1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Reporting to: Department/Team Director of People Chief Operating Officer (COO) People Location Unicef House, 30a Great Sutton Street, London, EC1V 0DU 1 Hours Salary Band/Grade Duration 35 hours per week circa 80,0000 per annum Permanent 1 This role is currently based in Farringdon. From summer 2018, Unicef UK will relocate to Stratford (zone 2). Our new offices will be close to the new Crossrail station and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Stratford is also served by the Jubilee and Central Lines, DLR, London Overground, TFL Rail and National Rail services. 2 Purpose of Post The Director of People is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for developing and driving the implementation of the People & Culture strategy across Unicef UK. The role also provides strategic and operational leadership to the people function (learning and organisational development, talent, reward, recruitment and retention, employee relations and transactional services). The people function is a key a business partner and key enabler within the organisation, providing excellent human resource guidance to accelerate the development and growth of organisational capability and performance in order to achieve Unicef UK s strategic aims and improved outcomes for children. Key Outcome Areas: Leadership within SLT and of People Function Participate fully as a member of the Senior Leadership Team to align people and organisational strategies, as key enablers, which will sustainably deliver measurable outcomes for children through implementation the organisation s cause framework. Lead and develop a highly engaged and high-performing People team, acknowledged for its tangible contribution to organisational success Ensure the People function is recognised and valued as a strategic business partner offering relevant expertise and advice, proactively sharing insights and shaping change to efficiently deliver strategic priorities. Partner with the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer to develop the capability of the entire leadership team. Organisational Culture and Ways of working Working with the COO lead transformative change to design, develop and deliver the strategic enabler capabilities identified in the cause framework. Lead on the design and delivery of a progressive, agile, dynamic workplace experience and environment in time for relocation in summer 2018, acting as Unicef UK Project Director for all related work-streams. Lead the development, launch and embedding of a renewed purpose and values-based culture, which supports integrated ways of working, strengthening team productivity and performance, whilst enhancing a climate of employee engagement and wellbeing. Ensure staff issues are clearly and objectively represented and people s voices are heard at leadership level. Talent and Learning and Reward In partnership with the Executive Team, develop and implement a new talent management strategy aligned to the delivery of organisational priorities with clear principles that are agreed, shared and applied. Work with SLT and the Executive team to identify the skills and knowledge needed to deliver future plans ensuring an outstanding learning and development environment offer for all our people. Develop and implement a new pay and rewards system to attract, recognise and retain talented individuals who are committed to the organisation. General Responsibilities Good Management Build and maintain a highly motivated, high performing and collaborative people team with the appropriate skills to deliver the current and future people needs of the whole organisation.

3 Lead and manage the people team to role model new ways of working are taken forward and ensuring that respective Team Heads and Managers do the same with their own teams. In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer set the annual organisational salary budget and uplifts according to parameters agreed with the Executive team. Plan, budget, monitor and spend wisely the People Team resource and expenditure budget to demonstrate good value Wider Leadership Participate fully as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Working with peers to establish, embed and develop cross-organisational ways of working, standards, culture and systems. Advise coach, and partner peers to develop organisational leadership capability. Participate fully as a member of the Operations and Strategy Senior Management Team Provide leadership in excellent people management practices; facilitating and promoting great leadership and people management within the organisation, enabling people to develop and perform at their best. Lead the Diversity Group to ensure that Unicef UK s policies and practices support the organisations ambitions to realise the benefits of a diverse and inclusive culture. Together with the Chief Operations Officer and Executive Director co-lead transformative change across the organisation and workforce in support of the cause framework and to adapt to changing market demands, technology and new initiatives. Relationships Elevate our People function to provide a truly effective business partnering model, which engages and informs SLT colleagues and stakeholders, to demonstrate leadership excellence in people and culture in the performance of the people function and people thought leadership in the organisation. Build an appropriate external profile within the sector and beyond to allow Unicef UK to be better informed of people and culture developments and to contribute to the advancement in the sector as a whole. People Operations Maintain an overview of all people-related organisational risks and ensure that action is taken to manage, mitigate and minimise these including Health and Safety, Safeguarding and the security of employees whilst working for Unicef UK. Identify and deliver the leadership and management development needs of the whole organisation in the most cost efficient and effective way. Lead the develop reward, recognition and benefits strategies to ensure they our employment offer is aligned to best practice and our organisational strategic objectives Ensure our Facilities team deliver cost effective and future oriented solutions to meet changing organisational needs and develop the workplace of the future. Ensure that colleagues have appropriate support to maximise their contribution, both within and outside their line management structure, to maintain their wellbeing and access high quality learning events Other related duties/projects as agreed with the Chief Operating Officer. Technology & Data Insight Ensure that HR technology supports the delivery of the people and culture plan. Enabling individuals to interact with self-service functionality efficiently and effectively.

4 Define requirements and implement a HR information system that will enable smarter analysis and reporting of KPIs to inform people strategy delivery, with a view to 2019 implementation. In the interim, streamline existing core HR processes, ensuring compliance with GDPR, standardising and automating administrative tasks where possible and producing regular workforce reports. Ensuring meaningful management information is readily provided in order to assist the SLT and Executive team in decision making and planning. Provide regular reports on people related activities and metrics for the Executive Team, the Board of Trustees, Board Sub-Committee, and others as appropriate Coordinate and disseminate regular pulse check activity to assess employee engagement and address emerging themes with SLT colleagues to respond to trends and feedback.
