At any time during your apprenticeship training, you may be required to show this training standard to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (the Ministry). You will be required to disclose the signed Apprenticeship Completion form to the Ministry in order to complete your program. ON-THE-JOB TRAINING: Unit PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (ON-THE-JOB SKILL SETS) 239B-1 239B-2 Safety Verify Dimensions of Tooling Read an interpret blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machinng operation to be performed Verify dimensions of machineed parts or tooling using micrometers, vernier callipers, height gauges, optical comparators or other specialized measuring instruments. Computes angles, radii and other dimensions not given in specifications, using algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Measures angular dimesnsions, radii, contours, clearances, thread lead, and other specifications, using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometer, gauge blocks, dial indicators, height gauges, bevel protractor, comparator and co-ordinate measuring machine. 239B-3 Test moving parts and mechanical funtionings Tests units for fit of moving parts and mechanical functioning. Tests parts for hadrdness and flaws. Compares projected silhouette of form of tools, gears and other curved or irregular surfaces with enlarged drawings of parts, using optical comparator, or measures directly using co-ordinate measuring machine. May draw enlarged part details for sue on comparators. Determines accuracy of gauges and measuring instruments and makes adjustments to inaccurate instruments. 239B-4 Analyzes defective Parts Determines salvagability of defective items from knowledge of material costs and machining. Analyses defective parts to determine cause of defect and recommednds correction. Prepares reports listing defects and other inspection data. May inspect first run parts and assemblies. 239B-5 Maintain precission measuring and gauging equipment Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges and other measuring devices Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports.
