fire systems; point of contact for building related issues; plans and schedules contractor services; maintains emergency systems; assists superintendent in bid procedures and coordinating construction and repairs; ensures compliance with building rules and regulations. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: (1) Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and (2) Three years experience in repair and maintenance work (3) Three years experience in building maintenance, (interior & exterior) or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. (4) Considerable knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and park facilities maintenance. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (1) Must have sufficient experience in the field of building maintenance to have acquired an extensive knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in all phases, including a basic general knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, cement work, and irrigation systems. (2) Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and facility maintenance; (3) Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. (4) Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment. (5) Ability to read and interpret technical materials pertaining to facility maintenance, including catalogs, blue prints on buildings and irrigation systems, journals, and manuals. (6) Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to work efficiently as a team member; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective Updated: 01/06/17 - slb Page 2 of 4
4 working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to obtain a Boiler operator s license/certification as required by Parks and Recreation Director. Must possess a valid State of Montana Driver s License. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Pickup truck; equipment including bobcat with sweeper and snow plow blade, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; snow blowers, miscellaneous hand and power tools, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work; janitorial equipment; computers.
